No, that isn't what I was getting at.

The bugeye owner looked like a loser 'cos he was in a bugeye

You looked like one because you were in an MG. Furthermore since I could open up a can of whupass on bugeye's in a modified diesel Golf you're an even worse loser for thinking beating one is worth talking about.

in your opinion ...............which lets face it counts for nothing at all
diesel golf hey, well theres a "REAL DRIVERS CAR " to aim for ...........well, that is if i hadnt already had one and discovered it was good for nothing but midrange power and economy.Put one on a track with an sti and you wouldnt know which way he'd gone.....................unless it was raining hard and then the golfs BOAT like handling could come in handy, unbelievable understeer on the entry and unbelievable torque steer on the exit, thats a real recipe for an iconic supercar if ever there was one.

rabid, why dont you post up a full list of all the cars you dont like, then we will all do our best not to post anything at all to do with your list of cars!

or, hang on, yes I've got it , why dont you not reply in a negative way about a car or post that has nothing to do with you, that way everyones happy ,

note, its not a bad thing for people to get along, peace and love and all that

errrm the thread starter asked for opinions of the MG, I merely stated what a lot of people assume about MG's and their drivers ie some **** who bought a cheap car 'cos he couldn't afford anything else or worse some numpty who bought an expensive car just before they went bust.

I didn't say I necessarily agree with that perception. I don't reply negatively to every post in other marques either. I just tell it like it is.

If you don't like it then feel free to ignore it.

Peace and love is for ******* hippies so I'll pass on that. I prefer vomit and violence.

You're still talking about my girlfriends ex-car?
That's a nice time of Castle Combe in a relatively underpowered road car, what do you think it proves exactly? I'm very interested to know.

You know it's sort of humiliating for you when you go on in such a desperate way about your old MG, did you spend all your money on it and this is your way of dealing with your buyers remorse?

As long as you have nothing to do with the vomit or violence after all thats what the "meat sacks" are for surely. You really are a mass of contradictions. Where as i am a mass of spelling and grammer mistakes.

No it doesn't, what it proves is that your car lapped a circuit in a certain time.

I like the way you ignored my question about 'buyers remorse', thanks for confirming my suspicions.

this has got to be some kind of wind up,either that or you really are

next track day at combe is next month ,if you think your girlfriends diesel golf can lap quicker than my mg then put your name down and ill happily make you look like the plank everyone reading this thread already knows you are.

Buyers remorse ??!!!! ....yeah your right i dread every drive incase someone thinks im a loser driving a losers car ,because i cant think for myself and my portrayed image to others is far more important to me than enjoying driving my car.........i just dont sleep at night worrying and having nightmares about the MG badge on the front of my car.

That kind of thing might bother a few "shallow" people ,mentioning no names ,but im not one of them.I would simply get rid if i had any hang ups about my car at all.

your opinion of mg's being a losers car is an opinion not shared by many others at all despite what you think,at combe in may no one thought my car was a losers car and infact everyone i spoke to was highlycomplimentary of the car and what it could do.

First may I suggest you bother reading what people have posted before commenting. The diesel Golf in question was sold almost 2 years ago. Thus use of the term 'ex'. That being the case and it never having been round the track in question we'll just have to guess what might have happened. It did manage 9 minutes ish bridge to gantry round the 'ring though.

Secondly I didn't say I thought MG's were 'loser cars' I merely stated that it's the general perception.

Thirdly thanks for confirming that you did in fact pay through the nose for your car which can now be picked up for 3 grand upwards. As I also said earlier I'd have one as a track day car but I'm too busy with my Porsches, one of the benefits of not being a pennyless MG owner.

Hey I should have added 'buyers remorse' applies to many MG drivers because of the 10K or so their car dropped in value since it was new. Not saying that applies to you necessarily but there are some funny *** posts over on www.mgloser.co.uk with muppets bitching about how they lost their yearly wage in depreciation.
Yet another reason why Rover and MG are synonymous with 'loser' in many people's minds.

You have to laugh though - in the car world, whatever car you have chosen to drive, someone, somewhere will have something negative to say. At the end of the day, if you like it, who cares what anyone else says?

Oh, and congratulations on your 1000 posts "Rabid". I know you appreciate such gestures.

I hadn't even noticed the number of posts, you do though have a point about negative or even positive comments about cars.

Some people do care though which is why they feel the need to reply when someone criticises. Here on this BBS they usually start with 'well what about Subarus" them move onto basting how fast their car is and how they did X time of whatever track as if it makes any sort of difference or proves anything other than the fact they are losers.

you assume a lot ,like the fact that i am pennyless .....i am my own boss ,i have a wife and 4 kids a BIG house ,2 cars etc etc and not a single debt in the world ,i owe no one anything ,so if i felt the need to buy another car i could quite easily.

You know what ,you are worth no more of my time as you cant stop spewing the drivvle even when your proven wrong on each point ,i am not a loser and neither are mg drivers, yes lots of people have lost lots of money when they bought mg's but i fail to see how that makes them losers, and how anyone can think himself big enough and important enough to bunch thousands of peole from all walks of life together and brand them as losers is beyond me.......................no the golf isnt faster ,no i dont suffer from buyers remorse and no i am not pennyless.
Surely a real loser is someone who is willing to stand up and call other people losers, especially over something as trivial as what car they drive
I wont post on this again ,its a pointless debate that cant be resolved ,as a stubborn child cant admit its been foolish even though he knows it himself .

A BIG house, wow, I'm- like, so like impressd. Like that's, amazing, like.

The people who lost thousands of pounds on their cars are in fact losers, that's 'kinda like the definition, man'. They lost, in this case 10K or so.

Hopefully that clears things up for you.

In the case of our ex-MKIV golf running in excess of 210bhp and allah only knows how much torque it would tear any MG other than an SV a new ******* in 'real world' conditions.

That's sad for you but at least we'll be spared more of your lackluster bleatings as you 'won't post on this again'- largely because you got your ******* *** whupped.

Particularly love how your posts have broken down as you've got owned, they are barely in English now.

Errr doesnt that pretty much make anyone who bought a new car a loser then, the moment they drive away from the forecourt?
Obviously not you of course because you will have boiught a special car that actually costs more when you drove off

Hence you being a "winner"

Depends how you define 'loser' I reckon anyone who lost 50% of the value of their car in under a year qualifies. Like some of our mgrover.org buddies.

Actually I've only ever bought 2 new cars (nearly new is the smart way of buying cars) and sold one of them at a premium after enjoying 5K miles in it. The trick is to buy the right car. For example if you'd got in at the right time you could have enjoyed free motoring in an Impreza of all things. Ridiculous isn't it?

When I bought my old Series McRae scoob back in the 90's it was 4 years old and I paid more for it than you can now buy a brand new scoob for.
Just shows how markets change.

As for the MGZT, pick up newish CDTi from a supermarket and run it for two to three years and you will loose less money than you would on some premium cars like the 3 series. You will look less of a **** as well.
Percentage loss means nothing, it's pound notes that matter.

Cheers

Oh they make sense as a second hand buy for sure, because some other sucker paid for it. Be it the taxpayer, some sap who paid 20K for a car now worth 7 or whatever. View them as a piece of disposable kit and you'll enjoy some cheap motoring.
Everyone will still assume you're a loser though.

No not everyone.

The MGZT has a better image than many other cars, Impreza, 3 Series, X5 to name just a few.

That's if your bothered about image to start with, many people have enough self confidence without the need to feel better by driving the latest in fashion car.

Not everyone, but most people. Personally I'm not bothered by image but what I don't seek to do is deny what image a car projects to other people.

Dress like a tramp and people will assume you're one. Same goes for cars.

Personally I don't believe the ZT has a 'better' image than any of the cars you mention. Just a different one.

You are starting to realise that the image thing only works if you stay within your personal views, group of friends, age group and area.
An X5 has the perfect image for some Chelsea suberbs but around my area most people would think you a complete ****.
The Impreza used to be the performace drivers choice, there was long waiting lists and year old cars sold for more than new. Now you can pick up new scoobs for less than a diesel Focus and good used Impreza's for £3500 so now they have fallen into Chav hands and are seen as a boy racers car by most non enthusiasts.
Skoda is another split brand for image, some still think of the Estelle and tell Skoda jokes, some like the understated image and others now view them as a quality brand.
The demise of MGRover has certainly dented the image of their products but out of all of them I think the ZT has managed to keep that sporty, quality image and for the price who can argue.

Cheers

Of course image is dependent on the perception of those making a judgement. It isn't something 'I've started to realise', in fact it's the crux of what I've been saying all along on this thread and others.

The general perception is that MG's are for losers, I accept though if you live in some down at heel area like the midlands this may not generally be the case. For everyone else it is. Likewise if you only drive around a few streets in Chelsea or Wilmslow an X5 probably garners respect.

If you can get past the image problem I agree they offer excellent value for money as I said at the top of the thread. 11-12K for a 2005 V8 Saloon that cost 28K 18 months ago is good value in anyones book.

The general perception? By who?

For someone who tries to portray intelligence you show yourself to be a bit narrow minded or perhaps you are just trying to be antagonistic.

Obviously there are good and bad areas all over the country, there are houses near to me that are valued around the £1million mark but without a 4X4 in sight, more Mercs, Bently’s, Jags etc.
And we have all read about the multiple murders, gang warfare and police no go areas in London E16. So I really wouldn't big up the south too much.
Do some of the Chelsea crowd really have it right?
Perhaps people up here have better taste and buy the better car instead of just buying what the neighbours have or what Clarkson says?

Cheers

I always think of the 'miglands' as 'down there' as I'm not a southerner so haven't been 'bigging up the south' at all.

I guess a lot of the assumptions we make about 'miglanders' is based on the fact they talk like retards.

The 'general perception' as you put it are the kind of comments I believe you'd get if you asked a cross section of people from across the country. IMO most people would peg MG/Rovers as cars owned by losers or some similar sentiment. In the past I believe Rover's image would have been as a premium purchase bought by someone of means. These days it means the exact opposite and has less cachet than a dose of the crabs.

I guess a lot of the assumptions we make about 'miglanders' is based on the fact they talk like retards.
That's "You" and not "We", there is no one else here making those assumptions.

Finally you have made a correct statement, you don't have any fact behind your other posts just your own opinions and thoughts. That's fine but as we know from your other posts on this bbs a lot of other members do not agree with your point of view.
As long as you speak for yourself that's fine but stop talking for the rest of the population.

Cheers

No I use we to refer to myself and the people I've talked to, seen interviewed and read about. 'Miglanders' sound stupid so we assume they are.

Back on topic if you go and do some reading or remember the comments we heard at the time of MGR's demise (from anyone other than those thickos at Longbridge who did themselves out of an easy life) the general perception was that MGR failed because it made crap cars (or as I put it, cars for losers). The image of their cars, rightly or wrongly, was in the toilet.

For what it's worth I've driven a 75 (not ZT-T) and thought it was quite an interesting car. Similarly the V6 ZS is a great drivers car like I said at the top of the thread. Doesn't stop the image being the lowest of the low though does it?

Quick Reply: MG ZT-T
