Question

Well here in the US of A we finally got a
decent scooby, but they seem to have left the
decent brakes at home. We get 2 pot fronts
with 289mm(11.4inch) discs. Also we have
261mm rears(10.3") what do you get on the
rear in the UK?

I'm looking to upgrade to about a 330mm
kit like a Prodrive/alcon, ap or 'other'.
This would be for 'fast road' driving,
some track events, what we call "brisk"
TSD rallies (non performance), but
no high performance tarmac rallies or
offroad. yet.

I am willing to change pads for track days.
I expect to run brake ducting.
I am thinking about compomotive or OZ
racing wheels at the moment, or perhaps
the newer Revolution RZX wheels.
I'm a bit unfamiliar with subaru fitment
at 17" and 18" and what offsets will allow
which brakes.

I see from posts here that a few folks have these. What I'm looking for is:

-Do these fit the new 01' (usa 02) wrx?
-were you happy with the pads that came with
them or have you changed, and why?
-How was the filth on the wheels after?
I see many complaints about the dust from
various pads. (3000s especially)
-Were you happy with your vendor? if you
were who was it?

I'm a bit worried about pad availability
here for the APs. Haven't seen anything
about pads. Alcon pads are orderable from
most racing parts vendors here.

I don't know anything about the Tarox
or wilwood kits, but wilwoods are quite
popular calipers here for racing.

I notice plenty of vendors around,
opinions? Customer or part troubles?
Which lines to use?
Any trouble with customer wheels choices
and heat?

fluid recommendations?
I am unfamiliar with Subaru brake systems,
but I had to change many seals to
do DOT-5 fluid on my Audis.

Anyone running fluid-recirculators for
the track?

Sorry, I know thats a lot of questions.
Just too excited! Drove a friends' P1
with the prodrive 330s last year when I
was in Sterling for a wedding. Very nice.

Cool

Hi Ed

I have only read your title to the thread and I can tell you without reading it that AP's are the way to go!

I'd agree the Alcons are excellent

However, they don't come with braided hoses - well worth paying the extra to have some fitted at the same time.

Not sure I'd agree about the DS2000 brake dust - mine generate a lot of dust that is pretty tough to get off - maybe that's just my right foot.....

Simon, you recommend DS3000 for the track - when I've enquired before I've been told this isn't really necessary, especially due to the increased wear on the discs. I must admit that I found the DS2000s pretty good round Donington - what benefits could I expect to get when using DS3000s??

Hi there
Actually I would suggest the Prodrive Alcon set-up, with this you get a kit designed specifically for the Impreza with good availability of parts. You do not need to worry about fancy fluid, recirculating, ducting or any of that other stuff. Just fit the Prodrive Alcon kit, use the DS2000 on the road and the DS3000 on the track. (possibly with a spare set of discs) All you need to remember is to change them back after and to clean your wheels. The DS2000 material does not give too much dust and what it does deposit is easy to remove from the wheels.
Cheers for now

Question

Simon,

I already have the Alcons and am happy with them but, as a matter of interest, is there any particular reason why you don't include braided hoses with the kit when everybody else seems to do so with theirs? I asked about it when I ordered the brakes from my dealer and was told that "Prodrive don't consider them necessary" but there are lots of posts on this board saying what a difference they make. I don't have an issue with this but am just curious. Thanks.

Raymond.

I was told by LAD motorsport that i only needed them on my old car if i did rallying and i may hit tree branches/rocks etc. He said all they do is make the brake lever harder in feel and dont actually do a lot on the road!! Not enough to justify the price.

However, i had them done anyway and they were great!!

Err thats the point no ?

hard pedal = better feel,
spongy pedal = difficuly to modulate ?

AP explicitly prohibit the sale of their brakes in the US, due to the product liability laws.

Simon, does your Alcon kit have US product liability?

Ed, with regard to pad availablity, FedEx for a set of pads is 48 hours and approx $30.

Scoobysport do have AP authority to sell kits in the US, but conditions apply.

Please mail me for details.

Thumbs up

(Pete thanks, I've sent you regular E-mail
as requested.)

What size wheels and offsets are required
for the AP and the Alcon kits?

Ed

I thought AP's were disributed in the US already, but they're re-badged as 'Willen' or something?
