Darren any reason you wont travel to London? I know its a fair distance but the trains from Brighton are fairly quick as far as I know. In London you would be easily on 38k+ for that lot and down at Docklands a lot more than that.
Other than London the one place down on the South Coast I see a fair few opportunities crop up are Chichester so nice and local for you. However the salaries are reflected by the location although 30k should still be attainable in Chichester for that lot you have.

My god, what a stupid mistake!! I've changed it now.
Bob
The only reason I did not want to travel to London was just because of the travelling, oh and I am not a big fan of London, it's a bit cut throat. Lancing to London is about 1:20.
Is that true? , I honestly never expected London would pay that much for a role like mine. If I did work in London though, I'd get used to a salary like that and then I'd be stuck in London.
Chichester is an option. I'll have a scan of the job sites.

Kieran, are you saying that if you saw my CV you would consider it/ request an interview for a project/server support role?
I can't see how I am going to make any more money with desktops.

I work for a very large firm and most of our new staff come from somewhere like Morse, they have bods on salary and then supply them to us as and when required. If you were thinking about the big smoke, someone like that might be a good bet, you get a reasonable(ish) wage, possibly get exposure to more environments and platforms and get some good names on your CV.
If we recruit people, good Front Office support make a lot more than you're talking about. Get some actual trade floor experience and there is money to be made. We tend not to look so much at certificates but more at experience, someone who's done 6 months at bank xxxx and a year at bank yyyy will ALWAYS get the nod over someone with MCblahblah who has built an intranet in their flat and supports half a dozen servers in a small accountants office.
One thing some people find a problem in the really big firms is that jobs are very specific, if you're doing networks, you'll never look at a desktop, doing servers and typically will not look at networks. They might come from somewhere where they were doing everything and then don't like focussing on just one thing.
Good luck tho, looks like you're getting some good all round experience under your belt.

I did desktop support at one of the top 3 investment banks and that was VERY restricted. We weren't allowed to even take desktops out of the domain and add them back in, that was someone elses job! Roles at big companies can be very pidgeon holed.

Thanks for the comments guys,
I don't honestly feel I want to specialise in one area, I like having a broad range of skills. Jack of all trades, master of none springs to mine. I suppose that means avoid London really.

You dont need to aim at a small company, far from it.. It helps when solving problems if you can take a broader view of the problem, rather than just saying its a network fault and passing it on to other teams.. they tend to appreciate it if you tell them that your server is on the wrong VLAN / incorrectly configured, and you also tell them what port and or mac address its on.
