smaller you are easier it is...short stubby levers. but then you look like a gorila - i'd rather have long levers, good bod and weak than strong and short!

How much weight should you be lifting? Answer is, the weight that you can perform a perfect set to your target reps.
When I say perfect set, I mean a set of perfect reps, and this is where most people training with weights go wrong (this and too many sets, ie overtraining)
When doing, for example, a set of dumbell curls your body should not move at all and the only part of your arm that should move is from the elbow down. Shoulder down to elbow should always stay vertical.
Raise the weights slowly, 2-3 secs up, 3-4 down, to keep tension on the muscle longer.
Don not "lock out" the movement at the top, stop the weight 4-5 inches from your shoulder, pause a couple secs then lower slowly.

Never arch your back (do it sitting down on a bench with a back rest to stop this and never "jerk" the weight up.

I guarentee that using correct form you will have to reduce the weight, but you will be doing it properly. You can then increase the weight as you get stronger.

Thats it exactly, you'll achieve far greater physical results from performing a routine correctly, than trying to impress other people in the gym.

In this particular case, id say you should use weights, as it'll help you tone up as you lose weight, and look for a cutting diet on the net, there's a few out there that may suit you.

Has anyone on here pressed a Rottweiller?

I start with a couple of Jack Russels, three sets of ten up to the crucifix position for toning my deltoids; You can start with Yorkshires if you've not done it before. Then three sets of the bent over row with a couple of English Bull terriers. You can use staffs if you want.

I got quite fit and lost a bit of weight last summer. The secret, finding something I enjoyed, got a new mountain bike and started going on rides, good fun esapecially if you can get someone else along too.

I currently weight 15st 10 and hope to get down to below 15 for summer. Last year I weighed 16st 3 and got down to 15 st 1. Seem I've sneaked a half stone back on though (gotta love indian takeaways)

I reckon the reason behind this is I'm at uni and work 30+ hours part time as well. Finish uni in 5 weeks so hoping to lose the weight and keep it off this time as I do a lot of sitting about at the moment planning and doing uni work.

I can run for a while but it really is boring as hell so I'm pushing myself to run once a day for ten minutes at least at the moment.

P.S lifting your dogs up is not the same as curling a 40kg dumbell! I'm reasonably strong and can curl 20kg dumbells with good form.

I prefer piglets. So long as you don't feed them too much, they will grow in size and weight at the same rate as you grow in strength.

Hello.

I lost a bit of weight a couple of years ago from the point where I was a little bit over weight to the point of taking my shirt of at any opportunity.

Basically what I did was cut out 'obvious sh1te' from my diet. By this I mean coke, white bread, crisps and biscuits etc. Eat sensible amounts of decent food and have the will power to stick to it. I personally dont think it is important to calorie count as long as you're making a reasonable effort

What sports do you enjoy? Play/participate more regualarly and aim to improve. This will help you get fit which will help burn calories and also help you achieve a more positive lifestyl all around. i.e time spent playing football may have been time spent eating crisps and watching T.V etc. Going for the odd run/swim/weight session wont hurt either but at the end of the day it all comes down to self discipline and how much you want to lose it.

Best of luck.

Cheers,

Matt.

How are you supposed to know if youre doing it right then?

Keeping an eye on your serving sizes makes the difference between losing weight and gaining it.

Youve got to keep your calories below your maintenance calorie level to lose fat, which is going to be very hard without counting the calories.

Plus, just to add, you have to burn 3500 calories to lose 1lb of fat, and its generally accepted that you shouldnt lose more than 2lbs a week, so thats a 7000 calorie deficit you have to account for every week - which is why in my opinion its best to calorie count!

is it just me or does everyone that posts on here with a question about how to lose weight or get fit already know how to do it, but are just expecting someone to come up with a miracle answer for them...?!

edited to add that i didnt want this to seem condescending to anyone, fair play for wanting to get in shape...but there are no miracle methods...!!!
