Hillclimbing, the 2007 Season Project.
No.
I will be at Epynt in the Impreza as I doubt the 911 is fast enough but it can be deceptive...
Epynt is just Good Fun, and that event with Barbon was the highlight of 2007. It is a fab track and a very good experience. I simply cannot miss it!
I am sure Rob/Pete would blow my 'record' away as they are so much faster than me, but I will be there to cheer them on.
You are doing 2 of them in 2008?
Please make sure I get the regs!
Very happy memories. That back straight is just AWSOME! Flat in 4th or 5th for the young and brave.

Took a trip down to Zen today do deliver some christmas cheer.
I also got to see some of my new engine parts which I must say was a bit of a dissapointment, they turn out to be cast offs from some bloke called Peter Solberg, who also drives a Subaru so Paul informs me.

Graham, found a video of your record breaking run at Barbon, your the second car out looks like a good hill, if a bit short?

How interesting is that?
I was just 1 second slower than Keith!
It is a very short deceptive hill and the bends there are are very awkward, esp the last one before the finish.
That one is where you must drop to 1st and give it death.
Don't buy second hand engine parts Rob, esp when they have been raced and rallied!
I'm sure you will give the others a real fright.
Mark the Cheeky One:
Can you remember how to hillclimb!?
Just what have you been doing for THREE seasons now?
Get it out for next year.

Some guy called Roy something or other tried to buy it first with some old white mitsubishi taxi looking trade in.
Anyway, i sold the wife to some Arab and have bought myself a nice blue car......
Still trying to get the pig looking things off the wing mirrors, anyone got any tips?
Also under the bonnet, everything looks a bit different, anyone know where the dip stick is?
See you on the hills then!
PS Mr 'O' if you read this stuff, yes I do find some odd cars (Private Joke).
I was only joking, but it's good that it's brought people back to life.
Only 12 weeks to go.
Will the cars be finished in time?
Will everyone who threatens to come to the hills actualy arrive?
Will people perform in their new machines?
We shall see, should be good fun finding out!

Too true, just 12 to go.
In my case just need brake pads and Kumho's
I think they actually will, but only 2 of them.
Heaven knows, but the 2 in question might by mid season
I have a different slant on that one.
Bloody cold in the garage!
John's joking about Roy?

So true John, and more determined than he appears, and with the cash too.
However; I think he did like the new experience of the plane flight he took with his friends. A friend of mine ditched the cars (drag racing and sprinting) and made his own plane, and has never looked back.
Finds it far more interesting.
A classic Cessna is very nice..

I always thought a rallycross car would be the perfect hillclimber if set up right, I'm not to sure on their specs though so as to which class they would be in I'm not sure. Same with a WRC car, they would have to be unrestricted to compete but I think they would be sports libre? Graham any ideas?
Entering in a cars like that would be a massive spend and big statement so you had better perform or risk having egg on your face. Would Roy take that risk?
I'm not too sure!
Having been really bored for 10 mins (waiting to go Xmas shopping) I read the section in the 2008 Blue Book...
It even says the engine can be relocated into a different position as long as it is in much the same position, ie front engine = about in the front!
Suspension points CAN be moved!
As I quickly read it, I thought I was reading Mod Prod = Libre...
Little wonder we have Audi V8's with a turbo in each headlamp box!
Rob: You are right I think about Roy. His exploits must work out. Second is not good enough.
I do know that Group B rally cars are ustomatically Libre (Ken Simm's Metro) and it is a surprise the SWB Quattro's are in Sports Cars.
There are some very grey areas in hillclimbing.
A road going class could be good...(sorry)

These, very short videos are not good quality (picture wise), but the sound from Mick's Quattro is out of this world (best sounding car perhaps)?

Yes, take your point, possibly how the SWB Quattro's went to Sports Class some years ago and where I'll be in 2008 cruising.
Mind you, that class 4 years ago was very depleted and the Quattro's have certainly perked it up a bit.

Just a trip to Ireland and a £100K+ and job done!
3 years ago a full-on rally team bought a real Prodrive WRC 3 door to Shelsley Walsh in tarmac trim, Rob might remember it too.
Togged-up driver and team all prepared and up they went, about 1.5 seconds faster than me. Not very impressive.
A Zen car does it better.

Well my plan is to be in Time attack for 2008 with the help of my sponsor, but unfortunately in the pro class agaisnt paul/phil glew and alike. I will also be enterend in the midland hillclimb championship as only 2 of the time attack dates clash.

I think Shelsley is probably be the worst hill for a WRC car to show it's potential as it is the hill where power matters most.
For example My PB bottom ess approach in my car is 19.30, the quickest I managed in the Zen car was 19.09, just 2/10ths of a second faster not to take anything away from the Zen car I think I could quite easily take over a second out of that time with more experience in the Zen car but to highlight how the power makes the difference My time in the Zen car was 29.47 and in mine 30.37. So 2/10ths became a second up the back straight thanks to 250+ extra bhp per ton.
I would be interested to know the splits and terminal speed of the WRC car I don't imagine it would be quicker than my 104mph finish line crossing speed (Zen car 119mph!?!) because no matter how expensive or sorted they are power to weight is what matters up the straights.
I'm sure they would have had tarmac stage tyres on which would be a far harder compound than the stuff we run, I doubt they would have even got warm by the finish line.
I think at Prescott and more so Loton they would be much more competetive, just look at Martin pike in the escort, his record in the <2.0 class at Loton is 57.40, that is just crazy fast, a 190bhp well sorted car and fantastic driver, now a wrc car on the right tyres with the right driver would probably make mince meat of my record with some practice. And as John said above derestrict one and we would all be in serious trouble I think.
All just speculation of course
Interested in people thoughts.....
Looking forward to some good days out supporting Pete and Team Zen at the time attack rounds when not tearing up the hills.
2008 is shaping up to be a good year for motorsport.

Car looks good Pete, is that engine a bit bigger than 2000cc?
That WRC car/team did look totally disinterested on the day. It was one of those centenary 3 day events iirc.
Indeed, 2008 on the hills will be good to watch.
I think Pike to going for a BDA engine/head in the flyweight Escort?

Maybe all paddock rumours!? Not that I'm one to gossip you understand!
Can't imagine you could get any more off that car?
Off downstairs now the family have woken up for Xmas day.
Hope you get the engine parts you want Rob!
Rumour has it you hav.....
