Hillclimbing, the 2007 Season Project.
I can confirm the Zen Performance Time Attack Impreza will be making it's hillclimb debut at Shelsley walsh this weekend. Rob will be driving the car saturday and sunday.
He's just completed a few familiarisation runs, seems happy with it all for now. Likely it will run just as it did at brands, less the splitter and non OE rear wing.

I saw some footage of this on Sky at Time Attack at Knockhill, great stuff, looks a cracker Paul.

Think I will take up fishing again......
Looking forward to tomorrow.
Good luck guys.
Even if you put a good 2.5/ppg in my car it will not match the power/weight of Rob's car. 600 bhp/tonne is a big ratio for a tin-top.
The class is now a full-race class, and might as well be merged with C2, the sports cars.
The Zen car is faster than ANY of them yesterday.
If Rob runs this car next year then you will need a similar car at least, and I know who can build you one! Might just be why Rob has this fab motor to play with?
A big class record will be set today.

Well I was just getting to sleep when Graham posted that this morning. While there was no body panel damage from Rob's off, the minor excursion accross the bank had pulled the front crossmember back, twsited the rad and intercooler, ripped open a big crack in the exhaust manifold, bent the bumper mounts, squashed an oil line and killed one of the fans.
I started stripping it down around 7.30pm and successfully completed a few laps of the industrial estate at around 5.20am after working through the night. Rob helped here and there but mainly managed to get about 3 hours sleep and helped clean up afterwards.
A good day but with only 2 runs to take the record on the first visit, we were a little overstretched, and missed by a fraction of a second. There is time in the car and it will return to Shelsley. Later in 2008 it should be available to run the hills seperately from a new Zen car.
I am thinking that £30k will buy someone the blue car, but I may frighten myself and add up the true cost.

Zen car is just f**king awesome, it totaly killed everything but the best single seaters, and I did not nearly do it justice. Missing gears, braking too soon, braking too much, cornering slow. Having never driven it in anger before this weekend it is hard to adapt to arriving everywhere 20mph faster. Also stuffing it into a bank at 106mph wasn't part of the plan but hats off to Paul for getting it ready in time for sunday. I should have rewarded him with at least the class record which the car is so so easily capable of if not the overall hill closed roof record but didn't mange to string one decent run together, the learing curve proving too steep in just the 3 complete runs I did over the weekend. Unfortunately that's hillclimbing.
29.4 with missed down change and slow bottom part of the track. Just an incredible car.
Watch this space, in the future with 4 decent tyres instead of my chewed up pieces of sh*t, a bit of time behind the wheel for me and the correct set up there will be a record set that will stand for a decade.
It definately got the Hillclimb world's attention today.
Thanks so much Paul.
I'm tired.

Rob, driving 600+ in those conditions is somewhat different to driving it round the industrial estate or Brunters for that matter. Well done!
Steven
I've said it elsewhere, but the Blue Zen car was simply fabulous and a great pleasure for me and many others to see and experience.
It shows clearly what is needed to be very very very competative at today's hillclimb, and 30K seems a bargain to me.
There is a great model to follow even if you cant copy it you can nick some great clues to build a car 'similar' to it and do well.
I've taken a lot of mental notes to discuss with the wife on holiday for 2008.
Thanks for bringing it Paul.

Fortunately it's one part of my test track loop, but never under competition like you guys. Having pushed my car (550+) along this road, i can begin to undestand what it is to push 700 along there!
Pics from the weekend in the Zen car.
Might give some perspective of just how narrow these hill climb tracks are.

It is nice to break the 30 second barrier, but there is much more time in the car which was frustrating, I think I could break 30 seconds in my car, so the Zen car with 250bhp more and 80 kilos less I think has the capability to go after the closed roof record of 28.06. A bit of set up tweeking, a good set of tyres and some more time behind the wheel and it will do it. Paul offered me more bhp on the day but I couldn't nearly adapt to what it was running in 4 runs let alone more!

Got mine back now with 2.5 in, running it in before re-map then selling.
Thanks for your words of support previously.
Going through really bad patch at the moment.
Cheers
Martin
I have the rota torques that used to have my road tyres on which I swapped the slicks onto to fit the Zen car for shelsley, I am going to stick with them and sell the compomotives to help towards something else. Still for sale any sensible offer gets them.

Did a Pescott club meeting on sunday, I finished fastest in class by 3 seconds and also got to try my new AP brakes out which I must say were a big dissapointment and need some serious sorting out. Still had fun dual driving my car with my dad though. Last time my dad drove my car was at the start of the season and he was well impressed by the development of the car since then, despite trying to wreck it by spinning in the esses! conditions were not great but I was in the 45's and set a PB speed trap split of 74mph. really pushed it on my second run going after the record of 45.35 was going great guns 1/2 a second under my PB Pardon split time but had a bit of a run in with the tyre wall on the exit of pardon which put paid to any record breaking, posting a resonable time despite the run in with the barrier.

A video of my first and quickest run of 45.9 from the roof of my car which looks very cool.

This is how I did this on my second run which is a shame as I was 1/2 a second under my pb split which is on pace for the record just before it.

There are 2 Loton park B's this weekend which I am not entered in.
I am hoping for a wash out as I currently am leading the Loton park championship and the drivers behind me can only pass me if they pull off some extraordinary times and are in single seaters which will require perfect dry conditions. So cold and wet would suit me fine. I must say it's looking pretty grim at the moment so fingers crossed!

My fingers are crossed for good weather!
Got your bro and Dad to chase and a Ferrari too....
Think I have sorted my plans for 2008/9 out now at long last.
Just got back from France with a heavy cold so not feeling too good, the Sti will feel fast after the Fiesta I've been driving for 2 weeks...

You won't be chasing my dad today.
he had possibly the most spectacular turbo failure in history yesterday check this out!

Conditions have been great so I'm told so theres a very good chance the people behind me in the championship have improved their target time by enough to win it but we shall see.
Rob.
Good grief!
The driver must have been as frantic as the car!
There is no such thing as a slow Irish race car and driver as I found out at Epynt.
The Audi turbo blow-up was the stuff of legends at Loton today.
Sorry Pete/Dad were not there today, wanted to have a chat for next year and steal a few ideas too, maybe Shelsley next weekend.
I don't think you have anything to worry about Rob, but I hate to think what your handicap will be next year!!
PB for me today but still in the bloody 57's.
