205 GTI (had one of these too) feels even more like it will bite your hand off. Has to be in any top 10 cars to have owned at some point.
What about the RS 200?
Lancia Delta Integrale?

Griffith/ Chimaera 500s are good looking and sounding, plus are quick in a straight line, but they don't handle, plus they are always open to their massive reliability problems. Hopefully an old one will have been sorted by it's previous owner, if you get a good one, but it's always a gamble. Certainly not a car to drive to the Alps in anyway...
Integrales / Deltas are wonderful but are also seriously fragile. I have a friend who had a series of them and then "grew up" and bought a 155 4X4 Alfa ( which was basically the same running gear) but he hated it and did the decent thing eventually by writing it off...
What about 350Zs - have they dropped enough yet to hit the £10k mark? - they're a laugh

Yup I meant 968 CS not a 964 911 (although they are also in that price bracket)
Rs200 for £15k? Show me where to sign! RS2000 maybe...

3, 4, 5, 6 are the only "drivers" cars on your list. The others may be good cars, but for one reason or another just dont quite cut the mustard. Most Convertables, FWD and 4WD cars just aren't "drivers" cars.

Just an example, but turn up at any track day in 3, 4, 5 or 6, and people will be left in no doubt that you are in a drivers car.
Turn up at a track day in any other car, and there could well be a question as to whether you are:
wearing a baseball cap
a spotty youth
gay
skint

Good list, although I'd question how good the residuals are on the Clio Trophy (nice car though).
Only outstanding non-drivers car must be the Z3M roadster. Turn it into a Z3M Coupe and I'd agree. You'd be better of getting a TVR Griffith if you want the hairy-chested medallion type car that doesn't handle.
FWIW, I'd have an Intregrale Evo 1 or UR Quattro. And how about something really different like a Renault Alpine A610?
If you are really going to do this and buy/sell the cars in quick succession, how about running a Blog so we can all read about your experiences?
Andy
PS. RX-7 maybe?

Not quite sure if that is a drivers car!! My dad had the maroon one when I was a kid (Le mans??) and although it was fast (ish) I wouldnt actually call it a drivers car. Of all the Alpines I would say the A310 with a tweak here and there.

Doh, I meant the Z3M coupe...in my defence the original list was written late at night after a long day and without too much thought into it
I've also moved them into the order I will be planning on working through the list, although the first three are interchangeable
To be fair I'll probably only get through two or three of them before finding the right GTA, but it'll be fun trying!
Revised list:
1. Integra Type R DC2
2. Porsche 968 Clubsport
3. BMW E30 M3
4. Clio Trophy
5. Elise
6. Some kind of caterfield
7. Z3M coupe
8. 106 / 205 gti
9. Evo 6 Tommi Makinen
10. 306 Rallye???[/QUOTE]

Caterham is the most pure with "proper" FR layout and light weight, great cars and wont cost you an arm and a leg to insure and will have true super car performance.
After that I think the Elise is probably the next best drivers car on there.

I guess my only concern with going for either of those at this time of the year is that I would probably pick them up fairly cheaply as summer is now pretty much over, but also that I would struggle to then sell them on again, the closer winter gets.

Used to be a rep years ago for the Local brown brothers branch and we used to deal with Dialynx now and again. I can honestly say whenever I used to call on them that generally their was a beast of quattro sat outside or being worked on.
Great guys, who perform first class repairs, conversions, restoration and ballistic missiles .
I can but dream, the old quattros truly were and still are fantastic cars if they have been looked after.

I admit I've never driven one. I guess I was just going on reviews of that era where it seemed to compare pretty favourably with both 968 and Esprit.

There's only a few FWD cars that can be considered real drivers cars.
Integra Type-R
106 GTi/Rallye
It's all well and good people reeling off random FWD cars that are quite good but when all is said and done 306s', Clios, Focus' are all excellent FWD cars but cannot be put into that league of drivers cars. I owned a GTi6, great car but not in that list of real drivers cars.
Congratulations Honda for the Integra and Peugeot for the 106 GTi !!

The only two cars I can say from personal experience that were fantastic is the 205 and 106 GTI.

Have been fortunate enough to own-drive E30 M3 .968 CS etc...
The ones I havent driven that i would love too... perhpas one day
Integra Type R
Integrale
Quattro UR
M5
Everyone bangs on about the Z3 M. Which dosn“t have too much appeal for me. But must have something. My mate over here in Germany owns BMW Merc dealerships etc...so he gets to drive everything and this is the one car he always goes on about.

More random 'good cars' being thrown into the hat.
This is an elite list. Whereby I like S2000's, Focus etc etc and so on please don't put them in all time great drivers car list please!
