I must admit that i would have expected a slightly more professional and reasoned response from a reseller of performance cars... bearing in mind that your advice generally is more likely to be taken on board and trusted.

The UK cars are far from 'sh! t' - infact you may argue that they suit the UK road and conditions slightly better (what a suprise!!) than a JDM with the exception of the 'Twinscroll Turbo' setup. My opinion is that i much prefer the longer ratios my UK STi offers when crusing down the motorway (allows the engine to idle lower = lower fuel consumption)... where as generally a JDM will be sitting another 1-2k up the rev range in top gear and feels more frantic cruising at 70MPH.

I also prefer the steering rack in the UK as on any stetch of long straight road i find the JDM a little twitchy..

Obviously these arent issues in Japan, which is why the cars have these over there.

I will agree the Rear Washwipe and the Twinscroll would be nice on a UK, but the fact it doesnt have these makes it still... far from 'sh! t'.

With regards to the Spec C, this is a JDM only car and has a variety of weight saving modifications/setup tweaks made to make it a very good track weapon... it also comes with a Black interior as opposed to a Black/Blue like the standard STi (JDM or UK).

The EVO on the other hand is a different beast, both cars essentially acheive the same goal in much different ways... like for like very little seperates them... but it is nice that you can get a higher performance EVO off the forecourt instead of having to go to 3rd parties like you do with the Impreza.

Its all down to personal taste, i personally dont like the interior of the EVO hence why i bought an Impreza and i didnt like the twitchy feeling/short ratio's of the JDM which is why i bought a UK spec.

Hope this helps, and regardless of choice i think they will both make you smile from ear to ear from the moment you turn the key on and then off again.

WOW! Very useful advise - Cheers all!

Guess I better get my butt in some and try them out.
When I got the Golf, I wanted a big block N/A motor but I think small block turbo is the way forward now turbo lag is almost resigned to the history books (apart from in the FQ400!)

Always liked Scoobies but become rather interested in the Evo FQ series of cars, especially the FQ360.

I prefer the look of the Scooby and the interior but the Evos are quicker and seem more sorted chassis wise at the moment.

If it was second hand (not sure yet) it would be official UK import only so a WR1 Scooby or FQ340 (or 320) Evo.

Any advise? Let battle commence...
Is car crime still bad in Bristol Matteeboy?

What size board do you have, unless you saw it in half you wont fit anything over 7ft in a scoob unless you get a wagon

No point asking this question on here as you'll get everyone coming out of the woodwork with their two pennith. Which is boring because it will end up with the spec-c camp banging on about how much better the spec-c is than any other car

Go to a mitsi dealer and drive a mitsi. Then go to a Subaru dealer and drive a scoob. After driving decide which one you like better. Then buy it!!

Getting so bored of these scoob vrs evo threads though aren't you??? The evo is a better all round car and will eat a scooby for breakfast ... it boils down to the look. If you are chosing between these cars on a mechanical basis only you would need you head examined if you choose a scooby.

My comment was despite this being a impreza forum that the comments had been fairly balanced.

The poster should go to MLR to seek their opinions, even if it is to browse and not necessarily post the same entitled topic..

I would personally recommend that all people visit the site and have a giggle at how a majority of people on the side deride the scooby and it's owners...
The obvious bit was that if you ask the question on here you will get the majority reply of Scooby. You ask the same question on MLR (which I have been a member for about 18 months) and the probably majority would be Evo!

Really???

Then I guess you haven't seen any of the 'Best of Motoring' vids that are doing the rounds where the JDM Scoob always beats the Evo.

Evo's are only better than UKDM Scoobs IMO.

Which is quicker around the 'Ring mate?

I believe it's a Spec C

And yes, OK, the Spec C is a more focused car than the normal STI but hey, it's a Scoob nonetheless

Do a google search for reviews and videos, then make the comparissons of the exact models of each you are interested in. You may find the evo always comes out on top.

People will always say "this tuned Subaru or JDM will beat this evo" but its a shame that you live England (not Japan) and the Imprezas just get eaten by the cars that Mitsubishi put out.

Forget about the Mr 400, what will beat the MR FQ 320 and 340?

As for looks, so people prefer the Imprezas roundness and some prefer the harder looks of the Evo, the Subaru does sound better by far and may be better inside but another fact is that ITS SLOWER and far more common.

Pros for the Impreza:

Looks better?
Sounds better
Better inerior
Cheaper to run

Cons:
Looks?
Performance, its slower than the Evo
Chav appeal and people look down on you, especially Evo owners, (usually laughing)

Below is a video that many will ahve seen of the STi Wr1 v the Evo 8 320 around top gears track and its fair to say the Evo teaches it a lesson. There is also another one on Youtube where they drag race them and again its embarrasing for the Impreza.

YouTube - Top Gear- WRX STI vs. EVO VIII

I said this would happen and it has.

So what your saying is if you want the offerings of the Impreza but the faster car too you have to either go to Japan/have one imported or tune your UK inadequate car up?

Seems like one hell of a heap of hassle just to match or beat an evo.

What about the new RB320 against the evo MR 320, would that be fair? What about the RB320, Sti, Wr1 or spec d against the MR 300, What would win?

Most people dont want JDM cars.

yep, agreed, a move from Impreza to an Evo is seen as a progression for many EVO owners
and they are so comparably easy to get up to 400bhp

and modding is generally cheaper

and they have been fitted with twin scrolls since Version VI (AFAIK) so they have better real world performance as well

All good comments but based on somebody elses facts. I have the pleasure of driving evo's regularly and also the distinct pleasure of owning an array of high performance scoobs - including a wr1. From this I can assure you that the Evo is the better car in terms of performance and handling. For look the scoob wins but that is about all! Forget about all the cr@p about the spec-c being the best car in the world. My WR1 ripped one to peices and I've seen a certain one be made to look like it was going backwards by an evo. So that kinds of puts the myth that the JDM spec c beats any UK scoob and evos.

If you are after an evo vrs scoob driving experience PM me and I'll put you onto someone who can arrange for you. After that at least you'll have a nice amount of facts with which to make your decision over which one is better.

Why buy either? Both are far too heavy japanese boxes that cost a fortune in brakes and tyres if you use them properly.

loler these threads are always funny. Anyone who has a Scooby can just tune it to go alot better! I have my scooby now tuned to 350+ bhp (last dyno 355bhp (cold air aps, miltek, powerstation remap, fuel pump upgrade and aps intercooler), AP 6 Pot, Handling sorted and it looks a lot better than an Evo and I regularly slap Evo's but my car is less to run, quieter, lot less twitchy (yes have owned an Evo (7) and my wife currently has the Airtrek) and much better daily driver. If I wanted a car more for the track it wouldn't be an Evo it would be a caterham or Ariel Atom (a lot faster and cheaper too!). So less of this Evo better on the track, if you want a track car get a very good one like the above and use the Scoob as the ideal (price, performance) everyday performance car!

What if the Evo owner tunes his though? Will you cry and say you can't do that because its not the same figures any more? The truth is you had to do all that just so you can say you can beat an FQ300 or so. Something you couldn't do before.

Would you beat an MRFQ340 or 400? No so again out of the box the Evos are faster.

As someone asked about EVo v Impreza it would be silly to Recommend the Impreza on performance because you have to spend and have all this work done to match it.

Its a fact that performance wise on Road or track the Impreza gets embarrased by most of the evos.

If I'm reading this right, it's not really a question of Evo or Scooby, because it needs to fit a 6 foot plus surfboard in the back? So it's wagon vs wagon. I'd say you're looking at a Legnum VR4 or a Scoob wagon. The new Evo wagon is now out in Japan, but it's ugly. Or just get a Hilux pickup, whack a lift kit, chrome bars, roof mounted spot lights and big balloon tyres on it and hey presto, what a surf machine!

LOL! The surfboard thing isn't a big issue - We've got three surfboards and three people in a Fiat 126 before!
Until the Astra, I've always had hatchbacks. It's just easier in a bigger car.
And with surfing, it's all about stealth - NO stickers, NO roofracks, just boards in the car.

Interesting comments though - I'll have to get myself a drive in both (easier said than down down here) and evaluate.

Several test drives I've had over the years have blown my expectations out of the water - Some much better than expected, some far worse.

You can't beat a proper test drive!

i think the interior in the evo's is much better than the scooby, and the sound system is alot better too, they both look good on the outside, i went for a sti because of the frequent servicing of the evo, still happy with my scooby though...

Its great to defend our Scoobs, they ARE great cars but we have to give credit when it's due. The Evo's are in another league I'm afraid based on standard versus standard, we should really be applauding both, they are so much quicker than the rest of the compitition. I love my Scoob it's pushes out 363bhp and 340lb/ft but I couldn't get away from a standard EVO 6 the other day, he couldn't get past but he held with me all through the gears, I hope he was really trying cos I was.
