Powerstation wanted £2400 for their "spare" short blocks from the T25's they build, plus fitting I think ( may have been £2400 fitted ), other specialists wanted £2000 + to £6000 for rebuild.
It was a MY94 wrx wagon motor!
So a built 2.5 with other mods for around a grand is a bargain!!! Can i have one too please???

[quote=vulnax999]My rebuild, from API last year, was £550 for build/installation, £1500 for std build wrx engine, plus the VAT. So around £2400 fitted. I went for steel rods and STi4 heads, forged pistons etc. which added more to it. And this is exchange for block / heads and whatever else... with a fubarr'd block likely more expense.

Is that its ha ha, listen mate my 99 Classic is probably worth 6k tops, i paid 7k for it last November since i've replaced the short block (which was a damn sight less than a lot of prices on here) luckily for me i know someone who knows his stuff and sourced one cheap and fitted it. along with a gearbox build. all in all with just a few mods i have spent 4500 quid in less than a year.
My belief is that the botton ends are a weak link - loads have gone afaik, people buy cheap Subarus' 3k and get upset when their engines (that normally have been badly tuned) go pop and they are looking at 2k+ for a rebuild. They are a money pit unfortunately
I had an engine sourced and fitted all in for 1500 quid and i consider myself lucky - if it were me again i'd buy a 2.5 block from the states and ship it over here.
Saying that i do know someone who might be selling a 2.5 shortblock with gaskets for 1600 quid!!!

Depends what else is needed.
It's never a "fixed" price though as you always come accross different things that need replacing along the way..
If you had a "bad one" that needed a lot the bill can go up to just under the 4k mark (that's including the vat mans chunk)

You can get brand new standard 2.5 shortblocks for about 1200 to 1300
Just a quick note to say thanks for all the advice I had re this thread, car is back on the road now, in particular thanks Ninnybobs for all the help, will speak to BRD soon
I brought a second hand WRX engine (had done about 30,000 miles less than old one) and had that fitted, next thing will be to contact BRD to get some advice on mapping and a pre-ignition sensor. Also need to get an STI bonnet scoop as have an STI intercooler but original scoop, so not utilising the upgraded intercooler, didn't think about it before but common sense is gradually kicking in.......
Might think about getting the max boost pressure dropped a bit as not sure a standard WRX engine can take 1.2bar for that long.
