Leslie...chemo isnt an option at all, just radiotherapy if we are lucky.

the tumour cant be removed unless it is [b]completely 100% and they are not able to do it. their answar is that she has the best advise. i cant settle for that..........there MUST be someone out there that would have the expertise to do it, money isnt an option, its just finding someone, thats the problem
Get your Mum to try the radiotherapy, its no problem, just makes you tired really, worst thing are the daily trips to the hospital. But get her to give it a go. You have nothing to lose and it might focus her mind and give her something to hold on to.

Good luck.

gave my mum a hug on saturday when I was down there and was shocked with how much weight she had lost. She was having trouble keeping food down but could drink water so we got some energy drink mixed up for her that tastes just like water but makes a glass of water equivalent to half a bowl of pasta in energy terms. This was Torq Energy Drink and is made from entirely natural ingredients.

This seemed to give her a real boost yesterday energy wise and this in turn boosted her morale. As a result she had the energy to have an appetite (daft as that might sound) and ate two good plates of food yesterday. Heres hoping that more of the same and some of the prescription milkshakes will have a massive impact and at least give her some quality of life.

my mum has eaten really well since she was diagnosed. she eats tons of fruit and veg as well as being a smoothie monster

i think my mums weight loss id due to stress as well. we are trying to build her up and make her fat so she can weather whatever lies in store. we were told that the more weight my mum carries the better.

mum sorted through her wardrobe last week and gave me some stuff she didnt need. it was a bit morbid, but as my mum says, she may as well do it while she can. she is in having an op on her airway as we speak now. this will help her to breath a bit easier, fingers crossed

Hi Sara,

Sorry to read about what your mum is going through at the moment

I know exactly what you are going through, I lost my dad to Stomach cancer of the 8th Feb after only 12 weeks, unfortuanatley it happened very suddenly (Tumour burst) days before he was due to start his Chemo.
As we were unaware it was going to happen we were unable to have arranged anything extra specail for him, but luckily I had spent a lot of time with him since he was diagnosed on the 29th December last year.

All the best to you and your mum

SS - get your mum on the 'naughty' diet.. ice cream, cream, custard, chips, cake, cake and more cake,

My dad did this prior to his surgery, as he was going to have to have a stomach feeding tube after, and he put on quite a bit of weight in a short time!!

Hugs to you, and your mum

My Mum is losing loads of weight and desperately needs to intake calories/energy and nutrients - thinking these will keep it in check.
My dad has to have ensure milkshakes - 6 a day to help keep some weight on him, as he cannot handle many solids after his operation.

These can be prescribed by the GP - there is a company called Abbots who deliver them to our door once they have received the prescription. They contain nutrient, fibre, vitamins and concerntrated calories - make sure you get ensure plus - they are the ones with extra calories in..

They come in a whole range of flavours - and even neutral so if you don't want to drink them you can add it to soup etc.

There is also a neutral powder called Scandishake which you mix with liquids designed to help gain or maintain weight.

If you are under a hospital, ask to speak to the dietician. They have lots of tips etc and can give you samples of the above to try out.

Sara there are lots and lots of folks thinking about what your mum (and you!) are going through. Am sure fingers are being crossed throughout the UK for your Mum and everyone else in a similar situation, and from the posts and interest in your thread you are definitely not alone.

I've never met you, and probably never will, but here's a huge hug across the internet.

Sara - hope you get some good news shortly.

Things are okay with my mum at the moment having put on 1/2 stone in weight in the last week since I have been getting the ensure plus drinks in her and with better pain relief she has been able to eat normal meals too. At this rate she will be back to normal weight within a couple of weeks

All this has helped her to become a bit stronger and with an appointment at the hospital tomorrow to see whether Chemo is an option it might make it easier for them to try it.

we've had the worst week so far. its 10 days today and we still have no appointment for the results of the PET scan. i rang the hospital yesterday and eventually found out that all March clinics were now cancelled because of an Audit??!!!
i couldnt believe it!! i am still silently screaming.this is a local hospital and the same hospital that had an audit and lost all my daughters notes when she was seriousley ill in special baby care 5 years ago! mum was going to get an appointment for the second week of April. its already 2 months since my mum found out she had 6-9 months and i am watching her fade away in front of me. i got in touch with the Macmillon nurses and they managed to get us an appointment for next week. apparently the woman doing the appointments didnt know how ill my mum was no wonder so many people die from lung cancer if there are these sort of **** ups all the time.

on a lighter note i picked my mum up from her 2nd opp for cryosurgery and she looked a lot better than the last time. she now has 50% of her airway cleared , she was managing on only 20% and this was in Harefield

mum is still losing weight even tho she is on the Ensure Plus so i have to take her loads of cream cakes and stuff over the next week. the worst thing in all this is not knowing yet if her cancer has spread
i am glad to hear your mum is responding dynamix, thats great news

and i hope your treatment goes well Leslie
