I would dismiss anyone who turned up to an interview with flip-flops on as 'not taking their future employment seriously'
Fact is I take my future employment very seriously - I don't want to work for a company that can't see beyond what someone's wearing. Works perfectly for me!

Which is absolutely fine - but it's clearly an organisation where you'd be unahppy with me & I'd be unhappy with you - best save everyone's time and sort it out in the interview!

agreed, i think you're lucky to have got the job when you clearly didn't make an effort to dress for an interview. first impressions count and it takes a lot of effort to reverse/change those first impressions.
and it's easy to take the "well i don't want to work there if i can't wear flip flops" view but, in reality, your stuck up interviewer would probably be fine with it on a hot day after you'd got the job.
you have to make an effort at interviews.
difficult when you have no hair tho

But you're missing the point. I did make the effort - I made the effort to be me so neither of us would end up wasting each others time.
I think that makes perfect sense. Too many people turn up to interviews and try to be something they're not and end up being unhappy in their job.
If you're happy in a suit then fine, turn up in a suit - wouldn't work for me though.

where i work personality and "fitting in" we equally as important as having the knowledge and skills of the industry... there's 3 of us in the office so it's important we all get on...
i wore all black (skirt and jacket, not suit) to my interview... i only wore one pair of ear rings and i took my nose studs out... i wear whatever jewellery i like now, and reasonably "goth" clothes to work... at the end of the day we're not face to face with the public... the customers who phone/e-mail don't know (and probably don't care) what i look like, as long as we deliver what they want, when they want.

IMO you can get away with a skinhead fine depending on how you dress. Depending on what you wear and how you carry yourself can make you look either like a professional or a chav england supporter type.
If you go skinhead, always try to keep clean shaven, and the sideburns/neck trimmed straight, and go over the hair with the trimmers regularly or it starts to look scruffy. You need to make it look like you're not just taking the lazy option, it also helps if you're not a skinny type or a fat b*stard (like me).
Compare for example the images of Brad Pitt (ok he's had it shorter than in this pic but you get the idea).
Or Minty.

Doesn't bother me at all, But a lot of people say it makes you look like a thug! My hairline has gone higher but I don't feel the need to comb it forwards or shave it off. Just can't be bothered to worry about it.

I regularly shave my bonce, due to 'losing it a touch' In my work it is so much easier in so many respects Im Customer focused/facing ( front line engineer visiting peoples homes) I personally find it so much easier now ,after a days work, I literally dont have to pish about with gel or trying to get the punky spikes I used to have 'even' like i used to..do agree with the shaving of the face comment tho', if I leave mine more than a day, I look like Ive escaped from Parkhurst.

I have a very high hairline, ala classic male pattern baldness, i started at a grade 4 then 3 and so on until all i use is finecut on the clippers.. I earn close to your "suggested figure" and Iam customer facing. I cant do anything about my baldness, but i,d rather it was very short and neat, than semi long, and looking like ive got something to hide

full head of hair's cool.. just the 'Danny De Vito' look with long flowing locks in a pony tail at the back is not really 'cool'...

i shave my head bald every other day, its gone, no point in trying to keep it and i w**k in the smoke at a big respectable company. I wear a suit, no-one turns a blind eye to my hair cut.
It hasnt lost me any interviews.
and here's me ******* about at w**k the other day, that shine cost me a small fortune
