TopGear tonight (another poo one for real car enthusiasts)

Quality bit of entertainment for a Sunday evening!
I'd hazard a guess that there are more of us country yokels who enjoyed tonights show than folk who will be rushing out tomorrow to order an LP640!

I think there has to be a balance between the stunts and segments about actual cars. The former seems to have totally taken over now.
And even on the last series they usually had at least one car that a normal person could buy (eg the items on the 307CC or the day spent in the Smart car) but now the 'normal car' slot seems to be banished as well.

normal cars are just normal though arnt they? you dont need clarkson to tell you to buy one! just take a test drive!! as its a normal car your not going to want to know what the stig can do in it or how fast it will go! a quick search on the internet will give you the info you want!
it will be quite good to see the end result of the fuel growing!
group buy on some land anyon??

I don't mind the entertainment aspect of the show but personally found tonight dull pointless and naff. Smashing the crap out of things with tractors may have been good, Ploughing fields ? do me a favour.

millions cant be wrong.
Keep topgear as it is, so its not ruined for those that enjoy it. There are plenty more motoring programs out there.
Perhaps you like the stuff Mike Brewer knocks out?

I think that if the show had just come out there wouldnt be so many people up in arms about it. Its because its changed from what it used to be that the long standing viewers feel slightly aggreived.
I remember an old top gear when Tiff test drove the XJ220, some woman talked about the impending era of gatso's, and some old guy talked about old bikes.
Viewing wise its more entertaining currently, as there are now many other ways to find out the information/reviews people want about a car they want. Now its an excuse to what people doing stupid things for an hour

Surely it was a good introduction to the reality that land is going to be used to grow fuel in the future and it will be interesting to see how this impacts on the cheap food everyone currently enjoys?

Guys, you seem to be missing a very valid point.
Last year we had loads of new super & hyper cars being released week in, week out. This year there is foof all.
So what will TG do to fill the gap ??

It wouldn't harm them to have a few real world fast cars on from time to time, even if we've seen them before.
I used to like it when they had Scoobs, Evo's, Elises etc and they would race them round the track.
I rememebr them having a Mini with a 16v engine as well.
It doesn't have to be about reviewing a 307 HDi, but I would prefer to see them testing some quick cars against each other than just driving some pumped up Lambo, or messing about in tractors (although Stig falling from his seat was hilarious ).
Its a funny show, but I would like to see more performance cars on there. I used to like it when Tiff was on there chucking the S2000 etc round the italian mountain roads.
I liked the races they did as well, DB9 down to Monaco etc, but now the stunts aren't even car based.
Go and watch an episode of TG from 2 or 3 years back and it will be more enjoyable than it is now.
As for the "my family enjoy it" brigade. My Mrs doesn't mind it, but take me out of the equation and she wouldn't watch it. I think if they start to lose the actual petrolhead viewers, they will also lose 50% of the remaining audience as well.

Whether you like the current format or not, I can't see the BBC changing it too much to suit petrol heads given that average viewing figures are around the 8 million mark compared to 5 million last year.
Obviously, there is the 'Hammond effect' but clearly by appealing to a broader church the programme is pulling in the punters and not just car enthusiasts so on that basis it is a success. In fact, its the third most popular programme after those two dire soaps.

Remember, whilst arsing around in tractors and reviewing a 'hyper' car, they also mentioned buying a 107 is stupid, and French cars don't do well in consumer surveys - there's some good material in the news section!

Also, its not just the amount of viewers for the BBC to consider, its the revenue selling it worldwide. If the BBC reigned in the big budget tomfoolery then I'm sure the presenters would go their own way.

its just a comedy sketch each week now which imo is a shame, i dont mind the messing about as long as its in moderation and i think there should be 3/4 car reviews per episode! however as stated above, there havnt been many cars released!!!!

nice to here someone knowing what they are on about its a bbc programe looking to get as many viewers as pos if it just catered for petrol heads as in showing as many fast cars as pos then it would have less than half its audience. As it is it tends to skip normal cars but is still entertaining enough for a family audience everyone i know loves it and still manages to show off great cars.
