That is a great pic, the real buzz is the look on the crowd's faces. They love the quick saloons.

I think big guns will turn up in 2008.

2 have demanded I keep id's secret, but the top 5 in the class will be 440+
The big EVO never got to grips with the hills, but one today I thought would enter is not, so maybe a 6 or 7 driver class.

Question Question for Graham and Rob

G and R,

I know of a potential new candidate/victim for 2008.

He has come from a Lancia Integale, and now owns an STi Type RA which is currently pretty standard.

One quickie - which modifications takes a standard car into modified class(tyres/trim)?

I know list 1B tyres move you into the big boys class, but after reading the Blue Book, I am not 100% clear on what he, or me can remove/change for 2008?

I think only carpet/floor trim can be removed?

Richard

He needs to be careful of Championship as well as Blue Book rules.

ie there is no Production class Saloons-over-2-litre in Nat A c1 class.
In B meets there is.

I seem to recal you can have wheels 1'' over stock width (watchout for dia!)
Body is stock (iirc you can add a boot spoiler etc)
1A's of course.

From what I have seen, pretty much anything goes as long as you have 1A tyres. I've seen stripped out cars in the road going class, a 200sx win a road class event on 1b's at prescott and nobody said anything. Those are extreme examples but nobody would care if you had 18 inch rims on a car that left the factory with 16's, you can follow it to the absolute letter of the law but you would be the only person and probably uncompetetive as a result. I think some interior, the right tyres and tax/mot and you could run anything.

Richard

Stick to what is in the blue book and championship regs and you won't have any problems. The roadgoing regs for sprinting are pretty tight.

I have run in a road going class with no interior at a clubbie (not a round of any championship) without comment or problem.
However, I was moved to modprod (my usual class) at a Midland Speed Championship round at the same venue.

Same car, same tyres, just different events.

Excellent!.......Whats a CDB?

Thomas is probably right, but I have just seen class regs flouted so many times I wonder if it's worth the effort for people who stick to the letter of the law. I had a Westfeild GT car in my modprod class at MIRA, they accepted it wasn't a mod prod and in the wrong class on my complaint but they let him stay, their reasoning, he had no other class to go in. So he came in ours and quite obviously smashed everyone and took the win over the real mod prod runners who bothered to enter the right class and stick to the regs?!?

Closed deck block, strong block for those looking for higher output engines.

Graham I presume you are sticking with the 2.0-2.2 format then, and not the 2.5-2.35

Yes, on the thought of using a 2.5 and going the whole hog, BUT, the seller is a very very honest bloke and the block is slightly damaged..so the deal is off.

It was very cheap.

Getting fed-up of several things happening at the moment.

Mark:

The Axis S2 looks a good bet with the $ exchange, everything all done and built ready for the heads.
Isn't that what you had?

If the CDB was ace then I would go for the 2.1

I think I should just put everything away and sleep on it for a month or 2 and get the 911 ready.

As for adhering to the rules, I think our class is one of the purest ever!
I do think Rob is right though. I had the same happen to me at Epynt, but it was just a touch of fun then.

Graham

No it is a stage 3 and yes with the dollar so weak its an excellent price. I'm sure Ron would do a discount :-)

I'd look at the stage 4 but the blocks are hard to find

The S2 is about the right spec I think for 450 x 450 on an MD321.
Have emailed Axis on their 'works' email, but no answer after 4 days...
Do you have a 'special' address at all?

Give him a call and ask him to look at your email. If you have problems with the number (sometimes it will not asnwer UK calls) I have another number somewhere

Or I could give him a prod

Sent email to the 'other' address (Ron's) so will give it a couple of days.
Just want to know the costs for the S2 and the one with lightweight H rods.

If that doesn't work I will call them direct.
Need to work-out a budget 'approach'

I went to the Hagley and district car club awards dinner yesterday and got a nice surprise. I thought I was runner up in Class 2 of the H&H Loton park championship, it turns out I won it! I think the guy who over took me on points in the last meeting was entered in the wrong class? Maybe Graham can shed some light on this, but I'm not complaining. I also picked up my fastest saloon of 2007 trophy, it's a good feeling to be etched on there with some great drivers of previous years. Pete was awarded the best newcomer which is totaly justified and well deserved. It was a good day out and now I have to try retain the trophies for next years ceremony, better get back to chiseling off sound proofing then.

A good haul.

I have been stripping my car out on and off over the past couple of weeks in my aim of getting it under the 1100kgs mark from my starting point of 1170kgs when I put it on the weighbridge at the end of the season. I will be keeping it all glass windows and all metal panels for the 2008 season as my budget needs to be spent elsewhere, so to make sub 1100kgs with the cage is going to take a fair bit of work. I'm confident I can do it though.

Anyone who knows my car it was pretty empty in the first place but it's amazing just how much crap was in the car.

Obviously the cage has to go back in, only when you get a part of it out and hold it do you realise just how heavy CDS cages are.

I am undecided on how much of the dash and centre console I am going to use at the moment, the centre console weighs nothing but the dash is pretty heavy, I have removed a lot of crap from behind the dash already though which was a considerable weight saving.

The dreaded soundproofing, what a miserable job to remove it all, it's everywhere. I did find a neat trick which helped to get it off in big chunks, freeze spray from the plumbers merchants, spray it over a section till it's frosted then belt it with your chisel and it comes off in much bigger chunks leaving much less mess on the shell as well, shame I only got it about 2/3rds of the way through doing it. All together it weighed in at 13kgs so worth all the effort.

A box of general crap, every bracket, wire, piece of crap I could take off I have and all alltogether the box currently weighs 16kgs.

The heater matrix and fan, a total ******* to get out and weighed in at 6kgs which was a bit dissapointing considering the work to get it out, but it all adds up I suppose

And I'm left with this, it's not very pretty at the moment but hopefuly I can make it look a bit more respectable by the start of next season.

I'm far from finished but the next lot of weight removal is about to get a bit technical so I may have to draft in some help for a few bits I have in mind.

I'll post some more progress pics up when I have done some more.

Rob.

Rob
You can remove the rear door bars, they weigh a bit, maybe use a hole saw to remove excess metal from the inner door skin?
Now looks like mine did inside, I left the heater in though so I could clear the screen if necessary (and for heat!!)
Are you going to fit a heated screen??
Well done on your results btw.
Cheers

Cheers Martin,

I intend to remove the rear door bars and winder mechs, I just need to get the right tools for the job.

I have never had to demist my screen at a race event and my car is no longer road going so no need for the heated screen I reckon.

Hope your feeling better these days mate.

Hi Rob
You may know this but, you'll need: a sharp, flexible scraper to cut through the mastic sticking the door bar to the outer skin, a spot weld drill and a grinder with a cutting disc to cut the bar in half to get it out once free, and spare knuckle skin (obviously!!)

I'm not as bad as I was thanks, the medication I was on for my head actually made me have suicidal thoughts! - I'm no longer on this!! So head still bad but no longer contemplating the above.

My engine is now run-in and being re-mapped this week, then it'll be up for sale unfortunately. I love to keep it as it's going to be quite quick!

Cheers

Martin

Good to hear mate and thanks for the advice.

I sold my entire engine yesterday, i was only selling the short engine but ended up selling the whole thing!

Maybe my weight saving has gone too far this time.

Nope. Just got back from a quick drive in the Sti...will miss driving it next year in many ways, the 911 feels very heavy in comparison as well as 7 seconds slower than the Sti up Prescott!
Hope I can stay awake next season.

Got the Zen Plan sorted on the engine/box I hope Rob.
Will Pete still do the EVO for next year, also, did your dad sort his license? Mine went through ok following the advice I gave him.

ps: a blue rolling shell off Zen would be a good starting point?

Plan is coming together, money is the limiting factor as ever so were working something out.

Pete will still be Evo next year, dad got his licence sorted thanks loads for your help.

Zen car is out of my reach but it would be ideal.

Hi to all of you I met at hill climbs this year. It was good to do my first hill climb and I hope to do some more next year (new house/finances permitting).

Good luck in preparations for the new season. If my house purchase comes off them I'll have:-
a) a double garage to work in
b) one less excuse for not doing more

For the record we will be running the Epynt Hill Climb again next year, so put June 22nd in your 2008 diary. Graham, do you hope to come back in the 911 to defend your class win ?
