Which I would do to you if you didn't report it and the dog then killed / maimed a kid of mine.

get a grip man and dont be so melo-dramatic
perhaps you should appear in your local panto as 'the big ****' you bloody drama queen
Lord Shrek...another keyboard warrior watching too much rambo 'the dog drew first blood'
**UPDATE**
Sadly, it seems there has been a number of complaints made about this dog, according to the Dog Warden of the MIL's local council (Croydon). It's been reported for attacking other dogs, and it bit another dog owner in April this year.
I don't quite know what this means for the dog, but can guess it won't be good news.
MIL also told me that when she reported it, she did it annonymously as she's concerned about potential come back on her if the dog is destroyed

Looks like Shrek and Gimpo must be in charge of the dog wardens dept in Croydon.
Lets wait for a death before we do anything about it - then we can all blame th irresponsible owners and lack of action from the community
.
Let's not forget that the kid that was killed a couple of months ago involved a dog that was well known for attacking people.

.Mind you - this sad case also shows what a waste of time it is actually reporting these things - it would appear that the dog actually has to kill someone before anything is actually done.
Maybe we should take a baseball bat to any agressive dogs we see - clearly the councils take attacks very seriously

This latest attack is tragic, no question, but if you give uneducated "chavs" the right to have anything dangerous then bad things will happen.
Whether thats a "pit bull" (christ, its a fighting dog for ***** sake
) or a kitchen utensil, the same **** happens time and time again. Its just Darwin's theory being proven time, and time again.
What we need to do is ban stupid people, then this sort of thing wouldn't happen at all.....

You know that I would have the Chavs put down before any dogs are put down - but that aint likely to happen.
If a "Dangerous" dog attacks someone then it needs putting down - It aint the Dog's fault but then who said a dogs life was fair !
Setting up "dog councils" to review cases etc only puts off the inevitable. The first thing that should happen when a dog attacks someone is the owner should be issued with a "If your dog attacks anything else you're going down for a minimum of 5 years" order.
Problem solved.

This recent tragedy is unrelated to the original thread - if your dog dislikes other dogs, you should have it on a lead and keep it away from other dogs. So the owner was at fault. MIL was bitten by accident, the dog didn't attack her, so no blame to dog. This recent story involves an apparently illegal breed attacking a child for no apparent reason. Yes dog was rightly destroyed and hopefully the owner will be hauled through the courts.

Unless, of course, said dog owner was speeding at the time...

It's been reported that this dog had attacked another Dog AND one of the guy's neighbours before going on to kill a child.
Which is certainly the point I and others had been making.
You ignore the warning signs of devil dogs at your peril !
Don't forget - the girls nanny is still in hospital having been attacked by the dog.
It sounds very similar to the original post of a apparent dog lover getting mauled by a dog they know and has attacked others previously !

As I said before - all the dog loving chavs will defend individual dogs until it kills someone
