Its just the fact that they currently dont have a car in the same range to compare to the M3. I would take an NSX over an M3 though...
I wouldn't, I have no brand loyality and try to always be objective. I personally don't rate the NSX but I do know that if it made buisness sense for Honda to have a high powered 3.0 engine for their range of cars then it would most likely beat the output of the M3 engine - that's not to say the M3 engine is bad but rather that Honda are pretty good at building engines and the engine in the M3 started life a long time ago and has been tweeked since.

Not yet Mark - I'd rather save Supra/Skyline ownership for when (if) I have enough disposable income to really go mad with it. I don't believe they are cars you should do if you can't seriously indulge in modification.

I can't help but feel you've made a fairly uneducated attack on an entire technology without much in the way of supporting evidence. Also, what do you drive Dan?
You need to look at the total package with the M3. Refinement, built quality etc and obviously no car is without its problems. I have always found them pretty quick. John Banks wasnt sold on his M3 (why did he but it?) - but maybe he missed the point of the car or it just wasnt for him - so what? Theres plenty being sold and lots of satisfied customers. The BMW 3-series although a great car doesnt do it for me either, just tooooo boring to drive.
Im an Evo owner.

And how much did the NSX cost? Nice car yes - not worth the money though. Ive never driven one but in the flesh they look amazing.

NSX was way ahead of its time. All ally and suspension honed by Senna. 2nd hand prices are ridiculous.

If its a 300bhp (and not a single bhp more) EVO 7 or newer with no weight reduction mods I'll sign my V5 over to you for £1 if you can pass me from 3m from my rear bumper to 3m ahead of me by 140mph from a rolling 30mph start. An Evo has a strong (strongest) possibility of being my next car and all my experiences of them tell me I need an MR340 with decat, pump and remap before I'll be satisfied that it'll hammer the hell out of my S2000. A standard FQ300 is quicker but not by much and take an enternity to crawl past.....if at all

LOL. Its a 340 (which is 345 i think) but i dont spend a whole lot of time drooling over specs because I know in the real world they are very subjective. Decat and remap would see something like 380 which would be more than enough to see of an S2000.

No a 340 will see off an S2000 as standard

A decat and remap would be closer to 400bhp by my research which is why I seriously want one! (and that would see off an NSX!)

I might do that Mark but I love the looks of the MR340 and also the interior is lovely with the suede/alcantara (whatever they are) seats.

I also like the fact the MR340 would have some warranty and that you might be able to haggle them to accept the remap and decat if its done by a reputable individual...'might' At the very least you could quickly reverse them if something went pete-tong

I wouldnt go 340. You only need to chuck bits away for tuning but if the seats are youre after then so be it. Yeah 400 is possible, but always underestimate IMO. If youre going 8 remember the MR has more scope for tuning and lets face it the residuals are now so bad theres no reason why you shouldnt. You get a better car. In fact depending on your budget just go IX.

I think its a better can than the Evo 8's that were before it. Drives better, more compliant and natural and more tuning options, although for the out and out racer theres more roll in my MR than the preceeding FQ. The scoobys I have driven (although never owned one) were very nice cars. I liked the feeling of the handling and they had great grip. Nowhere near as fast though. I think its more about what suits you and not whats better. Its an endless debate with no real answer.

SB, if you ever plan to have kids, get the Supra/Skyline while you can.

I earn about 40k a year now and still have no money to waste on cars, hence why I am stuck in a bloody Saab !

I'd give the whole range the once over if I was sat there with the money to spend. At the moment it is my understanding that the 340MR allows for an genine 400bhp from limited mods as it has the MR cams. IIRC I posted a thread on this forum a few months back asking how to get 400bhp from an Evo and the consensus was that 370bhp was about all you could hope for from an FQ300 or 320 unless you started to go to more serious money.

JB advised me quite a lot on this IIRC.

By the way, I didn't always 'get' the merits of vtec I'm not afraid to admit that prior to driving (or let along owning) a vtec car I pretty much poo-poo'd the technology myself

Youll be lucky, a 330 D, it will be a diesel Megane scenic, if you are lucky.

I spent a couple of years in a Metro clubman 1.0, now that is rock bottom !

The only difference between the MR320 & 340 is a crap piggyback chip which Mitsu fit. Avoid (for all kinds of reasons). Should you want to mod, really youre looking at removing the piggyback, decat and ECUtek chip or something, which will give the same results whether you start as 320/340.

Personally id go 320 everytime. Although 340 does have a crappy sat nav system as std. But really who cares.

Having said that Evo prices are so through the floor these days the difference in cost between a 320/340 is negligible.

Whaddayaknow

I always thought that the 320bhp Evo's were a crap piggyback upgrade from the 300bhp Evo's and that the 340 had some other revisions with the 400 having significantly more including the massive turbo.

Had a Supra TT BPU(Aerotop so normal auto not tip but was still superb), Skyline GTR Stage 1, 270bhp Classic Scoob, S14a 200SX Stage 1.

The Supra fooking owned em all! The Skyline was the better drivers car and silly grip levels, but for the all round ownership experience - the Supra was phenomenal!
