Oh I just love pimps, sorry agents!
Just had mine on to tell me "he'd" got me a 12 month extension. Oh, how hard he must have worked for that, bet he needs a lie down now. I have never actually met anyone from this agency, they provided the lead, I did the interview and have been here for 3 years now on multiple extension, they must have had over 100k in comission so far.
I must admit they provide a service and I can't knock 'em for that, saves me having to go out touting for trade when I could be earning money. There are some very good agents out there, but on the whole, in my opinion, there are some serious cowboys who would be more at home flogging dodgy microwaves down the market.
Sorry, rambling now, but just wanted to put in my 2p!

Plantie,
How many disclaimers and how much pussyfooting do you want me to put into my post? I used the word "your" when writing the last response, big mistake - I apologise. I would have thought that the previous tone of my posts would have prevented you from assuming I was attacking you personally, but evidently not.
You agree with me about some agencies, yet offered an excuse for them. I pointed out it was fallacious. That doesn't make me opinionated because your point is not a valid reason to change ones mind.
You know good agencies - I know mainly crap ones. Scoobynet rules prevent me from posting names, perhaps you could be so good as to post the good one's names?
KF.

KF... we can be friends!
I'm not so much trying to change your mind, simply offering my knowledge of the market place to you.
I suppose I'm trying to achieve a little bit more of an 'Understanding' for you guys. A lot of consultants work very hard and deserve more than being associated with the crap. Get a little defensive! (sure you understand! )
In my oppinion there are not many good agencies but there are some good consultants!
I'm going to make an educated assumption and say you are a programmer, I don't know many consultants in this field but can give you a few names... for the Thames Valley.
Marcus Haige @ Pathway IT (Bristol Office) ****VERY VERY GOOD****
Miles Gallagher @ Progressive (Reading Office)
TJ - (Teresa) @ Huxley as above... (Reading Office)
Zofie @ Progressive (Bristol Office)
Paul Hunt @ 1st-Insight (Reading office)
Bradley Garland @ GCS (Reading Office - Is new so will be keen! )
Marcus is the best programming recruiter I know... he runs Pathway IT in the South West - anything west of Swindon.
Hopefully you will find some joy with these but try not to expect miracles...
Good luck!
