Sorry Pete/Dad were not there today, wanted to have a chat for next year and steal a few ideas too, maybe Shelsley next weekend.

I don't think you have anything to worry about Rob, but I hate to think what your handicap will be next year!!

PB for me today but still in the bloody 57's.
Your a PB Machine!

Any idea how Rich got on with his new engine?

First in class! (low 61's I think)
He loves the 20g as a turbo, and I fully understand that one. Must admit the car went well and Richard's sounded very crisp too.
Rich' needs some suspension right now.(and real tyres...)

I think I've lost the Leaders Champ class to Jeff unless a miracle happens at Shels.

Good on him!

I have tried big bhp on 1A's and it's no joke, but any tyre improvement sends you mod prod straight away against serious machinery so it's a tough call.

Got this pic in the MAC magazine

You are a member of too many clubs!
Start saving for the funny coloured car for 2008!

It will be mad for us all to build 500/1000Kg cars and more....but is there a choice?

Rich did 61.60
Andrew Meek did 61.83
G Ellis did 65.90

I did a Triangle best today of 22.08, but I'm not sure if that's good or not.(lost my previous best ticket)

Good to see you Graham

Weather was pretty much perfect, dry and sunny, but not too hot, cooler on Sunday and the RA was flying.

I had somewhat of a banzai weekend, with the new TD05 20G giving the RA the grunt the car was lacking at the July meeting.

Saturday - 1st in class for me!
A personal best of 61.77, just managed to keep Andrew's STi behind me - I think his time was 61.87.

Fantastic racing from the Impreza twins, merely 10ths of seconds in it, which made for 1000% concentration off the start line.

Starts/64 feet:
2.17
2.16
2.19
2.36

Triangle:
24.92
24.17
24.22
24.25

Finish Line:
63.09
62.01
61.77
61.78

Strangely the car (me) started to bog down on the start line - I think my launch technique was not as good towards the ent of the day - something to work on.

Sunday - 1st in class (again - yippee) with a personal best of 61.60, which came on the last run of the 2007 season, and just managed to keep Andrew behind me )god, was he on it on the last run, you can't keep these Welsh boys behind you for long!).

Starts/64 feet:
2.28
2.16
2.27
2.34
2.19 - going for it with this one!

Triangle:
25.13
24.16
24.26
24.24

Finish Line:
63.53
61.89
61.89
61.60

Really, really pleased it all worked out on the last run for 2007, could not have asked more from the RA.

Close racing with some great blokes, in sorted cars

I would like to congratulate a new Hagley Member (Gareth Ellis from Welshpool) on his achievement on his first ever competitive motorsport event, he was in a WRX RA and dropped his times from 69 to 65 seconds.

I think he will be a force to reckon with in 2008?

Imprezas did us all proud at the weekend - would be good to see a few more owners having a go.

Yes, a great Impreza weekend.

I found it very hard to launch right with the 20g for ages, but cracked it in the end. You can loose boost very quickly compared to stock turbo.
6000 and dump the clutch will do it!
Garreth was knocked-over by it all, and is a convert to the whole hillclimb thing.

Default Andrew Meek's STi/Castle Coombe interaction with the scenery

This is the link to Andrew's "off" at Castle Coombe in June, I am sure he won't mind me posting on Scoobynet.

Great to see he was ok and back to fighting form. Top Bloke.

Andrew managed to get his STi repaired for the Loton Park weekend, and he said that without the strength of the roll cage cage, his Impreza would have been in much worse shape.

Strong cars when properly prepared.

Sounds like a good weekend of racing all round, well done everyone.

Graham that is a good triangle time, target 21 seconds next, my PB is 21.43 I think the time is to be had in the entry speed to logger heads.

That is a hefty off, I need to give my cage situation some thought over the winter as I'm not convinced it would do a great deal in a smash.

Our cages are pretty good Rob and better than nothing, but would be better welded into the shell with well positioned pick-up points.
Best is the Zen type of course (adds weight).

I struggle to get out of Hall and onto Loggerheads. The turbo can 'just' fall off boost and I have to wait a touch till it's up well down the short straight.

Blue car or white for the weekend?

I spoke to the guy from custom cages who reckons a 6 point CDS bolt in with all the foot plates etc. comes in about 60kgs, whereas a t45 multi point group N weld in comes in around 38kgs. Which is a surprise.

I agree our cages are better than nothing, but you have the straight rear struts and a diagonal whereas mine follow the roof line to allow access to the rear doors putting plenty of bends in the cage and in a high speed impact I'm not sure it would be upto much, as a scrutineer once pointed out.

Blue car is on a boat to japan, I will be in the white car, mission sub 30 for me this weekend, 30.37 is my PB in the white one but I know there is time in it just depends how the conditions treat us and if I can put a good run together across a crazy busy weekend.

The meeting is chock a block solid with cars, so any rain etc will see just 2 practice runs I think.
I'm surpried at the weight, but that steel is very special and thin/strong.

Is the blue one on a one way ticket?

Final Meeting of the season the big one at Shelsley rescheduled from August.

I dual drove with Pete as he has a problem with his car.

I took the class win with a 30.39, not my best but I left time out there, coming in too hot to crossing and having to back off and braking far too ealry into the esses, I tried a bit too hard on shagged back tyres to break the hallowed 30 second barrier and spent most of the weekend very sideways as did Pete. Pete took second with a very impressive 30.82 in his fist competetive outing in my car and Martyn Pike in the mk 2 escort as our class had been merged took 3rd with a very, very impressive 32.13 in a 190bhp car. He was quicker than both Pete and I through the ess sector, 9.03 to my 9.16 a truly great driver/car combo.

So many other things went on but I'm too tired to write them up now.

As usual the car never missed a beat and just kept pulling all weekend, I was a little slower through the traps than ususal but the dead rear tyres might have something to do with that.

Packing the car away for the last time this year was a mixture of relief and dissapointment. It has been a fantastic season and I have achieved things and gone quicker than I ever could have dreamed of just 6 months ago. The development of the car with Zen Performance has been a total success and created one very qucik sorted hillclimb impreza, the quickest round these parts by some margin.

I will do a proper write up on the season soon, but for now I, like my battle scarred car, am tired and just need to do nothing for a while.

Video of my launch from my first run, 1.81 64ft time, the fastest launch of any car all weekend by some margin.
MySpaceTV: Subaru Impreza RA launch @ Shelsley Walsh by rob

My Dad's 4th turbo expired in style before he even reached the start line.

My battle scarred car after a long season, bowing out in style with a Zen powered 1st & 2nd in class

This idiot followed me round all weekend, I couldn't shake him no matter what I tried.

Rob.

You are not allowed booster or any other additional elements off the Periodic Table to enhance performance or attempts to kill-off the opposition!

I should be safe in C2 in 2008 if up-wind...

You sure you didn't do the same in your dad's Quattro as it sure stinks in there.

2007, My first full season of Hillclimbing & Sprinting is now over.

I did 5 races in 2006 in my near standard RA and enjoyed it a lot and decided to make a go of it in 2007. Competing in the Midland hillclimb champ's, Loton Park Champ's and midland sprint champ's.

I only saw out the Loton Park Champ's and the Midland Champ's as despite leading the Midland sprint champ's when I stopped competing in it I found I much preffered the hills and the fact the rounds of the Midland sprint champ's and Midland hill champ's clashed so I could only really compete in one, I chose the hills.

I first took my car to Zen Performance for a remap in late 2006 with my first Shelsley A meet beckoning. I had had my car prepped by a rather **** "tuning" company before that on only a minor scale, who took forever to do anything and when they did made the car seriously underachieve. First thing Paul at Zen said to me is "how much time do you need to find" (bearing in mind my near standard car) "half a second" I replied (which is an eternitiy in hillclimbing). Off we went and Paul got the most from my modest spec and I found my 1/2 second and got a great result in a near standard car on 1B tyres and got everyones attention .

I got the bug for the sport and knew I had to upgrade my car to compete, I contacted Paul again and he offered to support my competition efforts in 2007 with discounted prices and continued support which I obviously jumped at, a budget and engine spec was agreed.

Driving the car pre season it was aparent it was crazy fast compared to anything i had ever driven before, but getting it to the hills it needed some refining to get the most from the power within what I could do as a driver with the car.

Slicks, map tweeks, new suspension, spring rates, porting/polishing, brakes, and many things I don't understand, we covered it all in a very short space of time early season and soon as my knowledge of the hills grew and my driving ability developed, my car was up to speed and ready to compete at the top level of hillclimbing saloons.

I have worn a dip in the roads to Wellingborough across the season for every tweek, repair and upgrade across the year and always on a tight deadline and I always got my car back, not matter what the hour, ready to win if I could just do my bit.

Well, here is a list of my results.

9 class wins.

4 class runner up.

3 class 3rds

2 class records (Loton & MIRA).

Winner Class 2, Loton Park championship.

Fastest Saloon 2007, Loton Park.

Class C1 Runner up, Midland Hillclimb Championships.

Winner Class C3, Midland Sprint Championships.

Midland man Of the meeting 12/13th August, Midland hillclimb championships.

Fastest Production Modified car 2007, Curborough.

So it seems my 2007 hillclimb project was quite a success.

I don't want this to sound like one big advert but anyone who hillclimbs on a regular basis will understand how much it could mean to have a top tuner behind you as you attack your season. I have been lucky enough to have that and obviously would like to thank Paul, Liz and the rest of the Zen Performance crew for helping me out no end. I would not nearly have been as competetive without them.

I would also like to thank my brother Pete, for pushing me, and beating me sometimes. We just race each other and it turns out we end up on top of the pile, but our race is what makes us compete higher than we ever could individually.

Here is my Favourite Photo and video of the season.

A club meet at Prescott 23/9, Dual driving with my Dad. Results meant nothing and I got to chuck my car around for fun, and ended up going really fast anyway.

YouTube - Subaru Impreza @ Prescott Hill Climb

I hope you have enjoyed following my progress and I will continue this thread in 2008, albeit on a much lower scale

I intend to come out of the traps fast next year with a new spec car and will post my off season progress on here.

Cheers!

Rob.

Great tally of results Rob, well done to you and all.

The effort Rob puts in compared to others (esp me) has gathered the above impressive list and lots of things to polish! The game has dramatically risen as new blood comes into a class that was simmering for a long time, but is now to the boil for the forseeable future.

I for one hope your winter mods are down to adding stickers only...

I also hope with some effort on my half I can catch-up in 2009 and narrow the gap a touch!

Graham.

Thanks mate,

My winter mods are in discussion, but I do intend to take the humble Impreza to another level on the hills and take the fight to Roger in the Audi full on, which is some task as on talking with him in length at the weekend it is coming back with more power and possibly sequential gearbox, a scary prospect indeed. Then there is Pete with whatever he pulls out of the hat, and maybe the return of Roy?

First thing for my car is a massive diet!

It's weird, from the 2006 records I have taken 1.39 seconds out of Loton Park, 0.80 out of Shelsley Walsh and 0.57 out of Prescott, and still been dominated by Roger. Our class has moved on so much and like you (finaly) I intend to get busy racing rather than get busy quitting in 2008. Roger and his A4 is the best thing to happen to C1, a massive kick up the **** for a class caught in limbo. But limbo no more, next year will be a real fight and Pete and I will snap at the heels of the A4 incessantly and raise the C1 bar in the process hopefuly.

I need to work my *** off across the winter to see what Zen can create with my modest pennies in time for 2008.

More photos from Rhodopsin, I just can't get enough of them.

Cheers mate, if I can get my car within 70kgs of yours I will be happy.

We need a foreign exchange programme for the hills, us up there and you down here, I'll even lend you some real tyres .
