An S line quattro is 1430 kg unladen.
If it gets DSG, thats another 30kg.
Realistically, the S3 is going to be 1,500 kg.

Granted that doesn't change the fact that if you had the cash in hand you could get a scooby for a lot cheaper, and discounts on the audi will be sparse, but best wait until it's actually out before moaning about the price
People have done this over the Clio 197 saying why buy one for 16-17k when you can get a megane from a supermarket or broker for 14k. Now they are hitting online brokers at 13k people are now saying it's not that bad

Great lights, interior & styling but needs better wheels, bbs LM's, CH's or even RS6's. They look like low model (1.6 se) upgrade ones.
Still love the original S3's so with luck they will come down in price even more.

interesting looking car. Not entirely sure about the styling though.
There is no comparison between the build quality or residuals. Audi has it all the way.
Dealer wise - they're both sh1te. Audi are pretentious. Subaru are wannabe pretentious.
Still, a different type of car/owner.

He said "run scoobies run", it was in answer to that. Surely the people that will buy audis will continue to buy audis for the refinement and build and others will buy subarus for the cheapest thrill available.

I for one would much rather have the performance with the comfort and style of an Audi, and forfit some of the driving dynamics of a Subaru. But equally, there are many people that would rather pay less and have something a bit better to drive round back roads and not care about the rest of the car.

On the tuning note, it's already running 1.2bar / 17.5psi as standard to get the power (so I read) so on the stock turbo there might not be a huge amount puff left for a quick and easy remap, especially at the top end.

Possibly but people probably said that about the new RS4 - which has shocked a lot of the critics.
I would imagine a far sportier drive than the previous S3!!!

I remember reading an interview with the guy, and he said that there was limited scope to do what he wanted to because Audi's have there engine so far forward, so he intruduced more rear wheel drive to the 4wd system now being used on the RS4 and probably the new S3. All new models ie, all new A4, A3 etc, etc will be designed with there engines further back thus helping handling. Or at least that was what he was wanting to happen.

TBH i saw an article in EVO where they said a lot of performance cars are being ruined because they insist on testing them at the Ring.

AudiLover,
Don't take this the wrong way, as I'm all for promoting Audi's as the great cars they are (I've now got one), but have you actually driven any of the Audis? Do you own one?
I fear that if you did, your comments may reflect a more realistic view.
Personally, I love my S4 Avant. It's SOOOO much more powerful than both of the modded Scoobs I owned previously. However, I'm under no illusion that the car is built for a more "comfortable" driving experience. Yes, this can be tuned out with suspension mods, but standard, the Scoob is a slightly more focussed drive.
And I was almost fanatically blinded by my enthusiasm for the Impreza (aren't we all! ) but once you get to experience other marques, you see the Impreza for what it is: a pretty good engine, on a pretty-well sorted chassis (within reason!) on top of a horrendous car!! (If it was SO good, why does everybody have the high-performance models, rather than the regular ones?)
This enthusiasm is wholeheartedly encouraged, however, to gain any credibility, it should really be backed up with fact and personal experience
I think it was Diablo (on this very BBS) who reminded of that great quote - "Opinions are like ar$eholes - everybody's got one"
