RS6 is a fabulous car and I'd love one but I'm just glad that the Audi in my life is paid for by the company and not me (other than tax!) Despite loving the looks of most modern Audi's I won't touch another in future. BMW are far better as a German-solidly-built-smart-car.
every manufacturer has its lemons, and reliability surveys are bull**** as they are inconsistent and vary greatly from country to country.

You should just give that A6 back and get another one.

Awful depreciation?? Retained value on RS6's is outstanding - something like 65% of new price after 3 years is about as good as it gets. That example is almost 4 years old and the screen price is still about 60% of the new price!!!

I dont think any changes will affect older cars - it will be a case of increased tax on cars manufactured after a certain date.

The sticker price of an RS6 at an Audi dealer is in no way representative of what the car would be worth privately or if you sold it to the trade. There is a very wide bid/offer spread on these cars.

Bought from new, over the first 36 months an RS6 will cost you almost £1000 per month in depreciation alone. That's serious depreciation by most peoples standard I would say.

Gary.

AudiLover - I would love to give it back, however I think with 40k miles on an 05 plate that chances of rejecting the car (via Lex) are unfortunately slim to ziltch.

Thing is, anyone buy now would be buying 2nd hand, so depreciation is less of an issue.

I sold mine privately for damn near what I paid from a dealer, despite putting nearly 10k miles on it. I doubt I'll ever achieve that again.

Absolutely agree, but remember a new RS6 is around the corner.

Problem is also that RS6 Saloon's are difficult cars to shift - the Avant model is the way to go......

Would love a RS6 PLUS - but probably leaning more towards an E90 M5 since the RS6 is due to be replaced shortly - no doubt with a knock on effect to old RS6 prices.

Talking of frightening depreciation, earlier I was having a random surf of Autotrader. 52-reg Audi S8's, when new £70K+, now going for £18-£19K. Holy crap, that's BAD depreciation.

Well guys, went on the test drive and to say I was disappointed is an understatement.

The car I drove was an 03 plate RS6 with 32k miles. I don't have a massive amount to tell you about as I switched off after about 5 mins, but the Interior build quatlity was poor. The lid of cubby hole between the front seats gave as much left and right as it did up and down ( I reckon a good fart could have had it off its hinges), handbrake felt as if I could pull it off and the whole interior felt rather cheap.

Drove onto the motor way and hit a bump, felt as is my spine had just been shattered, I apprectiate that ride comfort is not what this car is about, but I still like the way my teeth feel in my mouth, 10 more mins and I might have lost them. I have had scoobies and an evo6 and never felt anything as harsh as the RS6. I was expect a level of comfort that did not exist. I was hoping for a nice motorway cruiser that could shift, this wasn't it.

Performane was to be fair outstanding, car was easy to mange at low speed and HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGEEEEELY quick when foot to floor at any given starting speed, foot to floor at 90 was amazing.

Re-reading over some of the comments on this post I may well have had a **** car will new suspension required all round, but it's too late now. Wife had a drive and hated it, basically no chance that she will contemplate putting out daughter in it.

Oh well, back to the drawing board, may have to start looking down the Porsche / Ferrari and people carrier route.

Possibly the infamous Moscow Ring Road video - ISTR it was an RS4 tuned to 600bhp.

Default This Guy needs help for lack of appreciation

Ive never read such crap in all my years of motori ng. I own my 2nd RS6 Avant and the description I reply to here is probably the most INNACURATE REVIEW of a car Ive ever read. Audi RS6's have incredible build quality and the interiors leave everyone who has ever been in one feeling one thing..... complimentary. How anyone can call the electric heated Recaro seat with electric lumber supports, satnav tv, phone systems on pod computer system, etc etc is cheap is beyond me. And then go on to have the audacity to compare.....yes compare this car to an Evo 6 or Subaru (both great cars but built for performance rather than cockpit and trim,,,TRUE!) Ive had 3 Evo's and a 22B, RB5 and STi V7 (360BHP) and believe me the overall quality is beyond compare as genuine car enthusiasts would admit

I have never had ride comfort like the RS6 and if this guy had researched the technology in the suspension he would recognise quality beyond compare.

The thing that p1ssed me off most of all is that he says its no motorway cruised. That in itself is total bo11ox and this is the ULTIMATE motorway mile munching Club Class Experience..........what the hell he would expect from a Ferrari with a wife and child shows his mentality towards safety, comfort and performance. Everybody Knows the RS6 is faster than the Ferrari 360 and has the practicality of 5 adults and a bootload of space for whatever the occasion.

I'd be intrigued to see if he's bought anything since the testdrive and if so what it is....................i'll bet its sub £30k

My mate has a RS6 and the build quality is not as good as other A6's, I belive they're built by GMBH??
Also the RS6 eats brake discs and pads, they're just not upto spec with the rest of the car. You basically have a supercar in as Estate bodyshell with about 1850kg to slow down. They're also very expensive to replace with very few suppliers. Most tuned RS6's have brake conversions from the likes of Movit etc
There is also a problem of the heat generated from the brakes causing the paint to flake off the wheels due to excess heat, that's why the RS6 plus has a different finish to the wheels and uses drilled brake discs.
I still love the car thought, the look on peoples faces why you accelerate past them in an estate car!

Like someone said... helluva second post.

By the way, I owned an RS6 for a couple of years and its two biggest failings are the "positives" you have pointed out above:

1. SUSPENSION: had the DRC changed three times, all thankfully under warranty. I pity the owners with their cars out of warranty. The suspension is putting a lot of people off buying these second-hand. Perhaps you've not seen the owners' poll on DRC suspension problems on rs246.com?
RS246.com :: View topic - DRC Survey

2. RIDE QUALITY: you must drive go-karts for a living if the RS6 has the best ride comfort of a car you've driven... truely.

The RS6 is a very good car but to be honest, looking back on two years of ownership, it is all about its engine - which is amazing (and sounds it too). The rest is mediocre. Numb as anything and understeers like a pig. The maintenance costs are laughable and the depreciation cost me... ehm.. let's just say a lot.

Saying all that I don't regret purchasing it.

Anyone see the article on one of those supercar clubs in Evo?

They were shocked at how much the RS6 cost to run, and this was alongside 911s, Ferraris and Lambos!

My dads mate has an RS4 and that is literally falling to bits, so many problems and Audi cannot sort it, they have loaned him another one with a much lower spec to his and its apparently 10 times the car his was, none of the problems, bizarre.

These cars are very very quick but my mate had one and it drinks fuel by the bucket load, they make Scoobs look economical, but if you can afford it then why not.He got rid of his and now runs a tuned VW Phaeton as his company car.

The RS4 is a very good car in both guises, he must be very unlucky.

Audi have offered a good deal on a brand new RS4 so the Lemon one is going, its kind of ironic that my uncle picked up an MG ZT V8 around the same time which has been a paragon of reliability.

Good god man, take off the Audi tinted glasses. I gave a honest opinion of
the car I drove. Pretty sure you were not there so what wtf do you know about the car I drove.

Build qualtiy was shocking, fact. It felt cheap and rattled, fact. Now if you re-read my review, you will see that I said this was very different from my intial expectations, but that's the way it was. You will also noticed that i said I was pretty sure that I drove was a lemon, and that i doubt this is typical of the RS6, but I can only call it as I see it.

At no point did I compare the build quality to that of a Scooby / Evo, I did however compare the harshness of the ride. So don't feel as if you need to let facts get in the way of your 'AudiLover' type drivel.

I must assume that you don't bother test driving cars, a couple a magazine features on how good the technology in the suspension must be enough for you. Are you honestly telling me that I should base my car purchase on research instead of a test drive!

Just had a 40K Q7 delivered last friday, so don't come on here giving it the billy big bananas, you are new here, take a deep breath, relax, think and read before you type. Unless of course you are just here to troll, in which case, carry on regardless.

I had a MY03 2.5TDI SE Avant - by the sounds of it, the best A6 of that era to have - reasonable power, reasonable comfort, reasonably versatile, reasonable handling, reasonable servicing and reasonable dealers. A very reasonable car, and about £13k-£15k
