Sounds like an excellent idea - I just hope it works as well in practice

Where's the "Are being pedantic by correcting other members spelling and grammar" infraction option? (said only slightly in jest )

ROFL @ sara

You can see that you've been given an infraction, but I don't think you can tell by who. We can though, and will treat any abuse of the system seriously.

Sara,
Check your PM box

From what I know of the system, yes, you can see if you are given an infraction. It will tell you what the infraction was for, how many infractions points it is for, when it expires (date and time) and optionally, and I'd assume this is enabled, who gave the infraction, when, and also I believe why (user has to send a PM with a reason as to why they gave the infraction).

But it would have meant that A NUMBER of people felt that A NUMBER of your posts justified an infraction.
out of 60,000 members it is quite possible that your post wont be to everyones liking. for example if 10 members gave you an infraction for a post it seems that a lot of people had a problem with it, but if its only 10 infractions out of a possible 60,000 then it is not a lot at all

and if you are just testing the system how is it fair that can you still get banned?

Trust me when I say this. You're talking rubbish, and you've completely misunderstood.

I will speak to you briefly on MSN if you want, other than that, there's no point continuing to discuss it, as you don't seem to be taking in what I'm saying.

i think anyone with over 40.000 posts shouldnt be allowed to be part of the infractions scheme, clearly they have to much to say or are obviously trolls of the highest order

One little question. Say a known troll is banned, what is to stop that person from signing up using another name

That's always been an issue, but if the person is foolish enough to do this and starts trolling again then give them an infraction for doing so. It could end up a game of cat and mouse, but the troll who is re-registering would be a very sad person indeed to keep doing so just to cause trouble, and no doubt there could be other methods employed to end their "fun"

But that is what gives the troll pleasure. As with yourself I'm not a Plus member and have no intention of becoming one. I can see the balance of the people who contribute cash to the board having more of a say on trolls, but ....................
Nope not going to say any more. Hope it works and at least something is being done to try to stop trolls/racists etc.

i hope it will be reviewed properly, cos i can see pslewis for example being banned for no reason than some ppl dont like him. there seems to be an equal number that do tho.

if he trolls, then people will give him infractions and he'll be banned, simple. If he makes constructive and non inflammatory posts then he won't.

As you say, for those who find him amusing, there are an equal number of people who think he's nothing more than an annoying troll, something this forum could well do without, and he's not the only one.

but thats what i mean. there are enough ppl who generally dont like him to abuse the system.

One mans debating is another's trolling. Add to that the fact some people on here are retarded sheep..

If people abuse the system they will find themselves banned, so there is the rather large incentive not to abuse the system. There are specific categories for infractions, it's not a arbitary thing, so if his post wasn't trolling there aren't too many other categories it would fall into, thus if you decided to just pick one and it didn't make sense then the infraction you gave would be revoked by the moderators and you'd possibly find yourself with a warning not to abuse the system.

It's like the people up in arms have nothing better to do, I think a dose of reality is involved ( not jasey @ work ).

SNet is by comparison a very small space on the internet, take it for what it is.
Now look what you've done - you made me log in @ work and I'm too busy for all that nonsense

Where can I get this red/yellow card stuff from? I would be interested on maybe trying to implement it on a BBS over here that I run.

Thing is - certain people on forums, this forum included, do the keyboard warrior thing, and gob off just to cause offence and wind people up.

There is a world of difference between saying "I think knocklinks are pointless and I don't understand why people have them because......" - and, "Ha! you bought a cocklink! You have a big ***** on your head!".

So if this means the less constructive posts will cease then thats got to be a good thing right?

Sara - Clearly SNet is taking a leaf out of Tony Bliars book - the minoritys bleat - massive over-reaction, hence all the money spent on centres for Anti- non-heterosexual, non-european, non-non-paraplegic quangos rather than spending it on the huge non-minority who fund the pot to a small inverted fraction of the overall whole.

Hope that's clear

Question - why can't moderators be given an infraction ? yet another example of Blairism ???

Silly me - of course I understand now !!

One rule for us another rule for the mods
