I dont know how you work that out, the A6 holds its value better than the Lexus GS. Just pick up a copy of Whatcar or Autocar and look at % retained after 3years. The more expensive GS models and LS models hold value surprisingly poorly, and are easily bettered by the Audi equivalents.

Lexus make good cars, but they are pretty bland. Swap the badge for another jap brand and you wouldnt notice. The German stuff is more distinctive and much more obviously a premium product IMO.

I been in my friends Lexus IS250 and I have to say, Lexus has moved the game on in terms of build quality, materials used and engineering. Much better than my BMW and my last Audi. The shut lines of the doors etc of the Lexus make the german marques look like canyons. I can't comment on the driving experience since I haven't driven it, but as a passenger, very refined indeed.

I bought a low mileage 2000 A6 2.4 Quattro for £7k. An eqivalent mileage and year GS was c£10k.

LEXUS ownership experience pi$$es all over the german ones. The dealers, on the whole, are fantastic. My uncle has a GS430 (fantastically built) and the dealers drive to his house, give him an equivalent or better courtesy car (full of petrol, can use as much as he wants), service his car (warranty stuff, not that anything has broken, only one thing that he didn't even know about is sorted no quibbles), bring back his car to his house and ring a week later to make sure everything with his car is a-ok.

Lexus are the best quality (car + dealer) brand in the world easily. They laugh at the germans. Oh and I drive an Audi, couldn't afford the Lexus GS as they hold their value better so none in my price range.
lexus are for people who dont like driving. A emotionless brand of cars that are boring and dont do handling. Lexus wants to be Mercedes and BMW

Audi poo poos all over them. Look at ring times' look at interior quality. The A8 still better than the LS, and thats about to get replaced, and Lexus super saloon is a joke. Only 400hp out of a 5.0 V8

And they are not as reliable as people think

So are you saying that another manufacturer makes a better engine than Audi? No that can't be true??
