The fact of this whole matter is, there are mother and child spaces, they are designed for mothers and children, why we should feel bad about wanting to use them is astonishing. Yes people had to 'make do' back in the day but now, in this day and age we have things provided for us to make our lives just a tiny bit easier.
I don't feel I want to hurt anyone who parks in a mother and child spot, I simply park elsewhere.
if I had a choice I'd park where there are spaces provided for me (mother and child) with abit more room to get my child out of the car without hurting him or bashing into someone elses car.
I think this topic should be locked because it aint going anywhere and people are getting irate

The problem is that the spaces should all be made bigger. By making concessions for a select part of their customers supermarkets are inadvertantly creating their own cross to bear. As in all walks of life if you make special arrangements for some it will p*ss others off. As women will allude to it's amazing what a difference a few inches can make.

in my *gulp* diesel at the moment i park in one space as its quite skinny anyway being a peugeot. but in the wider scoob whn i had it anyway, i would just deliberatley park across two spaces, neatly mind, as far away as possible from the supermarket in a corner somewhere.
people may call me selfish, but thats their peragatorive. if in a pay and display, i park in one spot and pay for it. if in a supermarket car park... or works car park... two spaces. simple theory.

I disagree also with people wanting to damage either other people or their cars about all this, it's wrong.
But i'm just saying that if these spaces are provided for me, I'll use them, not because it's closer to the shop, I'm not shy of walking, I do alot of it, but it IS easier to get a baby out of the back of a car with abit more room, it may only be abit more but it is.
I'm very tiny in size so getting my baby out of the car is a struggle anyway. but when parents need to get a car seat out, the extra room does help.
I also think spaces should be alot wider.

Car parks is where USA has it right. Angled spaces, you drive in and out easily without catching the corner of the car on others. How many times have you been waiting while someone reverses, steers, forward, reverse again etc.
Yes and make them wider.

I always park at the back of supermarket car parks, as the fat people won't walk that far and it's generally them who sling their doors wide open in order to ease their great bulk out of the seat of their loathsome Citroen Picasso or similar
On a side note though, my work car park has just (last weekend) been redesigned in order to increase the width of all the spaces. I guess this is pretty unusual in this day and age, and obviously you wouldn't find it happening in a town centre or anything... Also, apparently by law you must now allocate 5% of the parking spaces in any new/redesigned car park as 'disabled' so we now have 15 disabled spaces, despite not having a single disabled employee...
