Here's a couple of pics of my old STi V5:

Looks slightly different to the one in the original post? Mine was on a V plate too.

So what year is this car really then? the production end of v4 should give some idea that it's not a 2000 V plate. so basicly you are paying through the nose for a car thats been registered late that on the right plate would cost 2 grand less. oh well..i bet that delaers rubbing his hands!

Its a V4: its probably a late registration. That is a MY98 car that wasnt used in Japan until 2000. This isnt particularly uncommon; Ive 'had' a CD9a Lancer (a very late 1993 build) Evolution that registered on a 1996 'P' plate. Its when the car is first used in japan that dictates the registration prefix, not the year of manufacture.

I've just highlighted what price this car sold for, and I did mention it did have 'history'. What a car is advertised for and what it sells for are two different things. Anyone who pays 9k for the original car stated is a mug, in fact anywhere near 9k. FFS if you look hard enough you could get a P1 for that.

I'd expect to pay no more than 6 grand for a 4 door sti version 4, and probably get a good one for much less than that. Some people on here have a totally unrealistic value of what their car is worth. Just check out some of the Imprezas on this board that have been around for several months for sale.

You are paying too much for the car. Period.

No you're not, you are giving your car worth £7250 plus £1400 in cash. Your car is trade money so one would hazard a guess it's worth more than that on the private market. It may owe you only 4k, my car owes me nothing but your not getting that for nothing!

I can't understand why you want to voluntarily take your pants down, bend over and take it up the chocolate tunnel Just wait, sell yours privately and find an enthusiast owned car on here.

Other posters have suggested 5-7k depending on condition, even if it's a nice example it's worth less than your Lexus!!

Read this months EVO magazine and read their thoughts on the RB5 - one of the best performance cars for sub £10k you can buy

However also look at IPalmers STI5 as that is a real beauty

Always sell your car privately. This frees you to purchase privately yourself rather than tying yourself to a p/xing dealer. At least advertise your car in the Autotrader etc for a few weeks and try and get £500 quid more than your px price and see what happens. If it doesn't sell all you've lost is a couple of quid advertising (online on autotrader is less than £20 for 2 weeks IIRC).

There are loads of Imprezas around for sale, and just cause you've seen one you like it doesn't mean to say there's not better elsewhere. 9k is a massive ask for this car, and as above there are plenty about for much less than this. You'll literally lose about 4k on this car simply driving away from the garage!

Looks bad on me as if i've been wasting his time, but i've taken what you's have said on board. Yes its a nice clean car, but i'd be loosing out to much.

Right, now post your car up for sale in General, get it in auto trader and browse the for sale area.

You made the right decision.

Just point out to him why you changed your mind.
It IS a V4, NOT A V5.

Definately false advertising. Print out some of the pictures that people have posted, especially one of the interior and engine.
The registration number means diddley squat, as GC8 said.
You WILL get your money back if you go armed with some evidence!
