Yes ive heard the AMK/BAM 210/225 engines had ''uprated internals'' from the 150/180bhp variations aswell but i dont know if there is any truth in it as jabbasport reccomend changing rods on all 1.8T engines at around the 340bhp mark.
Yes even on the 210/225 engines (Jabbasport are top 1.8T tuning specialists)
The 150/180bhp engines have proven themselves just to be as strong as the 210/225 lumps.
Here are a couple of guys that have run stock internals with 340bhp IHI conversions from 150/180bhp based engines without any modifications to internals..
Engine Internal Work - SEAT Cupra.net (Post 13, badger bill, currently on 527bhp with ibiza although he has had uprated internals installed)

how do you control traction in that as my vRS spins up as standard in the wet without trying. Looking at getting a remap but that will only put it to 215-225bhp so what have you done to get 337bhp?

Its all in the right foot, the accelerator isn't just stop and go
To get big FWD power down on the tarmac, you need to part throttle 1st/2nd gear just below the threshold for when wheelspin occurs. It takes a bit of getting used to but you'll figure it out in the end. Yes if you go straight away full throttle, like you would in a scoob/evo you will light the wheels up and not get anywhere very quickly.
However once you pop it into 3rd/4th, and then apply full throttle action, boy do high powered FWD cars fly No 4wd tranny losses slowing it down

Mine's a Jabba IHI, i.e. a bigger turbo (and some other grubbins). Not changed internals (yet), and even the gearbox is still standard. Dyno'd on jabba's rollers at 337bhp
Wheelspin can be had very easy, and you have to change the way you drive. Traffic light grandprixs are no-no's, unless you accept that you lag behind before you are able to bury the pedal. On the motorway however it is not an issue

Mmmm doing that to mine would certainly stop my repeated thoughts of returning to scooby ownership which would be totally impractical. Would you mind saying roughly how much that sort of tinkering costs to get to 337bhp? Are there ways of getting to 260bhp for example without replacing the turbo or is it a case of after the remap then only step is to get a more powerful turbo and tune from that? Does it turn the mpg to that of a Scoobs? I'd be happy with 260bhp. I always shudder at the thought of replacing turbos though as I think its going to cost an arm and a leg.
Sorry for the hijack, a 337bhp Octavia intrigues me as my 180bhp is no way near enough after scooby ownership

Jabba IHI conversion including mapping and labour is about £4500. Will get you upto about 340bhp
This includes turbo/manifold/downpipe/injectors/MAF/Fuel pump/TIP and all the other little bits and bobs oil/coolant feed+return lines, gaskets etc
It depends on the base model car, if its the 210/225based cars, you dont need injectors/fuel pump/MAF/TIP etc so will be a little cheaper.
A standard 180bhp K03 turbo wont get to 260bhp im afraid, probably about 240bhp max. You need a turbo change to go beyond this on the K03 based cars.
260bhp FWD power is comparable to 300bhp 4wd power on the move when traction is not an issue (given weights etc are around the same) so they are certainly not slow

Yes your right, the remap gives you a good jump but the rest of them coupled together dont give that much in comparison peak power wise. Although driveability and power/torque through the rev range is improved more than the peak power jump suggests.
I dont think decatting works very well on the 1.8T. Gone are the days where you removed the cats and gained 25-30bhp. Probably 5bhp max on 1.8T.
Better off with a sports cat, saves messing around MOT time.

Fully agree on the 260bhp issue... I'd also say that 240bhp is the max you can hope for without replacing the turbo. If your car is standard, plan everything carefully, and save up some good dosh.
If you pop over to BRISKODA.net you will find many thread detailing the issues that you're concerned about.

Forgot to add: Quintens Octavia vRS - BRISKODA - The Skoda Forum and Community has all the things listed from my car.

Also forgot technically the 210 version is a little stronger I believe as it has 19mm rods rather than 18mm rods that are used in the 225 models.
From what I've been told by some people hwo deal with these engines.

Still the engines are reccomended at 340bhp for rod change. A lot of people will keep the standard pistons in and just uprate the rods.

Its the wrist pins and im sure its 20mm vs 19mm but again its not known if this information is correct. Im sure it started off in speculation!

Thanks Mitchy and Quinten, I will probably end up with the just the remap then for the money as big money outlay is not an option (hence never upgrading a turbo!). From what you have said though 220bhp in a fwd car will feel quicker once moving than my classic scoob did in standard form before I modded it.

TBH, my previous vRS was just remapped (216bhp) and that was already a much more driveable car than standard. Not got a clue on what classic scoobies (or any scooby for that matter) are like to drive so can't really give you a fair comparison on that. Plenty of ex-scooby owners on Briskoda though

TLGP's are a bit of a waste of time to begin with, but once you're in 3rd it's game over for lots of the opposition

Well i've put my name down for the Briskoda group buy on a remap by impossible performance but only if bhp figures are given after the remap is done. Otherwise i'll have to go to Jabba as I want to know what changes have happened after spending the money.

I can recommend both IP (not been there myself, but know lots about them) and Jabbasport (been there, done that, have the t-shirt ), so whatever you end up with, it will sure to make you smile
