Modded Uk Turbo with 317BHP

You either rant the **** out of it or the car isn't set up properly.

Just out of interest, How many of those getting rubbish MPG's have had the car's remapped??

What fuel are you using in them??? I found I would got 20-30 more miles using optimax over normal 95 ron fuel when the car was standard.
Mine was remapped in Feb this year and is a heavily modded UK turbo with 383/365 + i have a very large lead weight in my right shoe
But she's going back on the rollers soon

I can get 35mpg out of mine with motorway driving at 70mph... 25mpg around town... that is pretty good to be honest for a petrol all considered.

I had a few Mazda RX7's in last year and they averaged 7 MPG.........now that's really bad especially when you consider they are effectively only a 1300cc!!!!!!

Just got rid of my 55-plate STI because of the spectacularly crap fuel consumption. Never got above low 20s which is fine if you only do a few thousand miles a year but as an every day driver is just plain stupid. 20,000 miles a year - that'll be 5 grand in petrol for you sir. After 7800 milies it also needed new pads all-round and was a approaching a service. I know this is going to sound really boring but look at the numbers this way. Invest the cash in a buy to let property. Keep it for 10 years and then sell it and pay off the mortgage on your home. Or how about a nice holiday home abroad somewhere? Doesn't mean you have to drive a pile of crap and how often do you actually get to use all the performance these days? Must be getting old...

She's either a very crap driver or there's something wrong with the car. I averaged 60 mpg in my gt tdi Golf. Around town was always in the mid 30s plus.

Cheers Dad

If your looking at numbers then you could buy a classic for under 5k and still buy a BTL or holiday home with the money left. We all know cars are not an investment and depreciate in valve but the maximum you'll ever loose will be 5k no matter how long you keep it.
I bet you lost more than 5k when you sold your STI.
But like you say your getting old you probably have Volvo on your list of cars to consider now.
If you were self employed you could claim some of that 5 grand back

So a 25 mpg impreza around town is 'just short' off a golf gt tdi that does 47 mpg around town

On a motorway you'd get in excess of 60 mpg in a tdi Golf. I still fail to see your reasoning that it's close to someone elses impreza

tbh, any diesel pushing more than 130bhp is gonna be good for a larf.

how about a 3.0 v6 vectra diesel, add a diesel tuning green box and you'll have 220bhp and about 350ftlb of torque

Not a slanging match at all, simply pointing out that the statement does not add up.

If anybody typed in a load of misinformed and inaccurate stats then they deserve to be corrected.

I can be arsed to point out the massive difference between the numbers you posted. If you can't accept that then go elsewhere and post ill informed rubbish.

I've been around a lot longer on this BBS than August 2006.

Shame all the power / torque comes in one big surge and then is gone - it's the narrow power band rather peak output's that's the issue with diesels... great for pounding up and down the motorway though.

Reading all the previous threads would you say that a remapped scooby with full decat gets slightly more MPG for your money....Vs a standard model then, and would V power/optimax get you that little bit further ?????

Me thinks someone is either doing all their driving downhill or running extremely lean !
Either that or someone has nicked your engine and replaced it with one from a justy !

Ive just worked it out, EEEK !

Put 40 quid in last week and it lasted 150 miles. I work that out to be about 16mpg. Or am i working it out wrong?
I might add that most of the 150 miles were EXTREMELY good fun !

Nope it's not running lean - perfect AFR's and making high power for it's spec.

On the motorway it is easy to get 35mpg - just do a steady 70mph.

Around town it does vary between 20-25mpg... but that is driving it normally between just under 2,000rpm and 3,500rpm. No point driving it aggressively in built up areas...

When driving it hard it will return a much lower mpg obviously - have achieved well below 20mpg on A/B road thrashes occassionally...

I personally think Subaru's reputation for terrible economy is a bit of a myth... most petrol cars with similar power will return lower mpg or atleast the same. On Scoobynet is would appear to be bad form to admit you don't get the usual sub 20 mpg figures quoted for apparently 'normal' driving.

Also worth noting that my figures are on Shells finest, which does give you higher mpg than Tesco's 99.
