MY98 Sti Type R... DIY style
Didn't increase boost but it feels 'jjjjjeeeeeeeeesssssuuuuuuuuuusssssssssssss' fast!
Been wanting to see this run at its full potential for a long time
Anything to do with the turbo timer? I never had the problem... But just a idea?
Under bonnet pics?
Was there much adjustment done to the map? Andy said there was more in it without a boost increase, but due to the clutch slip we backed it off... lol

Will get some uprated pics up soon... Moving house next week and packing stuff up, not even sure where my camera and laptop are!
Some adjustment was made on the map, makes so much difference with no clutch slippage..... absolutely awesome road car! Quite scary to think there is still more boost to come! Full credit to you fella
Want to sort the ARB's/droplinks next...
Quick update on battery drain....
The electrician found a sticking relay in the ignition, he has sorted the problem so fingers crossed... no more battery drain problems!!
Waiting a call from Zak @ Mocom re some more parts, and then another map tweak...
Next update probably in two/three weeks....

No real updates to be made at the moment, what with house moving, buying sofas etc, cash is a little light...
Despite that, I have ordered some Perrin goodies from TSL and will be fitted later this month - will update with description and pics when fitted.
I also have a fire extinguisher to fit, again pics will be added when it's done. The bracket is coming from dspeed - thanks v much fella!
Here's a few pics in it's new home...

Yes... that is a de-humidifier with a tube running outside to keep it in the right conditions. I am very ****
.
I've been keeping it in best possible condition still... Usually with the Blackfire range but having gone to see Matt Neame and left it behind, we set about cleaning it with Poorboys Black Hole glaze and and couple of layers of Poorboys Paste Wax. Some pics below.... came out fantastic and considering the BF wax is about 4 times more expensive, I can fully recommend the Poorboys. That said, when I've finished off my Poorboys wax I will probably head back to BF as I have loads to use
.
Snow Foam pre wash..

Clean arches

Clean engine bay..

One of the Phormula knock sensor.. fully recommend..

Turbo blanket..

Will update again in a couple of weeks when the new stuff is all on it..

Looking very pampered mate... good to see, A few slight changes I see under the bonnet, a new join in the FMIC pipe work, and heat wrapped the rest of the pipe work...
Keep up the good work Ross, look forward to meeting up again in a few months...

Another update... this time with chassis upgrades...
Supplied by TSL and fitted by Mocom the car now sports some Perrin goodies.
22mm front roll bar on heavy duty mounts,
25mm rear roll bar on heavy duty mounts,
Front and rear drop links for the above,
Positive steering response system, which is Perrins name for an ALK,
Sub frame lockdown kit.
Turn in is a lot sharper, a lot less body roll and car feels more stable when the foot goes down (felt like it was squirming a bit on high boost)...
I did take some pics during fitting with me phone but the quality is crap. So will get some pics up of the gear when I get a moment to take some new ones.
Thanks to TSL for supplying, Mocom for fitting and B0DSKI for arranging the GB.
Keeping my eye open for other GB's and also gauges....
Next to fit is the fire extinguisher to the passenger seat railing as supplied by Dspeed.

It wants another 10psi of boost before it goes on the rollers lol...
Keep up the good work mate... any pics yet?
I will probably put her on the rolling road next time there is a club event. Plan is to remap high boost setting to about 28psi to ere on the side of caution.
I have also ordered some Hardrace engine and gearbox mounts from Apex, which are currently on offer in the GB section.
Will keep you all posted

But your are perfecting it... It will be unbeatable once your finished mate...It really needed all the chassis upgrades to make full use of the power...
I just can't believe how much this car has had spent on it now... I'd love to own another similar spec'd Type R again one day...
Keep up the good work mate... We need plenty of pics, and I need my test drive...
Right, I need some opinions please folks...
I've had a slight knocking type sound from the rear on pull away and sometimes on direction change... At first I thought it was just the sound of the diff but it is more likely coming from some aspect of the suspension. I upgraded the ARBs and more importantly the drop links in case this was the problem, but I still get the knocking sound.
This has led me to believe that the problem is probably the top mounts, so what a good time to get some upgraded shocks at the same time!
If possible, please put forward opinions on what direction I should go in... I have had a few thoughts.
The first is for the AST sportline pack. Seems like a good package, will only lower circa 30mm, which is good as I don't want to be grinding my ar5se on the floor!
There is an Apex/BC GB going on for their coilovers which is very tempting.
Gaz is a more local company and another member on here had them fitted to replace Cusco coilvers and is very pleased.
Tein Monoflex? Bilstein coilvers?
Thought about standard shocks, but getting some Noltec top mounts and Eibach springs.
Edited to add KW variant 3 as an option...
Any suggestions put forward would be appreciated.
cheers all!

If you wanna still use it on road Rossi, I'd still stick away from coilovers...
I've had cuscos and avos on my UK Turbo, and they aint for our roads, plus the avos kept busting...
?
IMO id still go for H&R's. The drop is good without being too Low, the ride is perfect, no banging or anything?
I don't know how they'ed perform on track, but for fast road they'ed deffo be my choice along with a uprated damper
Anyway mate, free bttt for anyone else who might be able to help you...

Scoobyslammed - depends on the spring rates and how they are set up fella.
I have been doing a fair bit of research into possibles as I am not keen on a concrete hard setup (like on my old Pug and your old MY00). However, it seems I will probably get a more compliant ride with fully adjustable coilovers, matched with the correct springs than just harder lower springs.
That said, I am still contemplating the one-way AST setup like what is used on the T25. Either way, I'm still looking for the best set-up for what I want but I will almost certainly be getting the Noltec top mounts!
Most people in the know have been suggesting the KW Variant 3's for the money I am looking at.
Minty - It is an unknown brand backbox from ebay I believe. Chris (aka Scoobyslammed) may be able to give you the suppliers name. It is quite quiet actually, but has been welded onto the existing pipework as can be seen earlier in the thread (no sure on the page number - sorry mate).
Tbh, it is something I will look to replace at some point so you can buy it off me if you want

About time for an update....
I purchased some Defi link gauges from Scoobyclinic. Possibly the last set of white faced 52mm in the country!!
So I now have boost, oil temp and oil pressure located in a triple gauge pod from Nomad Racing on the dash. The V2 control unit has been mounted where the ashtray was.
I also purchased an Innovate Motorsports wideband kit from Mocom Racing to keep track of the AFR. This has been mounted in a windscreen corner pod.
I've also had some work done for the knocking at the rear. Turns out that the noise is just the diff plates when it takes up drive and is nothing to worry about.
As a result, I decided to add some more chassis upgrades as discussed in previous threads.
After much consideration, I decided to opt for the KW Variant 3 coilovers. These were chosen after discussions with Zak from Mocom and also recommended by Frayz who we all know well with his V7 STi. These were matched to Noltec Clubsport top mounts, Noltec rear control arms and Whiteline roll center adjusters.
As I'm not some cruiser on Sunset Boulevard or Miami South Beach, the car has only been lowered about 20mm. It is also running fairly soft settings to be compliant on English roads. Initial impression is that they are absolutely brilliant. Feedback is much improved, grip is unbelievable and ride comfort is still there. It feels so much more compliant, but without the crashing over bumps some may experience with coilovers.
The HardRace engine and gearbox mounts have also been fitted.
It wasn't all rosy though. Before the coilovers and other gear went on, it was noticed that one of the Perrin front drop links failed but TSL have been brilliant so far in finding a resolution. As I've got a fair few miles to do over the bank holiday, I didn't want to be driving round on broken links so have had Whiteline ones fitted for the moment.
One other problem occured, the torque caused from holding in fourth gear from 3k rpm on the higher boost setting is causing it to pop out of gear. This will be going back to Mocom for Zak to re-align so we can try more boost
. No major problem, but just another obstacle.
I haven't had the chance to take and upload any pictures yet, but will hopefully get the chance soon.

Sorry!! We're in a credit crunch and I haven't a never ending supply of cash to spend on it!
The better half also had her car clamped and towed so I had to pay £432 to get that back as she can't afford it. Problems with the flat are also costly which aren't helping either.
My dad has had a hip replacement and my mum is off work with depression/stress so kinda been pre-occupied helping them.
Spent a weekend polishing, sealing (4 coats) and waxing (another 4 coats) before tucking her away in the dehumidified garage a few weeks back.
I have brought some AP six pots and PF discs. Also some Godspeed 290mm grooved rear discs, Ferodo pads and Goodridge lines. Hopefully fit these before Xmas.
For the new year - plans for changing the fuel setup with anodised fittings, steel hoses, rails and pump. In addition, there are also plans for RCM open neck downpipe and Revolution exhaust. I'm just waiting on prices from some people.
Will update as when anything is done.
