Don't do it. Do what I'm doing. Keep your head down, enjoy the car and when all the idiots and kids have written off all the crappy ones, we'll come out the other side with well looked after classic cars.

I always stick to 30 and 40 limits and most 50 limits depending on the actual road.
NSL however is a different story, I treat those as 'derestricted'.
Had stacks of road instruction how to drive the cars properly, quickly and safely and use a decent turn of speed where I can.
I choose not to play around with other cars I don't know, prefering to do this in a small group of known drivers.
The boxster is a superb piece of kit as is the Scooby, all I'm saying is why not have a bit of respect for another man's choice rather than slating it based on an encounter with someone who isn't known.
I know that a decent driver who has driven one would not say a boxster is crap, that sounds a little strange to me.

My **** you stick to ALL Limits at ALL times!!
Sorry but people who state that so categorically really get up my nose.
FWIW I have driven both the Boxter and The Boxter S. I was bitterly dissapointed in the Boxter, which incedently was my first Porsche experience.
The Boxter S wasn't a great deal better. Maybe I'm spoilt as my scoob is reasonably well modified. A GT3 RS though is a different story entirely.

A lot of intelligent and biased posts on here as usual A lot of comparissons to modded cars as usual too. Very valid.
I will say up front that I dont own one. But ive been in a couple and I would have one.
Poor mans Porsche? Easy to say when most couldn't afford a secon hand one. We have to remember we are all driving Jap tin boxes, albeit very capable ones.
I think if you stuck a Boxter S on a track it might get interesting...

Is this thread still going?
A standard Boxster S is roughly comparable to a standard STI.
What else is there to discuss? It's hardly a surprise that a heavily modded Scoob will be faster than a Boxster S is it?

LOL @ good car: 0-60 3.9secs 184 mph
How many cars for circa £30K do that? Not very many.
I won't ever sell it so no need to worry about re-sale value.
I also have a nice sensible BMW 120 D M sport as an every day car.
As for the coke reference. I have never touched the stuff but i guess thats just tough talk behind the anonimity of the internet.
Sounds like most of you are clueless about your cars and speak from hearsay rather than lack of experience with these cars.
The thread is about the porsche boxter. Having driven both variants I honestly think they are over rated.
A Bog standard STI will be more than upto the task when coming up against the S. But like I said most of you have probaly taken the " well it is a Porsche and it will be the best car in the world" attitude.
As for the comments on mine I have built it myself. Its never been to a "tuning company" and I'm no mechanic. Just an IT consultant with a hobby.
Nothing that Porsche produces would worry me upto and including the GT3 RS (except the carrera GT of course).
Of course there's quicker out there but not for £30K. But they certainly haven't got Boxter S on the back of them.

But Daz, its still a Suabru.
THE THREAD IS NOT ABOUT MODDED STi's!
Its about how quick a Boxter is. And comparing a mid engined NA RWD sports car against a front engined FI AWD turbo saloon is about as poles apart as you can get.
While im happy you have spent 30k on your jap car, its no comparrison. You could chuck several grand at a Boxter and get *well* over 300 bhp I would think, and still have a class car.

A boxster will not live with a highly modded Scoob - fact!!! neither will most cars on certain roads, but as above the thread asks 'How fast are Boxters'
But a Boxster is not slow - in fact the new Boxster with the Cayman engine in it is less than a second slower to hundred than a 997S - and you wouldn't call one of those slow now would you.
The truth is unless your smoking around in a 400bhp Subaru/Evo etc. Ferrarri F430/911 Turbo - they're quick enough

A good friend of mine had a BoxSter S a few years back. I had a standard RB5. ( 220bhp) We had a side by side as we wanted to compare and The RB5 was the quicker car albiet marginally. I've sold the RB5 and I'm not using my current car as a comparison to a Porsche BoxSter as thats not a fair comparison. So please dont think that my posts are simply about "my car is better than a BoxSter".
I cannot comment on the "new" Boxter but what my posts are about is the original one wasn't that quick. It did handle well which isn't being disputed here. What I am saying is that I don't agree with is that they are a better and quicker car than a standard STI. They are not its that simple. Just look at the performace figures of each.
I do however think they are a nicer looking more refined car than the STI but again thats not being disputed.
As for the dax rush comment: My car still has four seats and a boot, heater electric windows, stereo etc and is still very practicle.

I am sure you do realise this, but you could have bought a GT3 or an RS and run them for less depreciation than you have spent on mods. When a tasty Porker pulls along side you at the lights do you ever think, "bugger I could have had one of those"?

Just a few points and I am not trying to get up your nose. A 350bhp Impreza will do 0-60 in the low fours and probably top 160mph. That'll cost a couple of grand in mods. £28,000 for half a second and 20mph on an already prison-sentence-inducing top speed seems a bit of a waste. What do you do with the car that requires you to extract such extreme performance (genuine question and not a dig)?

My car has probably cost me the sum total of £40K including its purchase so far so a GT3 or RS is somewhat more expensive and I could never afford outright. My car has taken approximately 2 years to build and none of it on borrowed finance such as loans or credit cards.
As for when i use it. When its finally upto the spec I want it I shall be doing lots of quarter mile and handling days as well as the many track days are on offer. As I said before this is also a hobby and building and tinkering is as much of the fun as driving it is.
I cannot see why my car is taking most of the focus here. I merely mentioned its spec when somebody used the generalisation that we all drive crap cars under £15K.
People may ridicule spending that much modding a car that cost me around £8K.
However at the end of the day I have a car that i love to drive, goes very well and the majority of the cost has gone into building the car stronger and more reliable enabling me to run those power levels for longer. I can see the generalisation that some people are making here i.e that I am some coke snorting chav that has a stickered up poor looking impreza thats all show and no go. Things couldn't be further from the truth. The car looks virtually standard and is quick enough to give the most exoctic cars a run for their money.
Back on topic I still don't think a Porsche Boxter is a match for the Standard STI.
As for your comments Seamaster my sumation of you is that your probably some ex matilow rupert thats nothing more than mr average in the real world but pretends otherwise.
I can only asume your cheap meaningless digs at me are because I have built and drive something the performance of which you could only dream of.
The fact that you have self titled yourself master indicates that you A: think too much of yourself.
Or B: you have named it after your replica watch you bought to give people the impression that you really are something special!!
