I really cannot find all the $$$ to do this engine now and get it done and ready for March.
Apart from the money to complete it, there is the running in of the engine in the winter months, where as the season finishes in late Sept which would be right for doing everything with the short block pre-prepared.....(wishful thinking!)...next year.
I do not want to miss/loose part of a season, or else I could simply give it a short sharp running in, ie to AndyF's and back.
So don't tempt me!

Surely that would stop any chances of gasket failure?
BUT: The engine will not rev like a 2.33/2.2/2.0 engine??

Graham, i cant be ar5ed running them in. The most annoying engine i had, was the one i run in
Current engine was making 450bhp at 1.1 bar after 70 miles
The best news i had recently was when Mark said, we were running in the engine for the Lateral car in a manner more to my taste It was 10pm Wednesday before TOTB, and i drove the car out onto the road. After 10 miles, we were up to 6000rpm, and some decent boost levels.
Bollocks to this, treat em nice crap.

Top thread
I'm currently running a 2.5L block and prefer the torque produced by the larger displacement. But as it's a open deck is there a company anyone would recommened to convering the block to a closed deck retrospectively using forged aluminium. I'm aware of head gasket problems with the cylinder heads moving but is this a common open deck problem or is it all down to how well the engine is built to start with?.
Thanks in advance

In my experience it is how well the engine is built. Have been running same open deck block since new (1997). Since 2000 when built to 2.15l has had at least 365whp and since then much more work done. No issues even with 1mm oversize pistons. Can run 2bar boost and nitrous and only bearing went after 30,000 klms. 14mm head studs, o-ring and copper head gaskets may help.
I have questioned this over the years but as had no problems and on advice of Rigoli in Australia have kept it open deck as bores have 4mm steel.

If there were to be a group buy started for uprated 2.33 / 2.5L internals i would be interested too. Have had the CDB sat in the garage for quite a while now

Yeah but not worth it imho.. speak to steve at smg.. Nice liners mikee..
You cant judge clearances at the top of the piston, but then they do look rather big gaps! Are they the CP Pistons?
