My GtirRB weighs 1205KG with fuel and me in it when it goes up the strip., only the interior removed.
As bog standard it weighed 1240kg (but had aircon when it shouldn't have, so say 1217kg with no aircon but same amount of fuel)
I've already put up a video of me beating a WR1, me with 80odd bhp less, so here's one of me beating a claimed 430bhp (380+50bhp nos) EVO on the same day

I'd have expected it to do low 12s even with his missed 4th gear change or a terminal of near 120mph, but even up to the 1/8th he wasn't performing like a 300bhp EVO, never miind a potential 430bhp one

at crail dragstrip a few years ago standard gtirs were doing approx 14.5 for the quarter but one guy had a seriously tuned one which did 12.1s.my standard uk my 99 wagon with 215bhp did 14.7 secs.there were several standard gtirs posting the same times no way 13.5 is a standard cars time .

6 years ago when I first bought my R and set it up it ran a 13.6 with just exhaust and filter at the pod, on standard boost. But the car needs to be cained 5k+ off the line with snap gear changes, most have some tlc which usually adds half a second, not to mention people get paranoid about their box. Then there's the fact whether the car is setup to run its standard bhp on correct fuel, its an old car after all.
To get a standard time and get everything perfect in perfect conditions on any car means your doing well.

Mine is hardly tuned at all, and only had 260ish bhp (0.9bar) when it ran a 12.4 at RotorStock2 last year.
The quoted standard 1/4 is about 13.9, which is my slowest ever 1/4 time with 246bhp and that included a bogged start, missed 3rd and then a slipping clutch in 3rd when I did find it.

Carl, yours is different, its the short ratio'd, lighten'd RB model, and I personally believe the RB model is and should be quicker (over the 1/4mile) than standard offical RB figures (14.4) suggest and the more common GTi-R RA (13.9secs) figures too. I know there is an extra gear change, but you've proved they are quicker, and I too would of liked to see it running totally standard back then. I haven't seen any mags test an RB light version press car, so am dubious of such quoted figures.

My brother used to have a Pulsar Gti-R.
The SR20DET is a very good engine. It has quad throttle bodies as standard and is very tuneable. A few chioce mods will easily see the car pushing 300 BHP. Ours was RR at 298BHP with a top mount cooler.
Agreed the brake are poor, they can be upgraded easily though, I think you can use 200sx (S14) brakes or the Tar-Ox 6pots.
Ours was timed with proper timing gear and clocked a 4.67 0-60MPH before the front mount cooler was fitted.
Getting into the 12's with a mildly tuned R is commonplace. Check out the OC for more details.
The G/Box isn't as bad as mis-informed people say it is, just bear in mind that it is a rather old vehicle now.
Handling can be sorted out with a good suspension kit.
RE: the Gti-R track potential, I follow the DDMC races at Croft Racing Circuit and have seen a Gti-R regulary finish in first place. Infact I beleive it won the championship last year and finished ahead of a 6R4.
They are light and have excellent pickup and a strong engine. Got to be one of the best hot hatches of the era! quite an accomplishment for a car bulit around 1991.
