I just don't think it's fair to associate all horse owners as non "Twiggy" types, and to get offended when I say as such.
I did not intend to offend Steffi, I have spoke to her in the past and did consider her a friend.
I do not need it rammed down my throat that she is qualified in horses. Whether you are big or small does not matter in the horse world, whether you are qualified or not, same thing applies.
In this case, size does not matter

I should add, It goes both ways; How you type a post and also how you read and interpret another's post.

The text in a post can often be read in several different ways - a personal attack, a general attack, a simple objection to ones opinion or sarcasm.

Some users are totally unware that what they type might actually be deeply insulting to another user. It is up to the reader to evaluate if what they are typing is through ignorance of etiquette, out of humour (tounge in cheek/facetious/sarcasm) or actually with any intent (or just trolling).

Like there is two ways of telling someone to "F**K off". Such as when someone makes a joke at your expense you could tell them to "F**K off" as a harmless retort.
On the otherhand you could say it to someone who has made you angry and shout "F**k off" with intent and real anger.

On a bbs we have no body language or vocal tone. So a reader can only establish context and emotion though text and smilies. So if misused, it can lead to some interesting flame wars

The intention was not to ridulcule other people. My point was, not to judge those we do not know. My point was that there things about people we dont know from a bbs, but that people were insular enough to believe themselves higher in some form or another. I know people will believe what they want to believe and that its harmful in some peoples minds, but unless person to person knowledge is formed then, you believe what you are told to believe. I have no animosity towards anyone on here, and if they feel that way towards me, that's up to them. Everyone here has a wealth of knowledge, that may benefit someone else. My point is that, if you can help someone else, who cares? Whatever happened to helping those that cant help themselves? There are a lot of selfish gets on here, and its about time this board helped each other.

Smilies are the most underrated thing on BBSs. Like you say, phrasing is too easy to misinterpret, and more commonly I'd imagine, too easy to misphrase. I don't read my posts carefully before i click the button and i suspect most people don't. If there's a lesson here for us all it's use smilies and get some of this

 

People are allowed there opinion as,this is a public forum.Like any other democratic forum,one is likely to be fried in deep depths of criticism or,experience the heights of appreciation.
One should be prepared for it.

Of course having an opinion is allowed - it is what makes Snet - frustrating, amusing, enlightening, addictive and many other things.

My observation is that you are 'upset' because someone had exactly what you are asking for - an opinion. And you didn't like it. Indeed I simply think it was a misunderstanding of what was posted - and that is my opinion.

So yes - everyone can have an opinion and they will sometimes differ from yours. Whether that in any way takes away from your opinion is a matter of your choice.

As someone once said to me - if somebody says something that hurts you then it can only be because you agree with them. Something to think about

Of course you are allowed to have an opinion. And one should expect expect to be challenged about one's opinion, to back it up with some reasoned thought.

One question asked too little on SN is why someone believes what they do. Instead they launch into an attack, often against the person's character or upbringing rather than at the view held. Threads would be much more interesting if people actually had a debate about issues rather than school yard level name calling.

I just inadvertently deleted my last reply which was a fair few words.

In short, Steff I think you took 84of300's comments the wrong way, I am not trying to "stick up for her" but I do know that Leslie wouldn't in anyway try to slam someone for having an opinion.

On the horse note though, I am intrigued at what you are saying about them as I come from a very horsey background (been around horses since birth till a few years ago). In my opinion I don't think you can classify "horsey" types in an overall fashion as there are so many different factions of the community.
My mum (by the way she is also fully qualified if that helps ) turned away from the normal way of breaking a horse in and went the Monty Roberts way which is the way I learnt to break, school and ride horses - both those that we bought, rescued and bred......ah those were the days <starts daydreaming>
I liked nothing better than hanging around the field and stables in which we kept the horses, spending time with them grazing, going out on solo rides, schooling them in the makeshift arena we had and avoiding schoolwork.

I've got no idea what I was waffling on about as I have gone off on a tangent and I want to get my mum to scan in all the piccies of me with my horses now!

In the case of this thread, it's clear Steffiraf has completely missed the point. 84 *only* said that horsey women aren't all big. That doesn't take 400 years of experience in horse training/ instructing or whatever, to recognise, like Steffiraf suggested.

 

Not if you are elderly and at the NL party conference! You run the risk of being hustled out by some great fat arsed prat and being arrested under the "Prevention of Terrorism" act!

Seriously, if you have an opinion, just post it and be ready to squelch those who feel like having a go at you. They are usually taking what you said out of context to make it easy to criticise over some totally unimportant and footling point.
