Default Why do germans make the best cars in the world....

and the british make some of the ****test? I wanna know why one country can be more consistent than the other. No one beats the germans when it comes to making cars. They are just so good.

Any answers?

Look, why not go and find a German car forum to contribute your drivel to or stay in Other Marques at least.

In my opinion the Japanese make better cars anyway

I suspect your posting name may lead some people to believe that you're not being entirely objective

German manufactured products in general are engineered and made to an extremely high standard, its not just their cars.

It does tend to make office car parks a little boring however! Ok Im not one to talk driving a German car myself, but other than Range Rovers our work carpark is almost entirely Audi, BMW, Merc and Porsche. Good cars, but some people need to buy something other than those makes!

Reliability surveys consistently place Japanese marques at the top.
Here and in the USA.
The Germans have had quality problems in recent years.
It would appear those manufacturers are trying to address this.
It's cultural.
The Japanese, even in their foreign factories, have zero failure as their aim.
The Germans lost the plot for a time and thought profit was all.

efficiency!!!

iof youve ever been to the bmw plant Dingolfin, you see it as an art form!!!

every 120 seconds a complete drivetrain assembly is mated to a car, it dosent stop!! its every 120 seconds hour in, hour out, and its a 6 man team that does it over and over again.

to make it happen, you need efficent supplies, logistics, people, transport, so they have to build in (scuse the pun) reliability and quality.

look at bmw,s sales figures for last year

(Gets me a nice bonus too )

I think you will find that Toyota defined efficiency and most of the modern practices of hyper efficient car manufacturing when they invented lean thinking.

The worlds first and lots of Germans begged them to teach it to them. Porsche were the first to benefit.

American cars - thats the way forward though

Currently I would say German cars are the most overrated and overpriced heaps of ****e on the road. I drove an Audi A4 1.8 yesterday and it handled ****e, the lights were crap ,the interior was crap ,the top fell off the gear **** and it wheel spun everywhere. Also the gear box and clutch were **** as well. My girlfriends vectra was nice in comparison and I believed that Vectras were the worst cars in the world ubtil I got in that heap of crap.

Agreed, but this country has an obsession with them and the snobbery factor.

Take the Australian car magazines for example - usually brutally honest, although they tend to favour their V8 Holdens and Fords, their reviews quite often have cars like a Subaru Legacy winning a group test against Audis and Beemers - and rightfully so.

My poor neighbour made the mistake of buying a new BMW mini and the PoS has leaked water whenever it rains for the last 6 months without the dealer being able to sort it.

German quality is indeed a myth. They are relatively innovative though.

Germans dont just put our cars to shame, their construction teams do also. German plumbers have much higher standards than british ones.

For example we pressure test something for 30 mins at 3 bar, and are allowed a slight drop, well the germans will do that same test at 100 bar, and they are not allowed any pressure drop!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Germans make some of the best cars in the world, but we produce some of the finest organic home grown grade 'A' Internet Trolls in the world.....

I think mercedes' are amazing. Only mercedes could get a 2 tonne convertible around the 'ring in under 8 mins. Now that is amazing.

Boy we sure were lucky the yanks bailed us out in the 2nd world war as otherwise we'd all be speaking german by now. Infact that would probably be a good thing as then this country would still have plenty of good manufacturers around.

why? under just because under 8 mins is a big deal for a impreza its nothing to a quality car manufacturer such as mercedes.

When it comes to germans anything is possible. If the car in question was british I would agree with you

I don't know how long the ring is but to lap in 8 secs is pretty good I think.
