Just had occasion to pop out for a loaf of bread, etc. to the ASDA just round the corner from me...
...blummin' great queue of folk in the 'Entertainment' section all sadly queuing for a Wii. Overhearing one ASDA employee to another: "They were here from before 7... Should at least give 'em a few more chairs, poor things. Not exactly any professional people or office workers there though is there?"
You're telling me love.... Now, I know ASDA attracts the lower end of the socio-economic scale - but this lot all looked like they should be in a DHSS queue and not a queue to part with a couple of hundred quid each. Many of them would have done better to have spent a few quid (in ASDA) on some better clothes, and most a few more on a hair-cut or at least a bottle of shampoo and a bar of soap.
My £1.47 loaf of Organic bread and I made a hasty retreat - via the self-service checkout so as not to have to contend with more of the above, working there, pseudo-communicating with me at the checkout.
I think I'll go for a drive around tomorrow and see if I can find a Wii anyway... just for fun.

Nintendo have only shipped part of the promised stock of Wii Accessories to all retailers within the UK. Due to this, we have only received part of our allocation. We are led to believe by Nintendo that we will receive all stock in time for pre-Christmas delivery. Please accept our apologies for this delay
Console's here though
Kbsub,
From what I understood they hadnt shipped any cables!
I had my missus queuing at Woolworths this morning trying to get me one....... she aint happy with you!

The importer I use should be getting some US ones in of Tuesday, so I will ring then.... fingers crossed.

I would say quite the opposite to your statement.
For me the Wii is not aimed at proper console gamers at all. Nintendo realise they lose the console war in every recent generation so they have targeted non gamers. The controller is definately a gimmick which, for me, I would be bored of in days. Also for the record I would be very surprised if Nintendo didnt finish 3rd on sales again this gen too.
Who cares what its aimed at ? From what I've read people of all ages up an down the country are having loads of fun with it . , Maybe Its not for some nerdy pixel peeping 18 year old , Its for everyone
As for it being a gimmick ,only time will tell , but at least its different
