I would have thought that side ducts from the rear side windows could direct enough air to the TMIC?

yeah is it possible to get plastic rear windows made up with vents in or something do you think? anyway these are going to be the fun bits,im going to try and get the subframe properly bolted in this weekend ive been working down wales all week so i hav'nt been able to touch it. carnt wait to get back on it.

You could mould off the inside of the original windows in glass fibre, bond these in and then cut vents in..

 

I thought they where both using this ?

 

Really good James, dont use it that much to be honest, more for lugging round the family on the shopping trip! Saving some pennies to have a bit of paint work done, maybe do the wheels at the same time but have to say im pleased at the performance!

Think if I need anything mechanical done ill ask you!

has any one ever watched grass tracking?? there is some wierd and wonderful things built to race ..but class 7 is the one to watch basically anything u can fit in the bk of a car most go for twin bike engines in fiat chiqu...... how ever u spell it .. or one bloke has a 500+bhp supercharged cosworth engine in one and christ do they go..... well if they can keep the front wheels on the ground.. always wondered how something this much fun would be on the road so great idea building one chris

Bit of an update now ive started welding in the frame work and ive bolted the subframe and engine in to see how it fits. heres some pics...

 

Your project is coming along quicker than my mine James, I am still currrently recuperating after a hosptital op last month.
Out of interest is your engine/box due to sit level, or is there any slight inclination needed to the front or rear?

hi mate, im not sure what angle the engine is going to sit at yet because i carnt fit the box in untill i get the kit from saker as its to long with rear part still conected, i wlll be able to tilt the engine and box one way or the other to suit.

lol, i know what your saying mate, the escort wasnt my first choice but everything else i measured up wouldnt fit what i wanted to do with the running gear, the gearbox would be sticking out the back, i do actually still like mrk 6 escorts and this came along cheap and rust free so i decided to go ahead with it.

Your intercooler questions put me in mind of the factory chargecoolers fitted to the early legacy's. All you need to do is fit an extra cooling rad up front.





When looking for some pictures of one, I stunbled across this site dedicated to putting a Subaru lump into a V-Dub. Some useful stuff for you in there.

Thanks, the legacy charge cooler could be an option too, do they also work well when running higher boost? has anyone ever tested the temps of one?

 

This is based solely on my experience with my own Legacy, but I'd advise that at the least you fit a larger water rad and a better pump.
When used in hard in hot weather my car does tend to struggle to cool the water back down again, and consequently gets a bit breathless. I'm not to sure how efficient the core itself is, but Prodrive used them in the group A Legacy, and they managed to get 'reasonable' amounts of boost throught them.

 

Dont venture in here much, but I am hooked, superb project.
