An RB5 is one of the few classics that is just right. I think the saloon shape is too common and lairy nowadays (I'm a wagon driver btw) but I would still have an RB5 - it was the ultimate reasonably priced UK classic, I'd say.

When I was looking to buy a scoob it was between the P1 and RB5.

After much consideration, the RB5 seemed to offer the most as an overall package.

I did opt for the WR Sport version tho'

It might not be the quickest classic out there, but for me that isn't everything.

Here's a piccy of mine....

Rear bulk head stiffener, that's a laugh.
It always was just a bit of MFI wardrobe backing.

It's a wrx with different paint and decals.

No more so than any other strut brace. It's a steel square section bar which has strength in both compression and tension. At a guestimate it would hold 3-400kgs in compression and around 800-1000kgs in tension. Just because it's flimsy in a directin it's not supposed to take force doesn't make it useless.

If the chassis flexes in that location I don't know. Someones seen fit to have it installed there at the loss of folding rear seats so you have to wonder.

So value for money, are you better off buying a UK Turbo with ppp and some MDF from Homebase?

Do what you like with your MDF, that's not what I was talking about

I have strut braces coming out my ears on my car, can't say i've noticed the slightest difference by fitting any of them.

The fact remains that they are strong in regards to the forces they're designed to take. Whether they get loaded up or not I don't know.

Value for money wise you're always better getting an RB5, because they are just way cooler than any other impreza

Worth far more than the sum of it's parts, though a white my99 uk ppp would also be right up there

That's probably the funniest thing I've ever seen on Scoobynet.

As for the guy who choose an RB5 over a P1 because it offered the most as an overall package, I can only think you have kids and need 4 doors.

I find magazines are more about good story telling than accurate reviews. Those writing the reviews will often have a lot less experience of Scoobs & Evos than the members here, but they can write an interesting article. When I was in the market for my scoob, I liked the article in Performance Car, comparing the 22B to the new 911. It was a fun read, but no more than that. It had hardly anything to do with fact.

When you get a genuine racing driver to do several laps around a track in two scoobs, you should get a fair review of their track performance. A good review of their road performance is harder to do.
