I have done this, been flush, bought daft stuff and then regretted it later when I was skint, its amazing how a grands worth of hifi speakers seems like a good idea when you are wedged but complete folly when you aren't, plus like most stuff bought just cos you have the money its worth **** all when you come to sell it because you are skint.

I would say treat yourself to a grands worth of random stuff you fancy, perhaps a holiday if you want to spend a bit moreand that will satisfy the burning a hole in your pocket sensation, put the rest away in a 3 month account with decent interest.

Ever thought of making a charitable donation if you have spare money hanging around ? rather than blowing it of stuff you don't need.

Do you have, or plan to have kids, if so, put it away for them, first car, education, house deposit etc
Fair play - some good stuff in there

I am married, 3 kids, 1 house, 1 business - I have a 'phat' TV and sound system - 2 paid for cars worth £5k between them [at best] - a couple of grand in bonds, a grand in a trust and £750 in baby accounts for the kids.

I had no intension on blowing my £8k on ****. It is purely there to make money. I would consider a business to be honest. An on line ***** shop or something. Would keep the Mrs happy anyway

Thanks for all the advise guys, especially the Lords

Make an over payment on your mortgage that will save you thousands.

Unit trusts, shares, european property, art, Betfair...

Stick £5k in a high interest account and use £3k to have a play with some shares
