We have compared the 5 series Oil and Petrol, we have compared the 4x4 range and the BMW is superior on all models when compared to MB and Audi. I already know the 3 series wins hands down so please explain (with links) as to where I'm a **** ?

German carmakers combine for U.S. clean diesel push

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Germany's carmakers are looking to join forces to push clean diesels in the U.S. market with the Bluetec technology developed by Mercedes-Benz and diesel injection system specialist Bosch.

Starting in 2008, Volkswagen, its premium unit Audi, BMW and Mercedes aim to launch and market Bluetec in the world's largest car market, where diesel has a market share of just 5 percent versus 50 percent in western Europe.

Spokespersons for Volkswagen and Mercedes parent DaimlerChrysler confirmed a report in German industry newspaper Automobilwoche to be published on Monday.

Aside from a quicker market penetration, the alliance is hoping to gain cost savings in purchasing the specific modules that mainly stem from Bosch, the world's largest automotive parts supplier.

Bluetec diesels fulfil the stringent U.S. emission norm Bin 5 that goes into effect in 2009.

Be graceful and admit that you were wrong. As you can see from this table audi's engines are cleaner, although BMW have made greater strides to clean up their act, but then again thats not hard seein as their engines were fairly dirty to begin with.

Whats really amusing though is that current BMW engine emissions are still not as good as the audi ones from 1997

Stop looking at the future we are talking here and now. That report is useless without knowing the basis for the figures. Is it an average of all cars sold, one of each model etc etc etc.

BMW far outsell Audi in the luxury car sector and if that report is based on sales then I'm not surprised BMW is higher but if you do a straight model to model comparison then Audi is the dirtier car..

Mercedes already sell bluetec engined cars so its not looking to the future, its proof that MB makes the cleanest diesels in the world at the moment, no ifs or buts about it.

BMW far outsell audi in the luxury car sector? How did you manage to work that out considering that 75% of luxury car buyers dont even consider a BMW, and when audi interiors are much much better than BMW ones?

Provide figures to back up your assumptions, as if you cant the data I provided stands.

I am proud to say I ditched my dreary MY05 STI for a planet friendly Honda Civic CDTI. I now cruise everywhere at 55mpg listening to the fantastic stereo and letting the DVD Sat Nav navigate me around all the traffic hot spots. I do this happy in the knowledge that all the occupants are protected by millions of airbags, great brakes with endless electronic assistance and we will never break down because it is a Honda.

And before people try and make lots of smart comments I would like to make the point that as I direct result of getting this car I am a much less angry driver. I cruise along at sensible speeds, not worrying that there is traffic everywhere stopping me from maxing out my STI. More often than not on my daily commute I will pull up behind a Porsche on the slip road having been overtaken by him 15 minutes earlier. And the price of all this wonderfullness? A 250 quid per month saving in running costs, EXCLUDING finance payments. That translates to a 5k pay rise over the full year.

A happy motorist, a happy planet and less tax for To$$er Brown. Everyone's a winner.

I too ditched the Impreza for an X5 Lower emissions, more fuel economy, less insurance, less servicing costs so everyones a winner.
