To be honest though, I dont really see the point in this, I got straight onto my own insurance and started to build up my ncb, just think one day your going to have to insure a car under your own name, and you will have no ncb and have to start again anyway !

 

fair enough, but I cannot see any insurance company cracking onto detective work by asking neighbours etc. especially not for a subaru. Maybe a £120k bentley, but not a 10k subaru.

At the end of the day, it depends on how much you fight it, you could keep fighting it day in day out, and eventually, the insurance company would lose because there is no solid proof, only word of mouth etc. It would be a long way, but they would lose and the policy holder would win the battle and be paid out.

The point is that you can insure amazing cars while you dont have to worry about other expenses like houses/bills/etc. and you can enjoy your life with an awesome car so young - then sell it when you come to buy a house and youve got a nice deposit ready for it! Will probably move out 21/22 so by then I will have 4/5 years driving experiance which will bring my insurance down a fair whack, I will obviously pay the price but its worth it because I will have had all the fun early on!

 

I am only 21 and i think it is fair to say i have had my fun pretty 'early on' selling the scooby next summer to save for a house ! then will get another one once i have saved some money!

either way works, but i just feel better on my own insurance !

ahh sweet m8 I know what you mean about ur own insurance, but I just cant afford that on the cars I want, its like 30% of the price on my mums!

 

dude - it's not the value of the car that bothers them really - it's the risk of the damage and pain that may be caused to OTHERS. third party damages are by far the most expensive element in most claims I would have thought.

Thats why it costs an 18 year old more to insure a 1989 classic mini 1000 than is does me to insure my Sti. (my son is my example here = him about £890 TPF&T, me only £640 f/c protected ncb, 2 drivers, 1986 STi version 3 jap import)

The risk of third party injury is far higher with the younger driver - full stop - and it gets even worse with loads of power to accompany the ego and lack of experience we ALL had/have at 18... I remember it rather well actually - and I only had an old 850 mini LOL

So, my point it - yes, they wil go to all that trouble if they are faced with a big third party calim.

He shoud get his own NCB built up first....

I love such a naive approach.

Picture this in your 10k scooby - On that one occasion on your private road that is so discussed by many you happen to put your foot down. Alas on your private road there are other road users.

You hit a car which in turn hits another - some of the passengers get away whilst others are crippled. You seriously think they are not going to worry about your 10k car then when they are face with loss of earnings claims, disability claims, possilble emotional losses.

I wish people like you could really see how bothered an insurance company is about a car which "only" cost 10k.They will investigate this to the last letter - as for if you put enough pressure on the insurance company they will buckle - speak to me on the phone and see if i buckle when your crying your cars dented.

I pray you never have a claim repudiated and have to foot a bill to the above yourself.

I see your point, but thats a hell of a lot of if's and but's. I hope to god it never happens, not just for my sake, but for everyone else's who would be involved aswell.

The insurance company will pay out on a claim like that, and they will not be picky to look who the main driver is etc.

The policey insures 2 drivers, I am just one of them, therefore, covered by insurance

 

Dont get me wrong fella - i'm not saying they will never pay out - its just something which is becoming more looked out for (fronted risks)

Anyway short of releasing the boredom of the insurance times on you that i have to read through i will shut up as that would be a punishment for you

 

The exception always proves the rule as my Mum has a STi
