Mother-in-law attacked by a dog

Think before you generalise. I appreciate that Staffies seem to attract a lot of the scum of society but that only accounts for a small percentage of owners.

Although a majority of the staffy owners around here ARE scum
**Huhuhu, look at me and my well 'ard dog, don't *** neer me or a'll 'av yer**
Obviously, not all owners are like that though - thank God!

Sorry about the pain and distress but it did put me in mind of this,
A man was walking back home when he noticed a most unusual funeral procession approaching the nearby cemetery.
A long black hearse was followed by a second long black hearse about 50 feet behind. Behind the second hearse was a solitary man walking with a dog. Behind that were 200 men walking in a single file.
He respectfully approached the man walking with the dog and said, "I am so sorry for your loss, and I know now is a bad time to disturb you, but I've never seen a funeral procession like this. Whose funeral is it?"
The man replied, "Well, that first hearse is for my wife. My dog attacked and killed her."
He inquired further, "Well, who is in the second hearse?"
The man answered, "My mother-in-law. She was trying to help my wife when the dog turned on her."
After a moment of silence he asked, "Can I borrow the dog?"
The man with the dog replied,
"Get in line."

the very fact that this Staffy has bitten her should result in the dog being put down. The owner should also be taken to task over not being able to control the animal and doing a runner.
I say this as a dog owner myself, and as much as my two dogs are a major part of my life, if they ever attacked/bit somebody, they would be destroyed.

I am a dog lover but if one of my dogs bit any one I would have to consider having it put down. You need to be able to rely on your dogs, if they cant be trusted to the point where they bite some one then it would be hard decision to make. At least you would have them muzzled in public. But if you have kids, could you ever be comfortable?

dog should be found and put down - the MIL wasnt walking the dog in an area signed posted "dog attacks likely"....its the UK, not the fukin jungle...there should be no need to get attacked by animals on a day out.
i had a bull terrier and like most similar breeds it hated other dogs - so it was NEVER walked with other dogs - it was walked at 6am and always on a harness and lead - if it ever had escaped and started a fight that resulted in someone getting bit i would have had it put down.
i would NEVER have another, stupid idea for a dog. when there are so many breeds out there why have one thats such a liability.....my current dogs dont even HAVE a lead they are so easy to look after and they certainly have no chance of getting in a fight.
its a pity the MIL wasnt better equiped to deal with the situation but to blame her for defending her dog is stupid - if a dog attacked mine i WOULD step in...with my size 12 to its head.......the owner wouldnt need to bother having it put down after that.

i was walking Mrs shreks parents lab once upon a time and a little cross west highland 'ankle snapper' decided to 'face hugger alien style' itself onto our our labrador
i stupidly intervened to try and pull the ankle snapper from the labradors face and i my finger got torn open and needed stitches
im sure they would have sorted it out dog style in the end....the westie was just playing silly buggers
there were no cries of 'put it down' 'get the dog warden' etc etc from myself
it wasnt a vicious unprovoked attack that required extensive plastic surgery in the US
**** happens.....ive been bit by accident by my little rescue cross ankle snapper when shes been playing with me...no cries of 'put it down' and 'fetch the dog warden' and 'call the police'
i have every sympathy with your mother-in-law for getting bit but she must know never to come in between a staff and a german shepherd playing silly buggers
Lord Shrek......perhaps human beings should be put down every time they start

I think if i was fighting a another human and a woman intervined, and I bit a chunk out of her would I not at least expect to "go down" for a while, at HMP hotel?
There is no excuse for what this animal did, at the least it should be muzzeled, Dogs are animals by nature and ANY animal when threatend will eithier fight or flight depending on situation.

I'm not talking about this incident in question but honest to god the way some owners think that a snarl between two dogs is some sign of a ferocious attack is quite pathetic. Obviously alot of you on here are 'weekend walkers'or 'when the weathers nice.'

I got my finger gored by a Westie, picking the little get up to get it out of the way of a car, it also had a go at our 4 year old, luckily just got clothese not skin. The owners were round the other day and were all upset that it had been given a seeing to by a Labdrador, I can't say I was all that concerned for its welfare, obnoxious little turd that it is.

rhino man sounds like another weak individual who quite obviously has never really understood dog behaviour and does not know how to handle them properly
he probably got the bull terrier for christmas to hang out at the local shopping precinct...be the big man in front of all his mates
also to ward off any chavs coming onto his missus as she pushes the pram past domino pizza
walking with the 'big man chav' harness and at the crack of dawn with no socialisation with other dogs....wtf.......why the *** get the breed in the first place if you are going to do that???????
Lord Shrek.....some dog owners just dont get it
Glad she reported it, the owner obviously is grossly irresponsible and deserves to be castigated for his actions too.

aye quite clearly the snug rhino really doesn't have a clue....he cannot socialise his dog or else it wouldnnt be on a harness and having to be walked on the graveyard shift like bill sykes on the job
its all down to the owner
Lord Shrek....some people should stick to hamsters

Thanks for the good wishes on the MIL - she's apparently still in shock (not surprising I guess) but feeling better.
She's been a doggy person for at least 40 years, and had German Shepherds for the whole time, so does know what to expect with dogs (probably why she didn't want to report it originally).
Unfortunately, she lives on the edge of a 'dodgy' housing estate (she's been there years, the housing estate is relatively new) and she's often commented on the amount of new dogs and "chav" owners which seem to frequent the park near her house. Whenever I'm over at her house and take Beth out for a walk, she always offers me a can of Stella, to "fit in with some of the other dog owners"!!!!
Anyway, haven't found out what's going to happen as a result of the report but will update this thread when I know.

you can tell you haven't owned a dog before, the dogs were fighting over a ball, this happens they'll fight over all sorts of stuff but this wasn't plain agression at the other dog it was over the ball. The mother in law got bitten because she put her hands in to stop the fight.
