CS LAN Game - When/Where?
#272
Puff, Matt,
Thanks. I'll keep working on it, and bring it "as is" on Sunday. If we can not get it to work then I'll use one of youe spares and see that goes OK.
cheers

Network neighbourhood is the biggest pile of @S£$ going
Can your PC (call it PC1) ping the other Win98 PC (call it PC2)
Can PC1 ping the Win2K PC
Have you also shared folders on PC2 and the Win2K PC
If you are okay on teh above go to start>run, then type \\IP address of either PC2 or Win2K on PC1. Do you get a window of the shared folders or do you get a error message back?
If you can't ping from PC1 then your card is either shagged or your IP setting are wrong. Normally its settings.

Okey dokey. I think I'm set. Have a box here with about 20-30 network cables in, varying in length from a couple of metres to vvvvvvvvvvvvery long ones.
The Cisco 4000 is too heavy to bring, just tried picking it up. I'll just bring a 24 port 10/100 hub(its not a switch ), just in case we run out of ports
I have a couple of spare PCI NIC's as well.

OK - Some confusion here people.
1) Netbeui - not that bad actually for a small 1 subnet LAN. Is actually quicker than TCP/IP locally. Bag of ****e of course if you want to route 'cos you can't.
2) net Neighbourd = **** ! The command line is your friend. if netbeui works and ip doesn't its your settings. check the net mask. Ping is the god of network utils.
3) A 10/100 hub is actually a 2 port switch. The 10 meg and 100 meg LAN segments are connecetd with a 2 port siwcth or as some like to call it..... a bridge
4) H - you bringing a couple of x-overs and some couplers ?

Earlier in the thread someone asked if there was a spare 17" montior that someone could bring. I have one here I try to shoehorn into the car if it's still needed?
Let me know tonight cause I won't get up in time tomorrow morning to check SN.

Matt is it a decent flatish screen. ?
My 17" had to go back to NEC this week. I have borrowed an old 17" from work but its a bit goldfish bowl like.
If its a good flat tube I would be grateful.
Thanks

Sorry Deano, it's not a great one (borrowed from work). It's a Gateway badged vivitron thingy, it's up to you. I wouldn't call it a gold fish bowl but it ain't far off.

Actually just trying the screen, its not too bad and really quite sharp. So I think it will be fine. Puff, if you think you've got problems you should see the pile of bits I've just emptied from the Study to bring
Thanks for the offer of the TFT but I think I'll be OK now.
I do have 2 spare 10/100 nics with drivers so if nayone is without don't worry

Just checking in to make sure everything is still OK for tomorrow. Got a pass until 5pm - ish. So looking forward to a great days play. Even washed the car specially . Not sure how well I'll be able to drive home, since I'll probably have square eyes
