JOHN HAS SENT ME SOME MORE INFO ON HEAT WRAPPING THE TURBO AND THE BENIFITS IT WILL GIVE PLEASE TAKE NOTE ON THE OF THE LAST SECTION IF YOU PUSH YOUR TURBO TO WHITE HOT
Hi Adrian

Just a quick note with regards to the turbo blankets. I have done some investigating and found a few things out that may be of interest to your guys.

They give a good power increase on a car that is set up correctly because they make the turbo run more efficiently.

They help the turbo spool up 200-400 rpm quicker once the engine is up to running temperature.

Reduces the under bonnet temperature by about 100deg in that area.

They will increase EGT’s ( exhaust gas temps ) by around 50deg.

With the increase in EGT’s in most cases this will not matter but if your car is pushing the turbo to the limit or the car is running slightly lean this can cause problems. 850 – 900 deg is fine ( turbo getting cherry red ) anything more ( turbo going white ) the turbo is running to hot anyway and a blanket is not advised.

A turbo will start to glow at around 650deg.

The turbo blankets tend to last around 12 months.

I have tried to find out as much as I can about the good and bad points of having them fitted. The general feeling is as long as the cars are set up correctly and not being pushed to the absolute limit they are a really good upgrade.

Regards John

HOPE THIS HELPS KIP

KIPS, with regard my earlier comment on turbo heat and how safe the blanket is... What turbo do you have and what power are you running? I'm trying to comfort myself that putting this blanket on is actually a safe thing for me to do. I'm running 1.25/1.30bar on a VF28/29/30(not sure which one exactly).
Cheers

HELLO MOLDS CAPS OFF
Im running a tdo5 on an import im aiming for 300bhp at the mo then 350bhp by the end of the summer injectors and pump group buy next i think youl find the blanket will be quite safe as john says if you push it to run white hot then you may have problems youl probably find if you to push your car hard somthing else will probably let go first if youre pushing it so your turbo glows white
