drb5,
The build quality seems fine to me..... but i'm not sure I'm struck on the plasticky sliver facing of the DVD drive on this 60gb version. A note worth making is that no major problems seem to exist, and certainly nothing that can and hopefully be fixed via firmware updates.
The on/off and DVD eject are very snazzy..... instead of a button it must have a photocell or something, as no button exists and you just hold your finger over the markings.
As regards to value for money......
At the RRP over here which is rumoured to be around £425 for the 60gb version, which is £145 more than the 360......
You are getting a much bigger HD
Wireless Connection built in
Wireless Controller charges via USB
Blu-Ray
Whilst it is still not cheap, I think what you get for your money makes it very good value (just the Blu-Ray alone is worth more than that).
Iain,
The first thing my mrs said was "Ooooo.... that looks smart".... not that means anything!

Shaun.

Bah.....
I was doing some comparisons on various screens last night of RR6 on the 360, only to move the 360 whilst the disc was in and it scratched it to hell and back.
What a gimp I am...... good job it wasnt a new game!

I just wish that it was easier to decide which was superior, to me it seems like people are clutching at straws which causes the debate to rumble on.
Have to give credit to MS for getting theirs to market and mature before we can even buy a PS3 without having to resort to 'sources', I reckon next June before there are reliable supplies of PS3's available in the UK.

J4CKO,
I don't think you will have any clear winner in terms of what the box's can actually do. As always the software will decide which one becomes the winner, but in all honesty MS and SONY both have a good line-up.... so whilst I expect one version to outsell the other I doubt the difference in %'s will be that drastic.
The 360's earlier launch has helped it, but then the already installed PS customer base will help Sony.

From what I've read, and having no first hand experience of either console as I'm still debating the merits, the two machines are comparable in ability. The 360 appears to have some build quality / thermal issues, the PS3 hasn't been out long enough to ascertain any problems.
360 has a larger catalogue, as it's been out longer. Don't know what the scheduled release cycle is for both machines.
Then you have the wildcard Wii which appears to have excellent playability as it's main selling point.

It sounds like i've made a bad call on buying the 360. I've always been more a fan of the PS than XBOX. I think they have more a platform game orientation, than the XBOX's first person shooter.
If no-one has either, i'd suggest going for the one your most used to, as it doesn't REALLY sound as if one is better than the other.

No doubt some decent titles will appear on the PS3 in the future, but it's very early days for it at the moment. I personally wouldn't expect to see anything interesting until next xmas, by which time we'll probably also have some idea of who's going to win the blu-ray vs hd-dvd war as well. That's when I'm planning on getting one

Of course, I'l rather have both

Lol, maybe you look at it that way, because you'd rather have both then.
I said what i said, in a simple "i buy games cos i like 'em" sort of way. It's difficult to describe....
Some people will always follow XBOX, other's....the PS.
I myself was always a PS2 guy, as i never felt like there were games i wanted to play on the XBOX, therefore no reason to buy it.
Don't get me wrong, i've enjoyed the 360, but i still bring out the PS2, as it just suits my style better. I love my racing and RPG games, but PGR just doesn't do the same for me as GT. I've also NEVER got used to first person shooters. I realise i'm missing out on excellent games, but my brain-to-hand co-ordination is crap.

drb5,
Believe it or not, but I have never really been head over heels with the PS.. apart from when I first got my PS1. Playing VF on the Saturn and Ridge Racer on the PS1 when they first came out in JPN hundreds of years ago will be a thought I will never forget. For the first time it was the true arcade action in your own home.
The 360 is an awesome bit of kit and I have never regretted getting mine.
NS04,
So true I suspect!

I expect in a years time, you'll be hooked to the 360, more than the PS3 then.
Maybe i haven't taken to the 360 as much as i could have, if i was into the PC style games they have, or i didn't have as many problems with it as i have.

I must admit the 360 (when it was released) was bashed for many nights..... something I hadnt done with a console for a number of years EVERY NIGHT. I thought the PS2 was hampered by many sub-standard games and and part of me was peeved the Dreamcast had been rodgered as that is still a good bit of kit.
Oh well, things more on.... I suspect we have toi as well.
