Glad you are pleased with them. what do you think of the EBC'S. do they squeal and whats the dust like?

-On another point, can i briefly hi-jack this thread to ask another. I have the opportunity to purchase a secondhand nearly new set of 4pot APs that are just less than a year old and have only done about a thousand miles. the thing is though they are apparently some kind of competition kit featuring silver/ally callipers which have "ap racing" in blue on the side. they are supposed to be the dogs but i cant find anything on the ap website about them. anybody know precisely what they are and where there might be a picture of them.

EBC cold performance - very impressive...don't even think about having to warm up the brakes

Squeal - funny you should mention this, as have just been showing someone else how good they are and they seem to squeal a tiny bit on light braking, which they didn't when brand new

Dust - not gone far enough yet, but common opinion is that it doesn't stick

Martin did the fitter smear a load of that copper paste on the back of the calipers?
I finally managed to find the calliper on the ap website (not very user friendly in my opinion). the calliper model no is CP3720 and is in the rally section. however Hoppy has just low-balled me with a great point - no duste seals apparently. Mmmm maybe i'll just go with the scoobymania special deal... but then theres the Movit/porsche GT3 kit..decisions decisions. whatever happens it aint gonna be hard to improve on my piece of s**te 4pot standards

Basically i think-yes. I am a mechanical imbecile so someone else needs to step in at this point. however a mechanic friend of mine who previously helped me to change pads did use the stuff and explained it was to stop squeal (my impression was that it lubricated the back of the pad so that with intitial brake application the slight movement of the pad did not squeal/scrape against the caliper itself. the reason it was copper was that a normal grease would boil/go off due to the v high temps generated. it was literally a case of smearing this special stuff all over the back of the pad (making v sure even the smallest amount did not get on the face) and then sliding it in.
i wait with baited breath to see if im gonna get shot down in flames on this but i think this is right

Thanks for the trail on Saturday Martin, the brakes are definitely a great improvement.

Getting back into my car has made me realise just how big the difference is (- if you want to remind yourself and how well your money was spent you're welcome to give it a try). Much better initial feel and a stronger bite. I'm sure they would fade less as well.

I wonder how they compare vs the Alcons? I'll have to ask SteveB for a run in his at the next meet. (Steve, thats a hint if you read this)

I was originally planning to have the upgrade done in the next week or so but I am getting my second car today (old BMW 3 series touring) and so have used up the motoring budget for a little while.

Just a quick point on the copper grease subject.

It's not actually really "grease". It's actually an "anti seize compound", Commonly used on parts where differing metals meet, we use it on wheel studs, a thin smear on the back of the disc where it meets the hub Etc.

Occasionally a thin smear on the back of pads can help reduce/eliminate 'squeal'.
