Sky Broadband, do i or don't i?
wouldnt bother pinging, just open a browser and type in 192.168.0.1 and this should bring the router configuration page up. Before that though, has your line actually been activated yet? usually it is a few days after receiving the router, and from what you have said about the earlier **** ups it wouldnt surprise me if it isnt activated. Check for the adsl signal on the router, also check for correct connection of filters etc.
You could try
Prodigy Networks and see if that has you line as activated (can do that from work)

ive had no problems with it, however I am due to be disconnected on the 5th as I am moving houseat the end of jan, however the new house is only 700metres from the exchange so I should be able to get well over 10mb

I must put a mental note to check distance to exchange next time
Makes me want to bin bt, now that I must be near the end of my first 12 months with them. Changing to sky should save me £15 per month.
Do they charge to £10 per month if you are on their full tv packages?
Thanks

Strange, I switched over to Sky's Broadband Connect whilst waiting for the LLU on my exchange. I'm sure I was told it was £17.99 a month (for connect) yet I've just looked on Sky's website and after doing an availability check on my number...
Now I'm gonna be pretty pee'd off if I'm paying £17.99

Im gutted, should have been disconnected on the 05/01/07 however it is still on
however I move this friday and sky said there wont be a charge
Still as fast as ever and reliable (not using the sky supplied router though)
not really, but on any property we viewed I checked the distance to the exchange without the missus knowing and then "discounted houses" that were more than 1.5 Kilometres away, sad I know but once you have had fast broadband, you dont want to go slower

Have to admit it is still fast and reliable. Haven't noticed any down-time at all and it was on virtually all weekend and most evenings.
I wasn't getting much of a download speed at first but after an email to Sky and a phonecall from their technical department I made a few changes and it is now running at a steady 4.1MB download.
I think that is pretty good considering my exchange is quite a distance away and only capable of kicking out 4.5MB Max.

I have just been offered this by SKY - is it essential to have a BT line too?
What downtime did you experience guys - switching from one Broadband provide to another. I suffered a month with no internet access last time which was very frustrating.
Will I have a mare setting up my Netgear modem router with it do you reckon? I always get there but dont have days to spend on getting the right data, addresses and passwords from SKY customer support [on an 0870 number no doubt!]
Cheers

about 8 hours total. Some have had longer though.
Yes you need a BT line still
Modem should be plug & play. No username/passwords required as they are flashed into the firmware. Wireless SSID and password is on the back of the router.
My old man managed to get his running with no panicky phonecalls, so it is idiot-proof

Their online email appears to be very unreliable but works perfectly with POP. I haven't had a single occurance yet where it hasn't connected first time which is more than I could say for my Wanadoo broadband!
