Sara,

I really hope she improves so that you get that weekend at Champney's. My best wishes to you both as ever. Thanks for your good wishes too.

Sara,

Your mother should be able to get one on the NHS. When my wife was put on chemo, the first thing they did at Aberdeen hospital was point her in the direction of hair stylists who did wigs on the NHS. Ask at the hospital.

Having said that, she seldom wears it. She prefers head scarves.

we are entitled to a free synthetic wig on the NHS....YUK
mum wants real hair as it wont be so itchy
i found a website last night that allow NHS patients to have a reduced cost wig and can choose from hundreds of different styles but this was up north and no good to us. i cant find anything local.............i want to say i am tearing my hair out trying to find something

got my mums wig sorted yesterday

i gave mu mum a haircut with the clippers................she looked like someone out of Prisoner C Block H the wig is cool though, looks really good.

on a sadder note, mum is very unwell. her eyesight is failing bad and her right side isnt working very well. she also told me that she has had trouble swallowing for the last 10 days!! i cant believe she didnt tell anyone. her cancer nurse says it might be that her lung tumour has grown in size and is squashing her food pipe. she should have been halfway through chemo to shrink it but they found the brain tumurs a month ago so she never got the treatment. we have some big decisions to make when we go back to the hospital next week

yep - she was great all weekend apart from she thought she had a lot more enrgy than she really did so went for a walk up to the shops and had to have a sit down in there. Was wiped out for the rest of the day too.

We had arranged for a district nurse to come in every morning and refill her driver drip which went okay but as we are quite a rural area they did not have much experience of these on this round - so was a little hit and miss. Luckily all was well.

Apart from that it went perfect and had some great time together sitting chilling in the lovely weather, going to the garden centre and just chatting in general about life the universe and stuff.

We even spent some time talking about stuff that neither of us wanted to talk about such as wills and burial. She wants me to have rights to dictate treatment and the like should she not be well enough to make the decisions. This sounds like a good idea. (I am executor of her will anyway)

All in all it was superb .... until... the drive home and mum falling over in a petrol station avoiding a lorry reversing out and tripped up a step, whcked her head against the window and bounced to the floor. I was in the shop at the time and came out to see my mum with blood dripping down her face and cut and bruises all over. A tad worrying !

Thankfully almost all of that bruising has gone and she doesnt still look like she has done 12 rounds with Mike Tyson in a bad mood

Glad you got the wig business sorted Sara, but very sorry to hear about your mum's problems, hoipe they can sort it all for her. Please give her my best wishes.

Also glad you had a good time with your mum dynamix, but sorry to hear about her accident. My mum had a similar problem once when she fell over with a minor stroke. She got over it though and she is still going strong. Laughed at Sara's comment.

havnt updated on here for a while...................my mum got her results from her chest scan this week and the hospital are pleased with her radiotherapy treatment. i assume this means that the tumour has shrunk. she will get another brain scan in 6 weeks, but they are not very hopefull as the brain tumours are very deep. mum had to have her steroids increased to the max dose as she got very unwell when they tried to reduce them. i wouldnt recognise my own mum in the street if i passed her as the steroids have made her face and neck really swollen, and they think this is the reason why she has had trouble swallowing. we were told that some people react badly to these steroids and my mum is one of them..............but mum is happy and finally coming to terms with everything, which is a big improvement

Good news re the radiotherapy, Sara. Steroids are notorious for causing swelling - when my mum first went on them 5 years ago, she didn't look like the same person!

Let your mum know I am still thinking of her - I was wondering just yesterday how she was doing. I'm glad to hear she is happier - things like this are a huge shock and are a massive blow to all, but with time, things become clearer and I suppose, in a way, you come to terms with things.

Love and hugs to you both
xx

well this week my mum is feeling much better, the radiotherapy is wearing off so she has more energy. she has not handled the steroids too well, they have made her huge. its upsetting seeing my mum pyhsically change so much in just a few short weeks. i honestly wouldnt recognise her in the street. we are not sure how long it takes to lose the weight, but the steroids are being reduced very slowly so it will take some time yet.
i hope the rest of you guys are not doing too bad

Loads of choice in the Golders Green area Sara, lots of Female Hasidic Jews needing wigs, try a yell search, I don't know where you are in Herts but A1 or A10 to the A406 North Circ and Golders Green is just down the road.

Hope all is well, Great news about the tumour, lots of positive thinking and positive energy required

Cheers

Don't take a leaf out of PSL's book Sara, He deliberately tries to upset me by spelling my name the female way! Wasting his time of course.

another update....

we have come to a very sad stage of my mums cancer. mum was due to have some cryo surgery soon(the lung tumour is drilled through the middle to enable my mum to breath) as she is now struggling to breath but we have been told that as the cancer as gone to her brain she is unable to have anesthetic as its too dangerous. i dont think there is anywhere to go from here we were hoping that mum would be given the chance to decide herself if she wanted to risk surgery. she wants to as its better than being slowly suffocated
i have been watching my mum struggling to breath and i cant do it anymore

if anyone has any suggestions thhat would be a great help

i hope leslie and dynomix's mum are doing ok

Really sorry to hear of your mums problems now Sara, just hope she gets some relief from it somehow.

Glad to hear about your mum Dynamix.

I am halfway through the chemo now Sara, looking forward to the finish of all that though. It is having slightly more side effects but thats a small price to pay.

Please give your mum my best wishes Sara,

Les
