Yup I'm in IT too. It's as common as being a dustman now-a-days ;-)

I've been in ANDY330's cossie. It is fast, in fact it's very fast.

I for one will pulling into that slow lane on the 'M-way' if the white beast appears in the mirror.

Well Im another one of the IT brigade. Spent the last 15 years driving company cars (diesels recently ), so when the company offers me the alternative of £500 per month and 45p a mile on business, my first thought was "Scoob". Ive always wanted one, so I thought Id do it while I can.

Im still out of pocket but dont really care. I appreciate how lucky I am, and dont know how people who have to pay a fortune of their own income can manage. They must really love their cars.

p.s. Im Married, no kids, biggish mortgage and yes I took out a big loan for the scoob and I love it.

You can sleep in your car!!! but you can't race your house!!
There you go accomodation sorted.
Had mine for six months then I was given a company car and could not afford to keep the scoob.
Have been regretting it eveyday since due to reading the BBS all day long!!

With great difficulty

57% of my wage last year went on the car, that doesn't leave much for the mortagage, food, etc. Don't drink, smoke, etc. Had hoped for a reasonable pay rise this year, but looks like I'll be taking home even less than last year (IT as well) so the car is kept on a month-to-month basis (only covered 164 miles this month )

Still, only another year until it is paid off

Andy,
It was only due to the way that your orignal post read that I felt I had to respond.

There WAS a very similar post a few months ago that went along the same lines - he WAS a total whining barsteward, so don't take any offence (none intended).

As for the "tw@t" remark and "people like me", you don't know me (and probably will never want to). I pride myself on being a very involved, laid-back member of this bbs. If anybody asks me a question, I will do my best to assist them. I only get ar$ey when people appear to be having a go - which is how your post read.

I hope this clears this up.

Not in IT but near it - Sales/Commercial Director for technology media company.

Wife, smallish motgage, several cars, season ticket for the train and a FYT attitude.

As I said on the first day of this post.

I got promoted at work and offered a company car. Back then they gave me a wadge of cash and said, go buy a car.

So off i popped and weighed up what was out there. At the time i was running a mental 350BHP RWD sapphire cossie (prob the reason andy has that sapphire is down to me showing him what one can do) so wanted something a little interesting. I couldnt stretch to a turbo with the wadge i was given so i bought my Sport instead.

One of the best decisions of my life.

My scoob is due to be replaced next week. My company was bought out and now i have to have a lease car, the list of cars i could have are pathetic so i chose to opt out of the car scheme and get a pay rise. I am buying my Sport next week from the company.

Now i am gonna be running my own car again i am going to get a turbo so if anyone wants a really top condition sport drop me a line. If you have an MY98 Turbo for sale drop me a line too. PX anyone. LOL

Scoobs are great cars, i cant think of anything close to them for the cost.

PS. I work in IT too.

I've done IT since I was at school 17 years ago. Since then college, Uni, work has all been about IT, now work as a technical project manager doing web solutions for a leading cable company. Declined the offer of a company motor (less hassle I know, as they sort out insurance, tax, servicing etc) and took a good cash allowance instead. Thats more or less covered the depreciation on my mcrae and also any servicing costs. I've never had to buy anything for the car as its totally reliable, only 1 new type in 3 years. Done about 30k miles in 3 years. And at the end of the day, I'm left with a car in my hand. If anything happens at work i.e. redundancy, I can walk away with a car and don't have to worry about catching the bus home !

Now the McRae is great, but its time to move on up. I'd be open to offers as well if anyone wants number 073 of 200 !

Well I don't earn loads of money atall I'm 28 and a mechanic got a 93WRX in april last year, I mean I've worked in a garage for 12 years driving anything up to 10 cars a day but nothing even came close to the subaru. Sold it a few months ago as I am looking for a newer one and can't wait.
