Hillclimbing, the 2007 Season Project.
Hi Rob looking forward to seeing you and your car going , happy to pick your brains again when you are removing the dead rubber off your tyres [ it did some good 55.something fantastic well done .
Yeah, it's a good one. (vid and Gurston!)
They have a few others on Pistonhead's TV if you do a search.
Including the white Tuscan and 'the' Puma at Shelsley.
Maybe I should try and get a cheap Pug and see if we can do some events
mind you it's all very well having the car, it's all the other costs!!
And, it's difficult to get an entry if you don't enter a series/championship is it not?
Hmmmm

I have joined the HSA (£32.00) and Midland Toyo Speed (£25.00) for 2008 - which is very reasonable cost for 2 champiionships.
PS How are things??
Be good to see you.....................

Hi Richard
True the HSA one is good value, that's what I'd entered before, but entry fees at £80/100 soon add up as well as fuel, accomodation, food!
Health still not getting any better, in fact probably going downhill. Trying some new drugs, but no improvement yet with the constant migraine, the next thing is to have electrodes implanted and I'm not too keen on the idea!!
I do hope to come and spectate a bit this season, probably at Prescott as it's closest.
cheers
Martin

The first A meet is at prescott wadsy 26&27th, drop me a line if you want some tickets mate.
I will not be making the Loton practice day on the 22/23rd or the curborough on the 30th as my car won't be ready due to me deciding to have a full multipoint t45 weld in cage fitted to my car.
I got a nasty surprise when removing my old cage it had only 1 base plate and the rest was just rotted old nuts and bolts to the shell, very dodgy indeed. Also the 2008 blue book in the diagram section no longer lists a picture of my cage as being legal, infact there are no pictures of dash escape cages at all!
So as the car gets faster and so do I and I push harder and harder I want to be properly protected if anything goes wrong, even if it has blown my budget totaly off the scale.
I will be working on the car at Zen this week and will take progress pictures as I go.
My target is to be out at the HSA event at Curborough on the 12/4 to get back into it a couple of weeks before the first big A meet at Prescott.

That would be great Rob (pm sent) - thanks very much
I think a decent cage is a worthwhile investment, especially and the speed and commitment levels you need to be competitive.
Good luck
Martin
ps. If anyone else has spare tickets for later Prescott (others) dates? all donations gratefully recieved!!
Im planning on booking it for about a months time hopefully so might be able to get you some then if thats any good to you? Most of it might be on the grass though!

I will be out at curb on the 13th at the HSA event, I hope its a nice day or it's a seriously miserable place to be. Good track to get back into the swing of things though.
I will post some vids if you can wait that long John.

I went up to Zen the other night and had a go at removing some redundant metal and my dad cleaned out the doors ready for painting, I also got the knakered rear bumper off.
Drilling out spot welds was harder than I expected and I kept drilling too far and punching through the metal so my car looks like a sieve and as my dad kindly pointed out "it's going to ****ing whistle" as it goes up the hill. Fortunatey I have an unlimited supply of ally tape from work so I can hide my butchery.
Whilst it felt like a hell of alot of effort for little weight save I was plesantly surprised when I put it all in a box and there is plenty more to come out, I have done all the easy obvious stuff though and it will be more difficult from now on.

I'm working quite close to Zen next week so hope to put some decent time in I will also have to get doors off, glass out everything else out for the cage fitting on Saturday.

Kriky Rob, I thought you were further on than that.
Interesting watching this progress as I know you work very hard. This kind of prepping takes a very long time it seems...
Hard work. Is Zen's ace welder popping the tubes in for you?

By deciding to have the cage fitted at a very late stage the progress with the car kind of came to a halt until it goes in this saturday thats why I pulled out of Loton practice and Curb on the 30th and have gone for the HSA meet on the 13th of april as the new target.
Custom cages are very busy and I wanted the cage by this weekend but they just couldnt do it.
Me ripping out metal is just another small job I can do within my absolute zero mechanic skills whilst waiting for the cage.
I work hard at work to pay for this stuff which leaves me little or no time to actualy work on the car, but to be honest taking stuff off and ripping stuff out is about all I can do so it's pretty much at the stage where there is very little work I can do on the car anymore.
2 freinds of mine who are a bit handy with a welder will be doing the cage, seat tubes and steering column mount this Saturday and Paul has been kind enough to let them use his welders and workshop facilities despite them being nothing to do with Zen at all, I am as ever very greatful.
I will document the fitting process in pics on here after Saturday.
Another night up at Zen and more weight out.

Car stripped for cage fitting, the glass was going to be a night mare so I'm getting a window fitter to remove it hopefuly in one piece.

Felt like having to go backwards to go forwards and looking at the calender and the state the car is in at the moment I couldn't help thinking it will be tight to get it out on time but I hope to put plenty more time in on it myself next week after the cage is fitted and we shall see where were at then.
Looking at the forecast I think it might have been a blessing in disguise that my car is not ready for the Loton practice this weekend.

Regs and entry forms will be available from next week at Brecon Motor Club- Hill Climb
It takes place on Sunday 22nd of June and pics of last years event are here Brecon Motor Club
Forum member 911 took part last year, despite missing a Father's Day lunch, and enjoyed himself I think.
Regs are already out to championship contenders of the WAMC, ACSMC, AWMMC and the TVR Speed Championship.

I will be there in the Impreza or the 911.
Rob:
Today at Loton
Blue skys, dry track and friggin bloody cold!
That funny short Audi made it to the top 5 times!
A 911 is clearly stupidly hard to drive fast. HOW did I do 62's on 1A's 5 years ago (other than being younger) and 230 bhp??
Impreza's are just so easy to drive!
Sunday:
Looks grim....
Could be an early bath for all.
