Just been out down town, we went to buy Shannon some toys, she got herself a Princess Barbie, standing at the till paying and the woman working on the next till eyed Shannon up then looked at me and hubby like pooh, it's amazing how people jump straight to conclusions and you know they are thinking it was us who done it to her. Couldn't wait to get back home to be honest.

sorry to hear about your daughter, it must have been a nightmare for you.
just wondering if she could be sedated (given as medicine) rather than have full anaesthesia for removal of the stitches...
hope you get her drinking again - maybe let her have something you wouldn't normally let her have, fizzy drink etc....

She's drinking a bit more now but we can't keep asking her as she will go longer without having anything and keep saying no, so I just have to make a drink for her put it on the table and she will have some when she wants. She's letting me clean around her mouth now with cotton buds but won't let me try to clean up where the actual wounds are. I don't know if they will just sedate her or knock her out properly, they will decide on Friday, fingers crossed by then it isn't as painful for her and she will allow someone else to just do it with her sitting still. She hasn't ate much since it happened, mainly bread and she tried some chinese the other night but she's obviously not suffering from not wanting to eat as she's lively, I'm making sure she's drinking milk, and she has had some yoghurts and an ice lolly, which was nice and cool for her mouth.

children are very tough and eventually her thirst/hunger will overcome her fear of her mouth hurting.
Calpol is good if she is in pain...

Yeah, she's having Calprofen just now, which helps her get a good sleep at nights aswell. She keeps waking up tonight saying shes sore but she can't help lying on her mouth slightly.
She is drinking out of straws, she drinks out of them anyways, it's the only way she has her drinks, fussy little thing she is lol.

I truly believe that in such circumstances any serious injury to a baby/young child should be appropriately explored but this should always be the secondary outcome of the initial examination. In our case it seemed to the primary outcome.
As a parent this would seem to be the wrong set of priorities.
It is a shame that it is so easy to jump to such a conclusion

Fortunately the impact (sorry for the pun) has been felt far more by us than him

I agree, but the hospital knew that she had fallen and we got told they see this all the time, kids being brought in that have bitten through their lip or tongue etc and needed surgery, it was obvious her lip was bitten as you could see her teeth marks! It's when you go out and people jump straight to conclusions and judge the parents and when she is walking round with a lip like Mick Jagger, black and blue right round her chin, stitches and all bloody then thats when people seem to think that social services need to be called as the parents shouldn't have children! Really pees me off, thats why today I asked the woman at the till if she had a problem.
