help needed to find top cancer specialist...
I lost my dad and a 28y/o friend to cancer and it a charity i fully support.
What really gets me is to see kids suffering from it, seeing kids suffering is terrible but is just seems so unfair...
Matteeboy - well done for taking part/competing on the run old chap!
Whilst i doubt i would last the distance in current trim (or not as the case maybe) i would happily sponsor, are you still open for donations?

Paul - Very kind indeed - the sponsorship page is at Cancer Research UK 10k - Matt's 10k Running Page
As far as I know, it's still "live"
I temped at the BRI in Bristol sorting out blood samples year ago. The child cancer cases really brought a lump to my throat.
Sorry to hear about your Dad.

All went well with Mams OP last Thursday, results will be in next Thursday. She developed a nasty swelling last night and had to have it drained this morning, only for it to come back tonight. Have spent four and half hours at the hospital tonight with her, and eventually the Doctor got round to seeing her. All is sorted and fingers crossed for her for next week. Am off for a glass of wine now.
Hope everyone else is well

Great news Lesley. Everything crossed here too.
I get my results this Thursday. The worst thing is the waiting game as we all know. Will it, won`t it?
Whatever the outcome, I have used this thread as an inspiration, Sara, Thankyou.
Can I just thank everyone that has contributed to this thread, it proves that SNet can work together as a community. Long may it continue.

Got everything crossed for you Anthony,
Hope it goes ok for you and keep your chin up.
My Mam had her latest checkup last week and the consultant seemed happy, so she doesn't need to go back for 9 months.

We will be thinking of you Anthony, good luck with that. My full check is on the 3rd so far. It could well change they say though.
We all owe Sara a debt of gratitude, this thread has been such a help to us.

Fingers crossed for you Anth, and you too Les.
My Mam has to have another small op, 18th October, the Cancer is not in her lymph nodes and they are optomistic after this next op, it will be gone. She will still have her breast too. Tamoxifen (sp) and Radiotherapy, just a few zaps but no chemo, which she is greatly relieved about.
She is 72, looks about 52 and acts 22, bless her.

It's great news that it hasn't spread, that is such a relief.
Mam lost her boob, but the relief was when they said it hadn't spread.
If this is the end, which I pray it is, it's a small sacrifice.
She has been so strong through this, as your Mam has, and I really believe that helps.
My love to you both

Well I went for my embarassing camera check up on Wednesday. Since I had to drive myself I had to refuse the sedative that you usually get. Mrs Leslie cant drive!
The consultant was very good and said they would try it and if it was not possible to do it all I could go back for a barium enema.
He was so good at driving the camera and the nurse who was holding my hand was so soothing that it was all done successfully and I was able to watch the result on the screen while I was talking to the nurse about motorbikes and her husband's Harley! . The consultant was very happy and said everything is clear.
Big relief as you can imagine and he reckoned I should survive until the next check next summer
Hope all is going well with Anthony.

Keep it that way now..!!!
Thats fantastic news Leslie & 84. My wife has Crohns disease so she knows all about the barium enema and soforth.
I`m sorry I haven`t posted for a while, but I got my results. They were negative!!
Basically with me having a major operation, it is quite normal for the lymph nodes to increase in size. Mine are 1.5cm in diameter, which is not general rule of thumb. If they were over 2cm, then cancerous cells maybe present. Which would mean further tests etc.
She stated that she would look at the results again with the surgeon & discuss what to do next. Thats is more tests or routine checkup. That was over 2 weeks ago. Surely if there was a problem they would have contacted me by now.
So I look forward to my next checkup.

Sure is Leslie. Its great to hear that everyone is doing well. But spare a thought for those that aren`t.
I also gave all of my small change to The McMillan Organisation at last years NBO. This has already started for next year.

Went for my cysto check today, first one that they've let me go six months for and what a result..!! No sign of any return or dodgy growths, so it's all clear for another six months now....!!! Yippee..!!

I was told today my grandmother lost her fight with cancer today.
She called my dad telling him she couldn't breathe and could he come over. She lasted till he arrived and then passed away with him by her side.
She'd cleaned the house, done all the washing up and laundry as if she knew it was her time. She was sitting on the couch with a crucifix and lit candle by her side.
I am sad, but happy that she went in a peaceful way, she was in a lot of pain and it is an end to that.
I am flying back to the UK next week for the funeral.
