Not that happy for long though!
I had an oil leak, well more of a gush to be honest! thought it was from the turbo outlet pipe (oil) but it wasn't so i guessed at t he rear crank oil seal, even though it was new on the build!
So, out came the engine off came the clutch and flywheel and i had a look, yep, the rear crank oil seal was/had been leaking like a good un, so i fixed it with another one. Or so i thought i did.
When i started it up again after refitting, it *****d out again all over the place, not fixed very well thought i albeit slightly miffed as well. So i thnks to myself, what is it, there didn't seem to be much wrong with the old crank seal and there was nothing wrong with the new one that i fitted either, so i think some more. After lots of thinking, i think that i must have out the seal in correctly because there was nothing wrong with anything else either, the other 2 things that sit behind the flywheel were sealed like a pair of Nun's knickers so it couldn't be them.
Out came the engine again, as i need to have a better look, the leak was deffo comming from the centre plain of the crank and from behind the flywheel, which would indicate the rear crank oil seal, but it was new - how could it be fubar'd already what have i done wrong i am thinking?
On inspection when in bits AGAIN, i realise that there is a lip on the new crank and the oil seal is siiting in this lip because i have pushed it all the way back untill it will not go any more, could this be the problem i think to myself, should it not go as far back as that, so i pick up the phone and ring the best in the business. Olly at RCMS put me in the right direction, Matt put the rear oil seal flush with the block only, not all the way back. So i go back out the the garage and fit another new seal but flush with the block this time and then i proceed to put it back together and refit it.
Thanks to Olly and Matt's obvious knowledge (knowledge is power don't you know) it now does not leak oil at all, which is nice. I have always worked on the philosophy that engine oil works much better on the inside of an engine as opposed to the outside where mine was.
Lesson to learn here - things are not always as simple as they seem, if in doubt consult a professional/subject matter expert who undoubtedly knows far more that you do. (and, don't push the rear crank oil seal all the way back, it only needs to be flush with the crank cases
)
An idiot with a little bit of knowledge is far more dangrous that an idiot with no knowledge at all, and as i have already stated,
i am an idiot. but i did it, it works. remap next! i'm scared!
