Graham, yes its a lateral turbo.

May i suggest that before you go ANY further, you try a car in your kind of environment.

You have the offer to drive Alan's, well, when mine is back working (soon) you are welcome to go out in mine, over the same stretch of road. My test route (Alan wont get in the car now when i suggest we test the car)

Graham, it uses completely standard up down pipe fittings, and comes with new gaskets, oil and water fittings.

I think you are right Steven. Also, a hillclimb track is far far away from even a country road blast.
I am trying also to consider the gearbox in all this.

I am about to recon and fit a TY 754 Type R box in the car with my current engine. (for the ratios and the strength to tolerate slicks.)
With this though about the engine next year, i cannot imagine that box taking the big torque too well ( I am a VERY sympathetic gear changer), and I'm seriously thinking about a 6 speeder now.(about £1500)

Trying not to let this snowball, but maybe I have to face the step change in doing all this properly.

Graham deep in thought.

Put your hand in your pocket and do it right.

How can you whine about catching the evo, when your sympathetically changing gear. Jesus man, its motorsport. Watch the litchfield videos, phil keen doesnt use the clutch once on up changes.

The box you are having rebuilt wont last 2 seconds with slicks if you drive it right and have the grunt your hoping for. Do the box right, now, before you go any further. IMO, that means a DOG box for what your car gets used for, they are easy enough to drive in traffic if you are sensible.

Once thats sorted, the engine will follow.

Steven

ps I have another test route here that i rarely use, but it involves roads that are unlisted, with stupidly tight hairpins, etc. The least it will do is give you and indication.

Danny, if your going to the trouble of twisting the turbo, you may as well get it done with proper Garret flanges, as that opens up a new world of turbo availability.
I dont have the need to go to a full on garrett at the moment, this engine still has standard UK internals! I want to get the FMIC fitted to the current engine hence doing the pipes this way, but im sure they could be midified in the future with garrett flanges if neccessary

Graham it does give an indication as you could bring your own car to test.

And that's a totally standard Spec-C gearbox by the way.
Flat shifting rules.
**** me that box has put up with some abuse and never put a foot wrong.
Like you say Steven, it's motorsport... No mercy.

Andy:
Easywhen it is not you that pays for the carnage!
Anyway: From the Powerstation experience the 6 speeder box is up to the job of tolerating abusive inputs from engine and driver!!
Bet Steven could snap it..

Would you change the engine mounts to polyflex or other by fitting a 2.33/2.5? Or is that only for insane cars?!

PLEASE don't start that one off again

Engine mounts are in stock, and GB mounts should be here next week.

Andy,

Don't you worry about me getting an up pipe in, it's not a problem. Unlike some people pulling their finger out

Stuart, I'll PM you a little later, but I can't guarantee the prices will be the same next year, as they are now.
